Arsenal

Arsenal are probably one of the easier teams to predict when it comes to their GW1 starting lineup. Having signed Gabriel Jesus from City, a superb preseason means that he should go straight into the starting lineup for GW1. The 11 that started Arsenal’s 4-0 victory over Chelsea and Sevilla will almost certainly be identical to that which starts against Palace. Concerns over Takehiro Tomiyasu means that Ben White will most likely start at right back.

Arsenal GW1 Predicted formation:

  • 4-3-3

Arsenal GW1 Predicted lineup:

Ramsdale

White – Saliba – Gabriel – Zinchenko

Xhaka – Partey – Odegaard

Saka – Jesus – Martinelli

Aston Villa

Villa did most of their business early on in the summer. Having brought in centre-back Diego Carlos and central midfielder Boubacar Kamara, both of whom should go straight into the team, that will probably be the extent of Villa’s business for this season.

The most pressing matter for FPL managers is that of whether Leon Bailey £5M will start against Bournemouth. Having come on against Man United at half time, he scored and completely transformed the Villa team. Given how lackluster they were in the first 45, I’m going to predict he will start against Bournemouth. To further support this, he started and scored in their final pre-season friendly against Rennais. That being said, Villa have adopted the diamond formation in matches against weaker teams for the most part. That would in theory decrease the likelihood of Bailey starting so it really could go either way, such is the competition in that area of the pitch.

Aston Villa GW1 Predicted formation:

  • 4 diamond 2

Before going further, Do vote in this week’s FPL GW1 allaboutfpl captaincy poll. The same will be available in the captaincy analysis and metrics blog written by@AK_FPL1. The metrics had a 30/38 record last season. Stay tuned for the GW1 Captaincy metric to see who tops it.

The results and the captaincy metric blog will be published soon based on the votes.

Bournemouth

Many people’s picks to go down immediately after getting promoted, Bournemouth have done little in the way of transfer business to dissuade them from that belief.

Though Scott Parker deployed a back three predominantly last season, a major shortage of centre-backs means that they will have to start the season with a back 4. The front 6 will be the same as that which finished last season, even though Marcus Tavernier has just joined we predict it will be too early for him.

Brighton

Brighton’s key business has largely been in the way of outgoings. Yves Bissouma joined Tottenham earlier in the summer and Mark Cucurella is close to Chelsea Chelsea. Alexis MacAllister is expected to fill in where Bissouma played. If the situation with Cucurella has still not been resolved, Solly March may well have to play the left-wing back role.

As far as incomings go, Belgian striker Dennis Undav was brought in and, with speculation surrounding the future of Neal Maupay, Undav will probably start in place of him.

Brighton often switched between playing five and four at the back last season. Given the latter brought them more success, we can expect them to start with that.

Brighton GW1 Predicted formation

  • 3-4-1-2

Brighton GW1 Predicted lineup:

Sanchez

Lamptey – Webster – Dunk – Veltman – March

MacAllister – Caicedo,

Trossard

Undav – Welbeck

Brentford

The most notable point about Brentford is that they haven’t been able to retain Christian Eriksen. However, they probably won’t sweat his departure too much. Highly thought of midfielder Josh Dasilva wasn’t able to show his talent last season due to a combination of injuries and red cards but he is expected to kick on this season and is attracting attention from a few FPL managers.

Brentford have been crying out for a right back. They have satisfied this need by signing Aaron Hickey from Bologna. Though he played at left back for the most part, he’s expected to play on the opposite side this season given how effective Rico Henry has been on the other side. Besides this, they have signed Lazio’s first-choice keeper Thomas Strakosha but he isn’t expected to usurp Raya as Brentford’s number 1.

Brentford GW1 Predicted formation:

  • 4-3-3: Raya; Hickey, Jansson, Mee, Henry; Jensen, Norgaard, Janelt; Mbuemo, Toney, Wissa

Brentford GW1 Predicted lineup:

Raya

Hickey- Jansson – Mee – Henry

Norgaard – Janlet – Jensen

Mbeumo – Toney – Wissa

Chelsea

All has not been well at Chelsea. Following the recent 4-0 defeat to Arsenal, Thomas Tuchel made some pretty scathing comments about his players, hinting at more business being required. As it is, the departure list is greater than that of incomings at the moment. Antonio Rudiger, Romelu Lukaku and Andreas Christensen all left the club.

