On the surface, FPL looks like a very uncomplicated game where you recruit 15 players on a budget of 100m and they score you fantasy points based on their real-life performances in games but that is not even remotely the case. The game itself has many many aspects to it. One such important aspect is team value in FPL and mastering the game (if that’s possible) requires you to understand it well. Let’s take a closer look at team value, how it works, its importance, and how to optimize it for success. But first, let’s take a look at price changes to be able to better understand the concept of team value.

What are Price changes?
Let’s imagine FPL to be a market and the players to be assets in that market. Based on how a player performs, the demand for that player among FPL managers either increases or decreases. The better the player plays, the more the FPL managers transfer in a player, and the pricier the player gets. Similarly, the more the FPL managers transfer out a particular player, the steeper the fall in the player’s price. Every player in your squad comes with a price. Although there is no guarantee of that player being priced the same at the end of the season. Depending on how the player performs, their price may increase or decrease. As a rule of thumb, try to have more players that may increase in price and fewer of the ones that might decrease in price. Wanna read more about price changes, team value, and their importance?

What is Team Value in FPL & how does it work?
Player prices will change throughout the course of a season and in turn will your team value. Logically, it is better to have players with the potential to grow in value throughout the season. A gradual increase in the team value over a period is great. It is indicative of a series of good transfer decisions made by an FPL manager. You are making the right calls in terms of transfers if your team is growing positively in value. And, it does not only mean you are getting in the right players in but also that you are getting rid of the players that might lose value in time and bring your team value down.
Why is Team Value important?
More considerable team value allows for greater flexibility when tinkering with your squad. It will let you spend more when strengthening your squad either while making transfers or using the wildcard. Generally in FPL, the pricier the players, the better they are. While there are exceptions to this, it generally is the case. It means that a strong team value enables you to have more of the better players at practically no extra cost but choosing players wisely. The best part is, that while you can have a high team value, your competitors in the mini-leagues may not. This becomes a very favorable situation especially, towards the end of the season.
How to improve Team Value in FPL?
For starters, there are multiple tools that help FPL managers to keep track of price changes. Sign up for one of those. An important factor in these price changes is form. So try to keep up with the Premier League in general. There are multiple places to see the most transferred-in and the most transferred-out players in the game. Have the most transferred-in players on your watchlist and the most transferred-out players on your blacklist. Remember that the higher a player rises in price the lower the chances of a further increase becomes. Stay away from layers that have already had a huge price rise unless they are scoring a lot of points.

Prices change once a day. 1:30 AM BST/ 7:00 AM IST. Although price changes don’t need to occur every day.
The entire point of maintaining a good team value is to be in a strong position when you Wildcard or play the Free hit later in the season. When you Wildcard or play Free Hit, you can select players from your current team value rather than the 100m you start with.
