Most FPL Points Scored by Players in an FPL Gameweek | FPL History

FPL has been around for a long time and there are so many amazing memories with legends from the past and current superstars bagging us FPL managers a lot of FPL points. In this blog, we’ll be looking at the most FPL points scored by players in a gameweek (Single & Double).

Wayne Rooney- 32 points vs Burnley, Hull in 2009/10 season

On top of this list is one of the all-time greats, Wayne Rooney with 32 points in GW22 of the 2009/10 season. It was a Double Gameweek for Manchester United against Burnley and Hull City and United ended up winning 3-0 and 4-0 respectively. In the first game against Burnley, Rooney got a goal and assisted Berbatov for a goal to fetch 12 points.

He went on to score 4 goals in the second game against Hull to fetch 20 points(4 goals- 16 points, 3 bonus points, 2 points for minutes played, and -1 for a yellow card). Not surprisingly, both Hull and Burnley got relegated in that season, Rooney went on to win PFA Player of the Year.

It has been 12 years since this happened and the record still stands firm to date.

Fun Fact:

Triple Captain chip didn’t exist in that season. The Triple Captain chip was introduced only in 2015. If there was a Triple Captain chip in place during that time Rooney would have got a whopping 96 points in a Single Gameweek.

Harry Kane- 31 points, GW37, 2016/17 season (DGW)

Opponents: Man United:(H), Leicester(A) ~ GW37

In GW37 of the 2016/17 season, Kane went berserk and registered 4 goals, 1 assist(24 points) vs Leicester plus a goal against united for 7 points. He was Part of 896,000+ squads and was captained by just 26.2% of those owners and 5.5% of total FPL managers.

Some 15,194 managers made Kane their Triple Captain, representing just 6.1% of the 245,534 who had that chip in play. 

During the course of the season, Kane registered 33 bonus points, 224 total points, 9 double-digit hauls, 7.5 points/game across the season. Helped spurs for their best ever points tally of 86 points and 2nd position.

Fun Fact about FPL DGW37 from the 2016/17 season:

Alexis Sanchez was the other popular triple captain candidate that week as Arsenal had a double gameweek too, Sanchez ended up with 27 points(81 points if TC’ed).

A majority went with TC Sanchez because of the fact in the previous season(2015/16), Sanchez had a double gameweek in which he scored 25 points(75 points if TC’ed)!

Yaya Toure- 31 points, GW31, 2013/14 season (DGW)

Opponents: Fulham(H), Man United(A)

21 points against fulham, 10 against united in the DGW31 from the 2013/14 season.

In the 2013-14 season, Yaya Toure was a complete beast scoring 20 goals and having 9 assists. 6 of those were penalty goals and 4 were from freekicks. He made 36 appearances that season and helped Manchester City win their second title in 3 years. Toure finished the season as the 3rd highest goal scorer behind Daniel Sturridge (21 goals) and Luis Suarez ( 31 goals ).

He recorded 34 bonus points, 241 points total. finishing at a price of 10.6 Million in FPL. Yaya had just 18 goals in 3 seasons combined before this season.

Fun Fact from the DGW31 in the 2013/14 Season:

• This was also the week in which Chelsea beat Arsenal, 6-0. Liverpool had a double too with Suarez scoring a hatrick and bagging a assist in the first game vs Cardiff City(6-3), but blanked in the Second game with Liverpool winning 2-1 against Sunderland. Suarez ended up with 22 points in the end. What a gameweek it turned out to be.

Kevin De Bruyne- 30 points, GW36(DGW), 2021/22 season

Opponents- Newcastle(H), Wolves(A)

Kevin De Bruyne had a quite outing in the first game of the Double Gameweek with just an assist to fetch 6 points despite City winning 5-0. Little did we know it was the calm before the storm. He turned up the heat in the second game against Wolves with a hat trick inside the first 24 minutes. It is to be noted that all the three goals came up from his so called ‘Weaker left foot’. KDB went on to complete his rout with the 4th goal in the 60 minute. It was a massive swing in the KDB vs Salah Captaincy call with Salah returning with just 6 points(vs 60 KDB points) after being rested for a game. It was one of those weeks where our captaincy model also predicted to captain De Bruyne over Mo Salah.

Note- De Bruyne was owned by just 12% managers and Salah was owned by 58% managers during that week.

Fun Fact-

De Bruyne picked up a late yellow card in the 78th minute vs Wolves and also hit the post with a very late chance in the 89th minute. If that didn’t happen De Bruyne would have a got a record equaling 5th goal and the All Time FPL record with 36 FPL points in a Gameweek.