They have brought in defender Kalidou Koulibaly and forward Raheem Sterling quite make up for these losses. Though Tuchel has deployed a back 4 during the pre-season, the lack of success here may mean he reverts back to the three we’re more accustomed to. Ben Chilwell hasn’t played a huge amount of preseason due to his return from injury being relatively recent but he should go into the 11 for the fixture with Everton.

Chelsea GW1 Predicted formation:

  • 3-4-1-2

Chelsea GW1 Predicted lineup:

Mendy

Azpi – Thiago Silva – Koulibaily

James – Kante – Kovacic – Chilwell

Mount

Sterling – Havertz

Crystal Palace

The Eagles have made a couple of shrewd acquisitions this summer. The signing of exciting midfielder Cheick Doucoure should make up for the loss of Connor Gallagher who has gone back to Chelsea after his loan spell at Palace. In addition to this, American defender Chris Richards has joined Patrick Viera’s side from Bayern Munich but he probably starts as a backup to the centre backs, both of whom had successful seasons in 21/22.

With Michael Olise currently out injured, Schlupp may fill in for him temporarily.

Crystal Palace Predicted Formation

  • 4-3-3

Crystal Palace GW1 Predicted lineup:

Guaita

Clyne – Guehi – Anderson – Mitchell

Schlupp -Eze – Doucoure

Ayew – Edouard – Zaha

Everton

After staying up by the skin of their teeth last season, Everton have underwhelmed in the transfer window thus far. Having lost Richarlison to Tottenham, their only signings have been that of James Tarkowski on a free transfer along with Dwight McNeil.

The only point of interest for FPL managers is the £4.0M defender Nathan Paterson. Having joined from Rangers last season, he didn’t play a minute of first-team football. However, a poor outing from Seamus Coleman and injury keeping him out for the near future means that Paterson will start the season. The impression he has made in an impressive preseason campaign should also help his cause in this regard.

Though they opted for a back 4 for most of the previous campaign, the signing of Tarkowski suggests that Lampard may bring out the back three this time round, especially considering both Paterson and Mykolenko are quite attacking.

New signing Dwight McNeil should go straight in following a debut in which he displayed his quality.

DCL is injured, and Rondon is suspended so it should be Alli/Gray potentially playing up top with no senior strikers available for Everton.

Everton GW1 Predicted Formation

  • 3-4-2-1

Everton GW1 Predicted lineup

Pickford

Mina – Tarkowski – Godfrey

Patterson – Doucoure – Iwobi – Mykolenko

McNeil – Gordon

Gray

Fulham

After a championship campaign in which Fulham blitzed the league, the spine of the squad has remained largely the same, barring a couple of acquisitions. Its long been thought that Tim Ream isn’t Premier League quality. Fulham have been heavily linked with Isa Diop from West Ham to address this. If he signs, he will partner Tosin at centre back. However, given that deal isn’t yet complete, Ream will probably play at centre back initially. Jean Serri has also departed the club having been replaced by Palhinha, an exciting central midfielder who will sit in front of the defence alongside Harris Reed. Keeper Bernd Leno is expected to join from Arsenal so if that signing is completed in the coming days, he should make his debut against Liverpool.

The most interesting signing for FPL managers is that of Andreas Pereira from Man United. The £4.5M priced midfielder is expected to occupy the number 10 role with Neeskens Kebano and another new signing Manor Solomon either side of him.

Kebano would not usually be the first choice, but a knee injury to Harry Wilson, who would otherwise play there will see him on the sidelines for a while.

Fulham GW1 Predicted formation:

4-2-3-1

Fulham GW1 Predicted lineup:

Leno,

Tete – Tosin – Ream – Robinson

Palhinha – Reed

Decordova-Reid – Andreas – Kebano,

Mitrovic

Leeds United

The losses of Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips will undoubtedly be a blow to Leeds for the upcoming season. In an attempt to address this, they have brought in exciting attacking midfielder Luis Sinisterra and central midfielders Marco Roca and Tyler Adams. A shortage at right-back has also resulted in them buying Rasmus Kristensen from RB Salzburg.

