FPL History: Highest Scoring FPL Forwards Each Year Since The First FPL Season In 2002/03

Let’s take a trip down the memory lane, and look at FPL’s highest-scoring FPL forwards since the game started in 2002/03. The list contains some GOATS and Legends, like Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, Didier Drogba, Wayne Rooney, Harry Kane, Sergio Kun Aguero, and some surprises which emerged in certain seasons like Nicolas Anelka, Daniel Sturridge.

Highest scoring FPL forwards in a single FPL season since 2002/03 (season wise):

2002/2003(271 Points), 2003/2004(242 Points), 2004/2005(231 Points), 2005/2006(239 Points) – Thierry Henry

Thierry Henry, The Man, the Myth, The Legend was on top of the list for highest scoring FPL forwards in the game for 4 straight seasons! The Frenchman was one of the greatest strikers, if not the greatest striker in the history of football. He was for sure an FPL treasure. He has 175 PL goals in 258 PL appearances. During the period he won the Golden Boot thrice (03-04,04-05 and 05-06), and was the Player of the Season twice (04-05 and 05-06). He also holds the record for most assists in a single PL season. He was an integral part of the Arsenal’s dominance and success in the early 2000s. Let’s take a closer look at each of these seasons:

In the first season of FPL, Henry scored 24 goals, averaging 0.65 goals per match, at the same time assisting 20 goals. He holds the record for most assists provided in a single Premier League season, which was equaled by none other than Kevin De Bruyne in 2019/2020 season. In his next season, the number of assists dried up, however he managed to score 30 goals, with a stellar 0.81 goals per match! This was also Arsenal’s invincible season, in which they won the Premier League without a single defeat. (26W, 12D)

In 2004/05, he scored 25, assisted 14, which helped Arsenal finish 2nd and in 2005/06, he scored 27 goals in 32 appearances, averaging 0.84 goals per match, and had 8 assists.

2006/2007(184 points) – Wayne Rooney

Wayne Rooney scored 184 points to finish the season as highest scoring FPL forward in 2006/07 season

Although, Didier Drogba won the Golden Boot in 2006/07 season, scoring 20 goals, the Red Devil scored 14 goals and assisted 11, helping him reach the podium among FPL forwards. Drogba had only 4 assists, and ended the season on 170 points. Rooney averaged 0.40 goals per match. Manchester United’s performance was breathtaking, with each player chipping in, including Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored 17 goals and scored the highest FPL points (244 points) that season as a midfielder.

2007/2008(200 points) – Emmanuel Adebayor

Emmanuel Adebayor surprised the league and FPL world by scoring 200 points.

Adebayor scored 24 goals, and 4 assists in the 2007/2008 season, making him the highest scoring forward with 200 points. He helped Arsenal finish 3rd in the league. Just behind him in the top scoring forward list were Fernando Torres (193 points) and Santa Cruz(182 points). Adebayor’s 24 goals was bettered by none other than Ronaldo (MID), who scored 31 goals and won the Golden Boot. Overall this season was a low scoring one for the forwards, where Adebayor just managed to hit that 200 points mark.

2008/2009(179 points) – Nicolas Anelka

The 2008/09 season was indeed an underwhelming one for FPL forwards. The season witnessed fewer goals as compared to other seasons. Therefore, Anelka was able to win the Golden Boot by scoring just 19 goals, 1 more than the United legend, Cristiano Ronaldo. He averaged 0.51 goals per match. He had 2 assists to add to 2008/09 campaign which made him reach the top for FPL forwards that season.

2009/2010(242 points) – Didier Drogba

G.O.A.T.

Drogba, arguably one of the GOATs in football as well as FPL, scored 29 goals and assisted 10, averaging an astonishing 0.91 goals per match. He won the Golden Boot, scoring 3 more than Wayne Rooney (224 points) in that season, thereby helping Chelsea win the Premier League. Chelsea were the first Premier League team ever to score 100+ goals in a single season, scoring 103 goals, with contributions from all parts of their team.

2010/2011(185 points) – Carlos Tevez

Carlos Tevez had an amazing season

Tevez (185 points) and Dimitar Berbatov (176 points) were level on goals scored, and shared the Golden Boot, scoring 20 goals each. Tevez ( 6 assists) had 2 more assists than Berbatov (4 assists) making him the highest scoring FPL forward in 2010/2011 season.

2011/2012(269 points), 2012/2013(262 points) – Robin Van Persie

For Arsenal – 269 points For Manchester United – 262 points

RVP, one of the deadliest finishers of the world, played with one objective in mind- to score goals. He was the highest scoring FPL forward for 2 seasons straight, first one at Arsenal, and second one at Manchester United. He won the Golden Boot in both the seasons. For Arsenal, he scored 30 goals, averaging 0.79 goals per match, and had 13 assists (FPL). With such high numbers, he was able to fetch 45 bonus points for his owners.

To quench his ambition to win the title, he joined the Red Devils in the next season. During his time at United, he scored 24 goals and had 15 assists (FPL), and earned 49 bonus points, taking his total to 262 points for the season, thereby helping United win the League. The next top scoring player in the game was Luis Suarez (212 points), who was more than 50 points behind RVP!

It is right to say, that Robin Van Persie was truly a blessing for FPL managers.

2013/2014(295 points) – Luis Suarez

In just 33 appearances, Suarez scored 31 goals and 12 assists ( 15 FPL assists), averaging an outstanding 0.94 goals per match! Needless to say that he won the Golden Boot, and the Player of the Season Award. He got 40 bonus points throughout the course of the season, taking his overall tally to 295 points for the season. He was the first FPL player to almost hit that 300 points mark, which was later achieved by Mo Salah. Suarez was able to achieve this in just 33 appearances. He holds the record for highest points per game, having 8.9 pts/game!

