2022/23 FPL Season: Key Dates, Information and Timeline

The 21st FPL season begins on the first weekend of August 2022 and in this blog, we’ll list down all the key dates related to the 2022/23 FPL season that is ahead of us which includes quite a few complications with the World Cup scheduled in the middle of the season. We already have the full timeline of Champions League, Europa League, Conference League and Carabao cup for the 2022/23 season with FA Cup fixture dates to be announced, but there shouldn’t be big changes in the FA Cup main rounds as it generally starts in the first weekend of the new yeat by when the Wolrd cup will be over.

Timeline of the 2022/23 FPL Season

16th June, 2022: Premier League Fixture Release
05th August, 2022: First gameweek weekend of the 2022/23 season. Friday night which will make an early FPL GW1 deadline with Arsenal vs Palace
18th August, 2022: UECL(Europa conference league) play-offs for West Ham, First leg
23th August, 2022: Carabao Cup second round, all clubs outside the ones qualified for European competitons will play.
25th August, 2022: UECL(Europa conference league) playoffs for West Ham, second leg
06th September, 2022: UCL matchday one begins
08th September, 2022: UEL and UECL matchday one begins
International Break after GW8, final one before the world cup
02th November, 2022: Final UCL group stage games begin
04th November, 2022: Final round of UEL and UECL group stage games
08th November, 2022: Carabao Cup third round
13th November, 2022: Premier League breaks for World Cup

Keynotes for the 2022/23 FPL Season

2022/23 Premier League Fixtures from FPL GW1 to GW8

International break after GW8
Midweek between GW2 and GW3 will be UECL qualifiers for West Ham
Midweek between GW3 and GW4 will be UECL qualifiers for West Ham and Carabao cup for teams not playing in Europe(13 teams)
Gameweek 5 is in the middle of the week between GW4 and GW6
All midweeks from GW6 till GW8 and GW9 till GW11 will have UCL/UEL/UECL
GW12 is in a midweek between GW11 and GW13
Midweek between GW13 and GW15 will UCL/UEL/UECL
Midweek between GW15 and GW16 will be Carabao cup third round
PL goes on a 44-day break after GW16 for World Cup

2022 FIFA World Cup and the implications it has on FPL 2022/23 season

November 13th: Premier League goes on break
November 21st: World Cup starts
December 2nd: End of the group stages
December 3rd: Round of 16 begins
December 6th: Round of 16 ends
December 9th&10th: Four Quarterfinal games
December 13th & 14th: Semifinals
December 17th: 3rd place game
December 18th: World Cup finals
December 20th/21st: Carabao cup fourth round(Return of English club football)
December 26: Premier League resumes

Big profile players including Salah, Haaland wouldn’t be going to the world cup which will give them a nice break during the middle of the season.

2022-23 UCL Final

The final will be played after the premier league season ends. The finals is scheduled to happen in Istanbul on June 10th.

Two premier league teams will play in the 2022/23 UCL season: Arsenal and Man United

The two-legged semifinal ties will be played:

2022-23 UEL Final

The UEL final will be played after the PL season ends. Hungary is set to host the game on May 31st, 2023.

Conference League

UECL implications on the 2022/23 FPL Season

West Ham are the only team to play UECL during the 2022/23 FPL season. If they lose the playoffs then there will be no English team in the second edition of UECL.

6 October 2022: Matchday 3
13 October 2022: Matchday 4
27 October 2022: Matchday 5

Knockout stages

16 & 23 February 2023: Round of 32
9 & 16 March 2023: Round of 16
13 & 20 April 2023: Quarter-finals
11 & 18 May 2023: Semi-finals

The final is scheduled to be played on 7th June 2023 in Prague.

2022-23 Carabao Cup Schedule

The league cup also known as the carabao cup is scheduled to be played from August till February, 2023. Here’s how the rounds will be played this time to accommodate the WorldCup break.

Round One – 10 August, 2022
Round Two – 24 August, 2022
Round Three – 9 November, 2022
Round Four – 21 December, 2022
Quarter-Final – 11 January, 2023
Semi-Final First Leg – 25 January, 2023
Semi-Final Second Leg – 1 February, 2023
Final – 26 February, 2023

FA Cup

The FA Schedule has still not been announced but there shouldn’t be huge shake ups from the past season’s as the main part of the FA Cup starts only in January. Here’s how it happened last season!
