FPL GW1 Drafts & Team Reveal | Surya & Srini

It’s been a busy few weeks for the two of us running the blog and overseeing the content on the website. We have done 90+ blogs during the pre-season and this is the last but yet one of the most exciting ones as we reveal our FPL GW1 drafts for the season. The two of us have contrasting styles of playing FPL and we hope our different styles and ideas behind our team selection help you in locking your FPL GW1 team for the 2022/23 Season.

FPL GW1 Draft – Srini

The plan is to cover the Top 5 teams defense at the back with all the Top 5 teams having relatively easy starts to the season. TAA and Cancelo pick themselves.
Ramsdale takes the gloves with very kind fixtures till GW8 and his bonus point potential.
With Cucurella signing likely happening, James would be nailed as RWB. With Everton, Leeds, Southampton, and Fulham in four out of those first seven games for Chelsea, there is surely a 15+ point haul in there for James which I don’t want to miss on.
Digne(vs BOU, EVE) is a two-game placeholder for Perisic who should be fully fit by GW3. Digne is also just 4.2% owned and a great Differential option against Bournemouth and Everton in the first 2 weeks.
In attack Salah, Haaland and Jesus pick themselves.
With Arsenal looking really good in pre-season, A double up with Martinelli makes sense.
Neto at 5.5 is a gift that is difficult to ignore considering their fixtures till GW5. I feel he is the best 5.5 midfielder in the game at the moment.
Diaz takes up the 8.0 million midfield slot considering the initial opening and could become Foden/Mount/Maddison considering the form they are in.

FPL GW1 Draft- Surya

After doing a lot of threemium drafts I somehow didn’t like the strategy as I felt two premiums enabled me to have a stable and well-balanced team structure.
It was between Raya and Sanchez for the GK slot. Raya is my 4.5 Million Goalkeeper, he did supremely well in terms of shot stopping and ball distribution which makes him potential for good bonus points. Brentford have a decent start to the season and the Bees defence is decent. Ramsdale was in my mind for a while and I strongly considered him but unfortunately couldn’t find the extra 0.5 Million for him.
Trent and Cancelo pick themselves. The two premium defenders are nailed and offer attacking and defensive returns. Cancelo is someone I’m really excited about this season and I feel he’ll better the 201 points haul he had last season.
Reece James was in and out of my drafts following Chelsea’s pre-season performance, with rumors of him playing RCB. But his performance against Udinese in the last friendly was enough for me to lock him in my team. He’s an elite FPL asset and has the potential to haul big frequently.
Having not wanted to double up on any defence I eventually doubled on Liverpool’s defence. Robbo was a great FPL asset to own towards the end of the last season and I expect him to be a good asset this time around as well. It was a Diaz vs Robbo third Liverpool spot debate and Robbo came ahead of Diaz for me.
Neco Williams rounds up my defence and is the best 4.0 Million defender. Although he didn’t get a goal/assist in pre-season for Forest, he looked really good and was involved very much in the attack. No brainer I would say.
Mo Salah, no explanation is needed.
Saka comes out as the best 8.0 Million midfielder to me at the moment. He’s guaranteed to start, potentially on penalties, and plays in attack for a team that’s in great form. Moreover, Jesus has crossed 74% in ownership which means to gain from the Arsenal attack you have to double up.
Neto and Bailey are two of the pre-season finds I would say. Having tracked every pre-season game this summer I can definitely say that these two had a great pre-season. Both of them play in attack as wingers for their team and offer insane value in FPL at just 5 and 5.5 Million.
Andreas Pereira completes my midfield and is on all set pieces, plays in attack, and is the best 4.5 Million midfielder
Seven pre-season goals, Jesus is one confident striker at the moment and he picks himself.
It was a 50/50 decision between Kane and Haaland. I ended up choosing Kane. This is one 50/50 call I would advice you to go with your gut.
Archer is my last pick at 4.5 Million. Doesn’t start for Villa but is highly rated and scored more pre-season goals than Ings and Watkins!

Final thoughts on my team: I have emphasized more on pre-season, squad balance, and structure more. I have also kept things simple to aim for a decent start. This season a lot of the picks are cheap and you can mostly build a squad with top six teams alone, so my advice would be not to go heavily differential.