Mo Salah 29 points, GW31 2017/18 Season (SGW)

All of the above highest scores from a gameweek were a double gameweek and the enters Mo Salah. 29 Points in a single gameweek, which was a big blank due to FA Cup. Four goals and an assist against Watford at Anfield in a 5-0 victory(2017/18 season). A record IMO very hard to break in a single gameweek.

Salah ended the season with 303 points making him the only player to score more than 300 points in an FPL Season overtaking Suarez who scored 295 points in the 13/14 season, stay tuned Suarez makes an appearance below.

Jean-Philippe Mateta 29 points, GW34(DGW), 2023/24 season

Mateta broke the record books with a gigantic 29 point haul in the Double Gameweek 34 of the 2023/24 season with 4 goals, 1 assist across 2 games vs West Ham and Newcastle. He was a budget forward in the game prized at just 5.1 million during his haul. He was also only owned by 4.8% of the Total FPL managers making it a massive Differential haul.

In the first game, Mateta got 2 goals, 1 assist and 3 bonus in the 5-2 demolition of West Ham. In the second game vs Newcastle, Mateta got the both the goals and 3 bonus points in the 2-0 win. It was a popular week for Palace attackers. Along with Mateta’s 29 points, Eze(1 goal, 1 assist) and Olise(1 goal, 1 assist) also got 13 and 14 points respectively.

Matty Cash 29 points, GW28(DGW), 2021/22 Season

Matty Cash makes the list of highest FPL points recorded in a gameweek following a solid performance at both ends of the pitch. In the double gameweek 28 in the 2021/22 season, Cash played Leeds and Southampton and registered two Clean sheets, one goal, and an assist for a grand total of 29 points. A lot of managers went for Cash’s teammate Digne who missed the first game and just got the CS in the second game, proving to be a 22 points swing!

Frank Lampard 28 points(twice) vs Aston Villa, Derby(SGWs)

Lampard was an FPL Legend back in the days, scoring 28 points twice and both of the time it was just a single gameweek. Lampard was thrice the highest-scoring FPL player in a single season of FPL and five times the highest-scoring midfielder in a season.

Lampard first scored 28 points against Derby country in GW30 of the 2007/08 season. 20 points for four goals, three points for an assist, two points for minutes played, and 3 bonus points. Chelsea lost the CS in the 73rd minute and had they kept a CS he would have ended up with 29 points.

10+ years later Lampard managed Derby Country almost leading them to the Premier League before joining Chelsea as a manager. He’s currently managing Everton after being sacked as the Chelsea Manager.

The second time Lampard scored 28 points was against Aston Villa in a 7-1 victory. Scoring four goals and gaining an assist. Lampard got two penalties that game. It was not only the game that was stunning but the whole FPL season for Lampard, he ended up with 284 points from 22 goals and 14 assists.

Raheem Sterling 28 points, GW36(DGW), 2021/22 Season

Opponents- Newcastle(H), Wolves(A)

Sterling has always been a great pick in FPL, provided you know when to get him in. He is also capable of getting those double digit hauls and also the binary scores(0 and 1). There is no in between for Raheem Sterling. GW36 in 2021/22 season turned out to a unforgettable one(in the right way) for 2.4% owned FPL managers at that time. 2 goals(16 points) vs Newcastle and 1 goal, 1 assist(12 points) vs Wolves helped Sterling to reach his 50th Double Digit Haul.

Fun Fact-

2,0,2,3- These were last 4 GW scores from GW32-GW35 of Sterling before the monster 28 point haul in GW36. Sterling being typical Sterling got 23 points from the last 9 games before facing Wolves and Newcastle in GW36 where he went on to fetch is career best 28 FPL points.

Mo Salah 28 points, GW26, 2021/22 Season(DGW)

Mo Salah being himself makes a reappearance in the list with a 28 points haul, this time tho was from a double gameweek with games against Leeds and Norwich at Anfield. Salah scored once against Norwich and then got an assist and a brace in the second game totaling 28 points(10 points vs Norwich and 18 points vs Leeds)

Salah scored two penalties and assisted in the first 35 minutes of the game vs Leeds and the hopes amongst FPL managers that Rooney’s record was going to be broken by Salah but he didn’t score or assist in the second half but Mane scored a late brace to steal a bonus point from Salah as well. Had Salah got all three bonus he would have equaled his record of 29 points from the 2017/18 season.

John Arne Riise vs WBA, 27 points 2004-05 Season(SGW)

I get that all of you were expecting Trent Alexander Arnold but we run down the years to another Liverpool Legend, John Arne Riise who scored 2 goals, registered two assists, and kept a clean sheet in a 5-0 win over West Brom on Boxing day in 2004. The only other goal which did not involve Riise was a direct free kick from Gerrard.