As far as injuries are concerned, Junior Firpo and Stuart Dallas remain absent so Pascal Struijk will probably have to fill in at left-back. Given that Dan James is still suspended from his sending-off against Chelsea late last season, another new signing Brenden Aaronson will probably start in his position. Patrick Bamford is expected to start after his good showing against Cagiliri in the last friendly in which he scored a brace and got an assist.

Leeds Predicted GW1 formation:

  • 4-2-3-1

Leeds GW1 Predicted lineup:

 Meslier

Kristensen – Llorente – Koch – Struijk

Adams – Roca

Rodrigo – Aaronson- Harrison

Bamford

Leicester City

Leicester City are one of the easier teams to predict, purely because they have made no signings as of yet. Therefore, their starting team will be broadly the same as last season’s. The only talking point is that Kasper Schmeichel has moved to French club Nice. Danny Ward should start in goal with Iversen, another 4.0 Million goalkeeper from Leicester as the backup.

Brendan Rogers confirmed that Ricardo Pereira would be missing six months of the season due to an achilles injury that he has picked up. Therefore James Justin, himself injured for much of last season, will start at right back.

Despite the fact that Youri Tielemans has been linked with a move to Arsenal, the lack of any bid at the moment suggests that he will still start the season in a Leicester shirt.

Barnes will miss out for two weeks due to a small injury.

Leicester City GW1 Predicted formation:

  • 3-5-2

Leicester City GW1 Predicted lineup:

Ward

Amartey – Fofana – Evans

Castagne – Ndidi – Dewsbury-Hall – Maddison – Justin

Vardy – Daka

Liverpool

The reds are one of the easier teams to predict. They had a fairly settled back five and midfield three for the most part last season and there’s no reason to believe that won’t remain the case. As far as transfers go, it’s a matter of one in one out in the front three. Following the departure of Sadio Mane, Liverpool signed Darwin Nunez from Benfica. Though he didn’t start the Community Shield, an impressive display that included a goal and an assist when he came on would suggest that he is handed a start against Fulham. Luis Diaz will probably fill in the void left by Mane on the left of the front three.

Liverpool GW1 Predicted Formation

  • 4-3-3

Liverpool GW1 Predicted lineup:

Allison

Alexander Arnold – Van Dijk – Matip – Robertson

Henderson – Fabinho – Thiago

Salah – Nunez – Diaz

Manchester City

Manchester City have historically been one of the tougher sides to predict when it comes to the team they’ll put out. However, this may not be the case to the same extent for this season. The sails of Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus means that the squad won’t be as deep as it has previously been. Even though Julian Alvarez has signed for them, he’ll probably see little game time initially. It goes without saying that Erling Haaland will go straight into the team but besides him the City team to start the season won’t contain any newcomers.

With no RB coming in Kyle Walker should start at right back. Staying with the defense, concerns about the fitness of John Stones and Aymeric Laporte suggests that Nathan Ake may partner Ruben Dias against West Ham.

Man City GW1 Predicted formation

  • 4-2-3-1

Man City GW1 Predicted lineup:

Manchester United

It could be a quite different United team this season from the one we saw in the last campaign. They have a new man in the dugout in Erick Ten Hag. He has brought with him his former player Lesandro Martinez along with left-back Tyrone Malacia who will adopt a role as backup to Luke Shaw. After spending the second half of last season out on loan, Anthony Martial has had an impressive preseason after returning but he’s out with a minor injury. Christian Eriksen has also joined United on a free transfer and on his brief but eye-catching preseason showing, could also go straight into the 11.

Cristiano Ronaldo should start in place of Martial.

Man United GW1 Predicted formation:

  • 4-2-3-1

Newcastle United

there has been much excitement amongst Newcastle fans this summer following their takeover last season. As of yet though, the Magpies haven’t gone mad in the transfer market. Aside from Nick Pope from Burnley and Sven Botman from Lil, they haven’t made any signings but we can expect further business between now and the end of the transfer window. The aforementioned signings should go straight into the starting 11.

Other points of note are that the hamstring injury sustained by Jonjo Shelvey means that one of Sean Longstaff or Joe Willock may play in midfield. Following an impressive preseason campaign, and no signings in that area, Miguel Almiron will be on the right of the front 3 against Nottingham Forest on the opening day.