Behind him was his striker partner, Daniel Sturridge, who scored 21 goals in just 29 appearances. Sturridge provided an amazing value, and he was the biggest surprise of the season. Liverpool missed out on the title by just 2 points, below Manchester City.

2014/2015(216 points) – Sergio Aguero

Kun Aguero had a wonderful season as usual

Sergio Kun Aguero had a berserk PL career. He stands fourth in the PL All Time Top Scorers List with 184 goals, in just 275 appearances. He has been crowned the PL champions 5 times in his career. Aguero was a significant part of Manchester City’s dominance over the past decade.

In 33 appearances, Kun Aguero scored 26 goals and 8 assists (10 FPL assists), averaging 0.79 goals per match. He had 1.28 G/A per 90 minutes, and 7.68 points/90 minutes. He won the Golden Boot, second to him was Harry Kane (191 points) at 21 goals. Aguero ended the season at premium price of £12.9 and started the next at £13.0, but still found a place in most managers’ team. Even with Aguero’s scintillating performance, Manchester City finished 2nd to Chelsea in the league.

2015/2016(211 points) – Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane

Jamie Vardy and Leicester City took the whole world aback by doing, what still seems impossible. After fighting to stay in the PL in 2014/15 season, Leicester stunned each and every football fan, the next season. They won the Premier League, with just 3 defeats and 81 points. The unbeknownst players like Mahrez and Vardy emerged that season. Jamie Vardy was priced at £6.0 and ended at £7.4. He provided unreal value, scoring 24 goals 8 assists(FPL). Vardy earned 30 bonus points to take his total at 211 points. He averaged 5.86 FPL points per match and provided immense value(28.51 points per £1).

Harry Kane, another legend, scored one goal extra to steal the Golden Boot from Vardy, scoring 25 goals. They ended the season at equal FPL points(211), as Kane managed only 3 assists. The Strike force template for the most part of the season consisted of a budget striker (Vardy) and a premium one (Kane).

2016/2017(224 points), 2017/2018(217 points) – Harry Kane

Harry Kane, arguably one of the greatest strikers in the world right now, is having an amazing PL career, having scored 166 PL goals in 245 PL appearances. He was the stand out player in the Spurs team, and was by far their most important player. In his career, till now, he has already won 3 Golden Boots. He is also climbing places in the all time PL top scorers list.

During this period, Harry won the Golden Boot in 2016/2017 season, scoring 29 goals, in just 30 appearances averaging 0.91 goals per match! He had 7 assists that season, and earned 33 bonus points. His previous year’s performance, resulted £11.0 and he still rose to £11.9.

In 2020/2021 season he won the Golden Boot as well as the Playmaker Award with 23 goals and 14 assists, making him the reach the top for FPL forwards in that season. He did all this in just 35 appearances. With such crazy numbers, he was able to get 40 bonus points. Thanks to an underwhelming performance by his standards, in 2019/2020 season, he was priced at £10.5, and rose by £1.4. He averaged 6.4 points per match in 2020/21 season.

2018/2019(205 points) – Pierre Emerick Aubameyang

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, the Arsenal star joined the club from Dortmund in 2018. In his first full season, he won the highest scorer in the league, and a beacon of hope for Arsenal’s resurgence.

Aubameyang had an astounding season, scored 22 and assisted 5. He was able to scavenge 32 bonus points over the season. Aguero(201 points), scored 21 goals, and had 8 assists in just 33 appearances, missing out due to injury. He shared the Golden Boot with the Liverpool duo, Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane. Sergio Aguero, who also had a wonderful season was just behind them at 21 goals.

2019/2020(210 points) – Jamie Vardy

Jamie Vardy won the Golden Boot this year, scoring 23 goals in 35 appearances, and had 5 assists. He helped finish Leicester finish 5th that season. He fetched 34 bonus points for his owners. Another phenomenal performance was seen by Danny Ings(198 points) of Southampton who scored 22 goals, and just missed out by 1 goal on winning the Golden Boot. Aubameyang also finished the season at 22 goals, scoring 205 points. Overall, this season had a lot of forward options, with many attractive mid-priced strikers emerging from promoted teams.

2020-21(242 Points), 2021-22(192 Points)-Harry Kane

2020-21 Season ~ Harry Kane 242 points

Kane registered 23 goals and registered 14 assists totaling 242 points in the season falling just two points behind Bruno who ended the season as the highest-scoring player. Kane enjoyed a stunning partnership with teammate Son making it a remarkable season for the duo in an otherwise forgetful season for Spurs.

2021/22 was a forgettable season for FPL forwards in general with not many of them clicking. Since 2012, Kane’s 192 points was the least by the highest scoring FPL forward in a season. Kane got 17 goals, 11 FPL assists and 23 bonus points. Ronaldo finished second with 159 points while the budget pick Pukki who finished the at just 6.1 Million finished third with 142 points.

2022/2023(272 points) – Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland was not only the Highest scoring Forward, but also the Highest scoring player in the 2022/23 season with 272 points. Haaland broke most of the records scoring getting 36 goals, 9 assists in the league. These numbers were almost unheard of. Golden Boot, Player of the season, Young Player of the season- Erling Haaland deservedly swept home most of the awards. Haaland got 11 Double Digit hauls and 40 bonus points as well.

Kane finished 2nd among forwards and also 2nd overall with 263 points with the help of 30 goals, 9 assists. Toney who started the season at just 7.0 million finished as the 3rd highest scoring forward with 182 points courtesy 20 goals, 4 assists.