“I don’t think I have ever played in a match where we have dominated so much against another Premier League side. I was almost possessed with the thought of scoring a hat-trick.”

Riise’s haul was not a one-off, during his time at Liverpool the LB scored 21 goals and made 30 assists. He scored six or more goals in three seasons at Liverpool.

Steve Watson 27 points vs Leeds 2003/04 Season(SGW)

Regarded as the only defender to score a hatrick in the premier league, although he started in midfield in the game against Leeds United. Watson scored a hatrick and took home the Cleansheet points too as he was playing out of position(OOP) defender playing as a midfielder. 18 points for three goals, 4 points for Clean sheet, 3 bonus points, and 2 appearance points, totaling a whopping 27 points from just one game.

The first goal Watson scored was assisted by Everton legend Duncan Ferguson, a certain Wayne Rooney came in as a substitute to replace Watson. The Leeds team that day featured Australian legend, Mark Viduka, Aaron Lennon, Jermaine Pennant. Leeds were relegated that season and only came back to the top flight in the 2020-21 season.

Throughout his career in the Premier League, Watson scored 26 goals and registered 22 assists.

John Stones, 27 points, GW19 2020/21 Season(DGW)

Stones had a memorable GW in the 2020/21 season scoring 27 points in DGW19 scoring two goals in the first game against crystal palace at home along with a Clean sheet equalling 21 points. In the second game, he kept a clean sheet for a six points return totaling 27 points in the GW. Fellow CB partner Dias too didn’t a bad week either scoring 18 points. Managers that had enough of the Pep roulette and doubled on Stones and Dias were rewarded quite handsomely.

Fun fact: This was the third time Stones scored a brace, he has now scored a brace in Champions league, World cup and Premier League.

Theo Walcott, 26 points vs Newcastle, GW20 2012/13 Season (SGW)

Walcott had some memorable moments during his time at Arsenal. One such incredible game he had for the gunners was the 7-3 win over Newcastle in which Walcott scored an hatrick and registered two assists for a total of 26 points(15 points for three goals + 6 points for two assists, + 3 bonus + 2 for minutes played).

Fun Fact:

Newcastle came back from a goal down thrice but eventually, the Gunners kept scoring to win the game 7-3.

Antonio, 26 points vs Norwich, GW35, 2019/20 Season (SGW)

One from the recent past, Michail Antonio famously put four past Norwich in GW35 of the 2019/20 FPL season recording 26 points(20 points for four goals, three points for CS + minutes played, three bonus). Infact, he was also our top differential pick prior to the GW, Snapshot of the same is added below with a link to the blog.

Fun Fact:

• That gameweek turned out to be a memorable week for a lot of managers who had Antonio and Sterling with Raheem Sterling also scoring a hatrick in a 5-0 win over Brighton, registering 21 points.
• Two years later he once again faced Norwich this time in a double gameweek but blanked vs Norwich to end the DGW with just 9 points(Scored in the first game of the double vs Palace for 7 points). Whereas fellow attacker Bowen scored a brace to end the DGW with a whopping 21 points.

Ben White, 26 points GW34, 2023/24 Season(DGW)

Ben White registered a massive 26 point haul in DGW34 with Arsenal fetching comfortable wins over Wolves(0-2) and Chelsea(5-0) keeping 2 clean sheets. When it looked like only 2 clean sheets, White playing at RB scored 2 goals at 52′ and 70′ vs Chelsea to fetch 3 bonus points and take home 20 points vs Chelsea.

White was only owned 20% of the FPL managers at that time while his compatriots Gabriel(28.7%) and Saliba(40.3%) were comparatively highly owned. They got 12 and 14 points respectively. Classic FPL!!

Ben White got a late yellow card in the second game else he would have got one more point to end up with 27 points!

Mane, 26 points GW26, 2021/22 Season(DGW)

Mane scored 26 points in the Double gameweek 26 of the 2021/22 FPL Season. He scored a goal in the first game against Norwich and in the second game vs Leeds, Mane scored twice and registered an assist as well finishing with 26 points, teammate Salah ended with 28 points.

Aguero, 26 points vs Chelsea, Newcastle 2015/16 Season GW34(DGW)

Ofcourse, everyone remembers the memorable moment of Aguero scoring five past Newcastle. But Aguero registered 25 points that game. However, in another double gameweek in the 2015/16 season, Aguero scored one more point, 26 points. Aguero scored a total of 4 goals, three goals against Chelsea in a 3-0 win and a goal against Newcastle in a 1-1 draw. This was one of the 11 hattricks Aguero scored in the PL, he went to score another hatrick against Chelsea in a 6-0 win in 2019.