Newcastle GW1 Predicted formation:

  • 4-3-3

Newcastle Predicted lineup:

Pope

Trippier – Botman – Schar – Targett

Longstaff – Guimaraes – Joelinton

Almiron – Wilson – Saint Maximin

Nottingham Forest

Steve Cooper’s team for the upcoming season is an almost unrecognizable outfit to that which started the playoff final. Besides their back three, the vast majority of the starting lineup will be different to their promotion-winning team.

Dean Henderson was signed on loan from Manchester United so he will go in as the first-choice keeper.

Spence’s loan spell finishing and his subsequent move to Tottenham has meant that Forest signed Neco Williams to fill his shoes. On the other side, Harry Toffolo joined from Huddersfield and he will in all probability start at left back. Jack Colback, who was playing at left wingback for the latter end of last season is expected to slot into midfield for the start of the season alongside new signing Lewis O’Brien. Both Jessie Lingard and Taiwo Awoniyi should make their debuts from the start on the opening day.

Nottingham Forest GW1 Predicted formation:

  • 3-4-3

Nottingham Forest GW1 Predicted lineup:

Worrall – Cook – McKenna

Williams – O’Brien – Colback – Toffolo,

 Lingard – Johnson – Awoniyi

Southampton

The most pressing area in which Southampton needed to invest was goalkeeper. They have done so by bringing in Gavin Bazulu from Manchester City who is set to become their number one. They also signed highly thought of midfielder Romeo Lavia from City as well as Joe Aribo. Both of these can be expected to start on the opening day.

Injury to Roman Peraud and Tino Livramento means they are short at wingback. Mousa Djenepo has been playing there in preseason and can be expected to start there come the open day too. Though Stuart Armstrong has been starting up front in the preseason, he’ll probably go back on to the wing.

Southampton GW1 Predicted Formation

Spurs

Antonio Conte’s team have had a very productive transfer window so far. Signings of Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic, Spence, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet, and Fraser Forster have left them in a seemingly very strong position. The first two, in particular, are expected to be regular starters, with the others strengthening Tottenham’s depth significantly.

The wingbacks are of particular interest to FPL managers due to Antonio Conte’s sides typically being conducive to wingbacks doing well for attacking returns. The difficult thing is that, given that Conte has up to five options at his disposal, it’s anyone’s guess as to who will start there. At a best guess, Mat Doherty and Ivan Perisic, who started their final pre-season friendly, may get the nod at Southampton. Long term, Perisic is the almost definitely the first choice on the left but the right is a little more uncertain.

Spurs GW1 Predicted formation:

  • 3-4-3

Spurs Predicted lineup:

Dier – Romero – Lenglet

Royal – Bentancur – Hojbjerg – Perisic

Kulusevski – Kane – Son

West Ham

David Moyes’s side have made two signings thus far. Highly thought of striker Scamacca has been brought in from Sassuolo, along with defender Nayef Aguerd. Due to the latter being injured and the Scamacca signing being confirmed only recently, West Ham are the only outfit who we can expect to start the season with the exact same team they finished the last.

West Ham GW1 Predicted formation

Wolves

The most notable aspect of Wolves’ summer business comes via the acquisition of centre-back Nathan Collins from Burnley. Though Connor Coady has been a mainstay for Wolves since their promotion, the expectation amongst Wolves fans is that Collins will displace him in the side. Wolves also gave Joao Moutinho a new one-year contract so he can be expected to remain in the midfield.

In terms of availability, Nelson Semedo will be out for the opening fixture against Leeds so Jonny could fill in for him. Raul Jimenez also went off injured in their most recent friendly. The prognosis on Jimenez isn’t yet clear but it can be assumed that he’ll most likely be absent for the opening day.

Wolves GW1 Predicted formation:

  • 4-3-3

Wolves GW1 Predicted lineup:

Jonny – Kilman – Collins – AitNouri

Neves – Moutinho – Dendoncker

Podence – MGW( Morgan Gibbs White) – Neto

It should be said that many of these lineups may well have some alterations in them by the time GW1 comes around. After all, plenty can happen between now and then to impact certain the teams certain sides put out.
