Best FPL Budget Enablers for the 2022-23 FPL Season

With FPL underpricing most premium assets, finding budget enablers to fill the gaps is more crucial than ever. In this article, @FPLPAZ finds the Best FPL budget enablers to allow you to fit in those premium assets to start the 22-23 Season.

Best FPL Budget Enablers

Budget Enablers Defenders (£4.5 or below)

Takehiro Tomiyasu, Arsenal. £4.5

Budget FPL Enablers Defenders ~ Takehiro Tomiyasu

Tomiyasu is the highest owned £4.5 defender (17.8%) for a good reason. You simply do not get a nailed defender for a top-six side at this price. Before his injury, Tomiyasu was instrumental to Arsenal’s defensive prowess. From GW4-18, Arsenal ranked 2^nd in Clean Sheets, T-4^th fewest Goals Conceded, and 5^th fewest Big Chances Conceded.

Tomiyasu’s well-documented lack of attacking threat is a worry, with only one attacking return in 21 appearances. However, before his injury (GW4-18), Tomiyasu showed some ability to go forward, ranking 2^nd in Chances Created, 1^st in Final Third passes, and Final Third Touches amongst £4.5 defenders. With the 5^th easiest schedule for defenses in the first eight GWs, nailed in a top-six side, and showing good attacking threat at his price point, Tomiyasu is one of the best budget-enabling defenders to start the season.

Lewis Dunk, Brighton, £4.5

Budget FPL Enablers Defenders ~ Lewis Dunk

Coming in at £0.5 cheaper, Dunk jumps to the top options of the best budget enabling defenders given his good fixtures and decent attacking threat. Over the first eight GWs, Brighton has the 2^nd easiest defensive schedule, and Dunk is projected to score the 2^nd most points amongst £4.5 defenders. Dunk has also shown his attacking threat in the past as he scored the joint most goals amongst defenders in the 2020-2021 season.

There is a strong temptation to go for the more explosive and similarly priced Lamptey. However, with our budget enablers, it is better to pick reliable players with less uncertainty over minutes/injuries in case they are called upon. Dunk will be nailed for 90 minutes in a defense that had the 6^th fewest xGC last season, giving him a decent floor with the upside of those occasional goals.

Neco Williams, Nottingham Forest, £4.0

Budget FPL Enablers Defenders ~ Neco Williams

A move to Nottingham Forest has brought the Welsh defender back into the fantasy radar as the best £4.0 defender given his attacking threat and expected role for Forest. Williams is expected to take the wingback role from the departing Spence. On loan at Fulham last season, Williams showed some good attacking threat with two goals and two assists in 14 starts.

Forest also has some promising defensive signs allowing the second-fewest goals in the championship and signing four defensive assets, including GK Dean Henderson. Forest also has the 8^th easiest defensive schedule in the first eight GWs, giving Williams a safer floor with his attacking upside. At just £4.0, Williams offers managers trying to load up on premiums (like the threemiun approach) a perfect enabler.

Budget Enablers Midfielders (£5.5 or below)

Pedro Neto, Wolves, £5.5

Budget FPL Enablers Midfielders ~ Pedro Neto

Having recovered from the devasting knee injury that derailed most of last season, Neto comes in as one of the best budget midfielders to start with for the 2022-23 season. Neto has shown what he can do with an impressive 5 goals and 8 assists in the 2020/21 season. In his limited playing time last season, Neto posted a respectable xGI of 0.59 per 90 and had the best minute per shot and chances created amongst Wolves players.

There is a worry given Wolves’ struggles to score goals last season. However, with an entire pre-season to regain his form, Neto’s presence should provide wolves with a creative outlet they desperately miss. With the 4^th easiest schedule for attackers in the first six GWs and given his upside, the £5.5 Neto is a perfect risk worth taking.

Andreas Pereira, Fulham, £4.5

Budget FPL Enablers Midfielders ~ Andreas Pereira

During his loan spell, Andreas Pereira regained his form last season with 7 goals and 2 assists in 31 appearances for Flamengo. Pereira is now set to occupy the no.10 role (or slot in the 2-man midfield) left behind by Fabio Carvalho at Fulham. Pereira’s fixtures are not great, but his price point allows managers to load up on other premiums and have a cheap attacking midfield bench option if necessary. Pereira is also expected to be on set pieces, Corners, and operate in advanced areas giving him a nice upside at just £4.5.

Pablo Fornals, West Ham, £5.5

Budget FPL Enablers Midfielders ~ Pablo Fornals

With the rumored exit of Lanzini, Pablo Fornals is a name that can quickly rise in the ranks of best midfield budget enablers. Last season, Fornals started 32 games for the Hammers and had 10 attacking returns. Fornals also ranked 1^st in xGI, 1^st in Big Chances Created, and 2^nd in Big Chances amongst midfielders priced at £5.5 or below.

The Manchester City opening fixture is putting managers of West Ham attacking assets. However, from GW2-8, West ham has the 5^th easiest schedule for attackers. If Lanzini does leave and West Ham does not sign another midfielder, Fornals gives managers a proven cheap rotation option on some set pieces with decent starting fixtures.

Budget Enablers Forwards (£6.5 or below)

Aleksandar Mitrović, Fulham, £6.5

If it were not for his previous Premier League struggles, Mitrovic’s 43 goals and 7 assists in 44 appearances in the championship would have more managers buzzing this season. Despite his previous PL struggles, Mitrovic is still the standout budget-enabling forward option given his goal-scoring ability, being on penalties, and overall improved form. Mitrovic is also working with a new coach (since his PL struggles) that tailored Fulham’s attack to go through the Serbian. Fulham does have the 2^nd most difficult fixtures in the first 8 GWs, but for £6.5 or less, there are few options with the safe floor that Mitrovic presents.

Taiwo Awoniyi, Nottingham Forest, £6.0

Budget FPL Enablers Forwards ~ Taiwo Awoniyi

There is a lot of hype around Nottingham Forest forward Awoniyi after he arrived at Nottingham Forest for a club-record fee. Awoyini scored 15 goals from an xG of 14.85 in 31 appearances last season, showing his finishing ability. Awoniyi should slot into the front two forward slots with Brennan Johnson (another decent budget enabler). Pre-season should indicate how Awoniyi is adapting to the new team, whether he will be on penalties, and whether he is a better option than his teammate Johnson (£6.0). With the 5^th easiest fixtures for attackers in the first 8 GWs, Awoniyi can be a perfect rotation forward for those opting to go big at the back or with a 4-5-1 formation.

Deniz Undav, Brighton, £5.5

Budget FPL Enablers Forwards ~ Deniz Undav

Depending on minutes, Undav has the potential to be the best budget-enabling forward option to start the 2022-23 season. After scoring 26 goals last season, Undav comes into a Brighton side who have been desperate to find the answer to their striker problems. Undav also has playmaking abilities as he often drops deep to pick out the passes and be involved in the build-up.

In the first 8 GWs, Brighton has the easiest schedule for attackers making the Undav punt even more intriguing. Managers need to follow pre-season closely to see if there is any indication whether Undav will be first choice. If he is first choice, then at £5.5, Undav is an excellent budget-enabling forward option.