GW34 of the 2015/16 season also saw the highest score recorded by a manager ever in the history of FPL with the team “Savage Strikers” scoring 226(-20) points on a bench boost. He had Aguero in the team and captained Sanchez who scored 25 points. Darmian missed the first game of the double but still managed to bag 17 points as well, one for the history books!

Martinelli, 26 points vs Everton(A), Leicester(H), 2022/23 Season, DGW25

Martinelli registered 26 points in FPL DGW25 of the 2022/23 season, he scored the only goal in the first game vs Leicester registering 10 points, and in the second game against Everton at home he scored two goals registering 16 points. In both the games, he also got 3 bonus points.

Martinelli’s 26-point haul was the highest score a player registered in a gameweek(Single and Double) during the 22/23 FPL season.

Cole Palmer, 26 points vs Everton(H), 2023/24 season, GW33

Cole Palmer registered a massive 26 point haul vs Everton scoring 4 goals helping Chelsea win 6-0. Palmer started the season as a 5.0 million midfielder and scored 20 goals, 10 assists from 28 appearances after having made his full debut only in GW7. He will surely go down as the one of the Best Budget Bargains in FPL History.

He was soon a popular asset after rising in price from 4.9 million in GW9 to 6.1 million by GW34. He did register 10 Double digit hauls from 24 games from GW7-GW33. He was also comfortably Top for Goal Involvements(30) and FPL Points(204) during this run. During a period from GW20-GW33, Palmer registered 7 Double Digit hauls from 12 games.

25 points in a FPL gameweek

A lot of players have recorded 25 points in a gameweek. Here are a few of them.

Dimitar Brebatov, 25 points, vs Blackburn, 2010/11 Season (SGW)

One of my favorite PL Stars, Berbatov scored five goals in a memorable 7-1 win over Blackburn Rovers in the 2010/11 season registering 25 FPL points(20 points for five goals + two points for minutes played and 3 bonus points).

Aguero vs Newcastle, 25 points, GW8, 2015/16 Season (SGW)

Aguero’s five goals vs Newcastle is one of the greatest Premier League moments in the history of the premier league. 20 minutes is all that it took for Aguero to score five goals and he was simply unstoppable that game. City infact were trailing 1-0 after Mitrovic(Wijnaldum assist) gave Newcastle the lead but a mad 20 minute period across either half saw City score six goals with Sergio scoring 5 of them!!!

Fun Fact:

Aguero had two 20+ hauls in the 2015/16 season with 25 points in GW8(SGW), 26 points in GW34(DGW). Aguero also missed the next five games after scoring five goals due to a hamstring injury.

Jermain Defoe – Spurs 9-1 Wigan, 22/11/2009 (SGW)

Defoe who was playing for Spurs then scored five goals in a 9-1 win over Wigan registering 25 points in FPL from that game. Defoe went to score many goals for various teams in the premier league and yet this one was just magical. That Spurs team had Gomes in goal, Crouch alongside Defoe and Lennon in midfield that day. Crouch scored one and assisted another whereas Lennon assisted three goals and scored one himself.

Alexis Sanchez vs WBA, Palace, GW34(DGW) 2015/16 Season

Sanchez scored 25 points in a double gameweek scoring two goals against West Brom(2-0 win) and one more against Palace in the second game(1-1 draw). The next season Sanchez undid himself in a 27 points hauls over a double gameweek again, which we saw at the beginning of the blog.

Wijnaldum 25 points vs Norwich City, 2015/16 Season GW8(SGW)

Another stellar individual performance from Wijnaldum in the 2015/16 season saw him score four goals in a famous 6-2 win over Norwich, interestingly this was the next game after a 6-1 loss to Man City in which Aguero scored five. Wijnaldum played that game too and decided to match Aguero the next game!

Wijnaldum scored 25 points that day with 20 points for four goals, three bonus, and two for minutes played equalling the 25 points haul of Aguero from the previous game.

James Maddison vs Watford, Chelsea- GW37 in 2021/22 season

Leicester had a Double Gameweek in GW37 against Watford and Chelsea which made Maddison a popular choice that week. In the first game against an already relegated Watford side, he got 1 goal, 2 assists to fetch 15 points. In the second game Leicester played a second string Chelsea side and got a goal in the 1-1 draw against them to fetch 10 points. It was a treat for Maddison owners towards the end of the season as Maddison got 4 goals, 3 assists, 46 FPL points in the last 4 games.

