But to own these players you have to have a structure to your team with good bench fodders/enablers in the form of 4.0 defenders/4.5 midfielders. FPL Pricing for this season has also made it difficult to find the 4.5 midfielders this season. Best £4.5 Million FPL Midfielders for the 2022/23 FPL Season

Andreas Pereira- Fulham

Pereira has moved to Fulham from Manchester United on a four-year contract which makes him an interesting FPL option. Pereira can slot in a 2-man midfield or can also play as a No.10 considering the attacking potential he has. He is also likely to be in set pieces and corners. 2021 & 2022 Combined, Pereira had 7 goals and 2 assists across 31 games for Flamengo. Fulham have already strengthened by the signing of Palhinha in midfield and are looking at a bunch of signings like Bailly(loan), and Leno in an attempt to stay in the league.

Pereira at Manchester United-

Pereira’s last season in FPL came in 2019/20 when he was at Manchester United where he managed 25 appearances(18 starts) in Premier League. During this time he got 1 goal, 3 assists, created 6 big chances, and averaged 1.5 shots/game.

Pereira pre-season form

• 2 starts and one sub appearance for Pereira in three pre- season games for Fulham.
• Seen taking up a CAM position behind Mitrovic which means good value in FPL terms.
• One assist from a set-piece. Likely to take corners for Fulham.

The best 4.5 midfielder & bench fodder in the game right now. Nailed to start, on set pieces and playing as CAM behind Mitrovic. You might even put Pereira in your starting 11 from GW8 when the fixtures are easy for Fulham. Fulham face Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Spurs in the first seven weeks. Josh Dasilva- Brentford

With Eriksen mostly leaving to Manchester United, this opens up a potential spot for Dasilva in the starting 11. For the non-Brentford fans, Dasilva might seem like a new name. But he has played a huge role in their promotion during the 2020/21 season. In the 30 appearances(26 starts) during the 2020/21 season, Dasilva got 5 goals, 4 assists, created 6 big chances, and averaged 1.2 shots/game before he suffered a hip injury in February 2021 which ruled him out for more than a year and made him miss most of the PL season. He might even be Brentford’s third-choice penalty taker after Toney and Mbeumo this season.

The 2019/20 Championship season was his breakthrough season for Brentford when he managed 10 goals, and 4 assists from 42 games(34 starts) which means a goal or assist every 3 games. He has always been considered as one of the brightest prospects before his injury. This might be the season where he shows the Premier League fans what he is capable of.

Dasilva Pre-season form:

• Played 5/5 games for Brentford in pre-season games.
• Scored one goal in 2-0 win vs Boreham Wood.

He surely has the potential and talent to nail down his spot. But, have a close eye on the pre-season friendlies of Brentford and Dasilva’s minutes. That should give you a good idea of whether he starts initially or not. Romeo Lavia- Southampton

Romeo Lavia completed his move from Manchester City to Southampton for a fee of around 10 million. He is just 18 and is a highly rated defensive midfielder. Lavia might not be a starter right away but one to keep an eye on as the season progresses. One thing for sure is that you can’t expect goals/assists from Lavia as he is a deep-lying defensive midfielder.

Verdict

Avoid at the moment. Might not be a regular starter with James Ward Prowse and Romeu regulars in a 2-man central midfield. One to have an eye if either of them gets injured/Romeu gets rotated.

Jack Colback- Nottingham Forest

Mainly a central midfielder, Colback played the majority of last season as LWB due to an injury to Forest’s main left-back. During last season, Colback started 36 games fetching 3 goals and 1 assist in the Championship. The former Newcastle and Sunderland player is 32 years old and might not be getting a similar amount of games at Premier League football this season.

Verdict on Colback and Cafu

He surely doesn’t start as full-back this season after the signings of Omar Richards(left) and Neco Williams(right). He along with Cafu(4.5) might get games then and there as a central midfielder if Forest doesn’t manage to sign any more players for that position. With better 4.5 midfielders like Pereira around he can be avoided at the moment.

Notes on other 4.5 FPL midfielders

Sean Longstaff

Difficult to get a spot in the midfield of Shelvey, Bruno, and Joelinton with Newcastle looking to add further depth there. Might get a few games in case of injuries.

Nakamba/Chukwuemka

Avoid at the moment. Luiz-Mcginn- Ramsey seems to be the first choice midfield three at the moment with Coutinho and Buendia also capable of playing as No.10. Injuries to any of the above could open up a spot for the promising youngster Chukwuemka who is even scouted by Barcelona.

Mendy

An option to consider if Leicester lose both Tielemans and Soumare this window and fail to sign any midfielders. If Ndidi is injured, he could well be in the scheme of things.