Fun Fact-

In the same week, Richarlison got 2 goals, 1 assist to fetch 19 points against Brentford and Crystal Palace which helped Everton stay in Premier League and also prompted a famous pitch invasion by Everton fans.

24 points in a FPL gameweek

A lot of players have recorded 24 points in a gameweek. Here are a few of them.

Cesc Fabregas 24 pointsvs Blackburn, GW8 2009/10 Season(SGW)

An all-time PL great, Fabregas registered an insane four assists in a single game, best thing was that it wasn’t FPL assists but legit PL assists, the Spanish midfielder also scored goal playing a part in five of the six goals Arsene Wenger’s men scored that day. He assisted Vermaelen, Robin Van Persie, Arshavin, and Walcott with lord Bendtner scoring too assisted by Ramsey. What a star-studded Arsenal lineup.

Fabregas later in GW22 of the season had a double and played against Bolton Wanderers twice, scoring two goals and an assist in 2-0 and 4-2 wins totaling 24 points. Same points but the glory of 24 points from a single gameweek with four assists is unmatched.

Trent Alexander Arnold 24 points vs Leicester GW19, 2019/20 Season (SGW)

One of Trent Alexander Arnold’s finest performances in a Liverpool jersey to date came against Leicester in which he was involved in all four goals and kept a CS too. Trent scored a goal and registered three more assists in a 4-0 win over the foxes. Trent assisted Firmino twice and then earned an assist for getting a penalty after his corner was handled by Soyancu, Milner scored the penalty after replacing Salah moments before the corner. Trent then scored the fourth and final goal of the game to seal the victory and a huge haul.

Fun Fact: A lot of FPL managers sold Trent in the last three gameweeks leading to GW19 and were punished big time. TAA ended the season with 210 FPL points and Liverpool won the league.

Suarez 24 points vs Norwich City (SGW)

Suarez lit up the premier league and FPL in the 2013/14 season scoring 295 points that season. One of the most memorable moments from that season was Suarez scoring four goals and assisting another in a 5-1 win over Norwich totaling 24 FPL points. Suarez loved playing Norwich scoring 12 goals and assisting three more in the six games he played vs them, Liverpool scored 21 goals in those six games meaning he was involved in 71.2% of the goals!

Bolasie, 24 points vs Sunderland, 2014/15 Season (sgw)

Bolasie scored a 11-minute hatrick and assisted a goal during the 2014/15 season in a 4-1 win over Sunderland. He was taken off in the 71 st minute bagging a CS point as well but Sunderland scored in the 90th-minute meaning had he stayed on the pitch for the full 90 minutes he would have lost a point, but who knows the extra 19 minutes could have got him another return or two!

The assist was for a Glen Murray goal and was just an FPL assist and not a PL assist as it was a deflected cross.

Conor Wickham scored the goal for Sunderland that day assisted by Patrick Van Aanholt who both went on to play for Palace later. Sunderland also had John O’Shea, Defoe, Lee Catermole in the starting 11. Palace had Zaha, Glen Murray, Joel Ward, Puncheon, Jediak, Speroni, and McArthur in their starting 11.

• Callum Wilson vs Brighton, Leeds- 3 goals, 1 assist in DGW36 of 2022/23 season
• Jack Grealish vs Liverpool- 2 goals, 3 assists in GW4 of 2020/21 season
• Son vs Southampton- 4 goals in GW2 of 2020/21 season
• Mason Mount vs Norwich- 3 goals, 1 assist in GW9 of 2021/22 season
• Mo Salah vs Manchester United- 3 goals, 1 assist in GW9 of 2021/22 season
• Gabriel Jesus vs Watford- 4 goals, 1 assist in GW34 of 2021/22 season

The highest-scoring goalkeeper in a single gameweek based on our research should be Gomes who scored 21 points.

Gomes 21 points vs WBA, WHU GW34, 2015/16 Season (DGW)

Gomes was an FPL legend and saved two penalties in one game against West Brom in GW34 of the 2015/16 season, both of them were taken by Sadio Berahino, Gomes rushed out of the box, and fouled Berahino to give away the first pen but eventually saved it. He also played in the second game which was a 3-1 loss to West Ham. Summing up both the games in the double gameweek, Gomes registered 21 points.

He has previously also saved two penalties in a game while playing for Spurs. It was a 3-1 loss to Sunderland with Sunderland’s Striker Bent who played for Spurs previously scored one penalty but missed two to Gomes. A certain Luka Modric played for Spurs in that game.

Jussi Jaaskelainen(for Bolton Wanderers against Blackburn Rovers) and Brad Friedel(For Blackburn rovers against Sheffield United) both also have previously saved two penalties and kept a CS but we cannot verify how many FPL points they registered in the game.
