Greetings everyone! The 2021/22 season just ended a few weeks back, and we already have the fixture list for the 2022/23 season. Premier League has just announced the fixtures for this season, and FPL managers can already start planning for the 2022/23 season. In this blog, we’ll look at the best rotational pairs and combinations based on team fixtures for the 2022/23 FPL season starting GW1.

How many Premiums to go for in the 2022/23 FPL Season?

Usually, in a season it is common to start with just two premiums, and spread the remaining cash around the team. However, with the sheer number of premiums available in the game right now, one can opt for three premiums. Having three premiums of course puts constraints on the rest of the team, with a weak bench. Therefore, in this article, we will consider the case of owning two premiums and analyse which pair rotates the best.

Rotational Pairs & Combinations | Goal Keepers for the 2022/23 FPL Season

In this section, let’s see which pair of Goalkeepers rotate well with each other. In this, I’ll stick to budget keeper rotation only as if you go for a Premium Keeper, it’s better to give him every start rather than rotating him along with another keeper.

David Raya & Nottingham Forest’s Keeper

FPL Rotational Pairs | Raya for 2022/23 season

The rotation between the Brentford keeper and the Forest keeper is arguably one of the best rotations amongst the budget keeper on paper. All the way till GW15, they can be rotated perfectly. Their fixtures look something like this:

FPL Fixture Rotation: Forest & Brentford for 2022/23 season
Fixture Rotation: GW1-GW15 | Forest & Brentford

The fixture in blue represents when that keeper should be in your playing eleven, and red depicts when he should be benched. We can see a series of great fixtures in blue, which could grab managers a lot of clean sheets. Therefore, having this pair from the beginning could help solve your keeper problems, at least for the first half of the season. Moreover, Nottingham Forest are looking to sign Dean Henderson who is an incredible talent between the posts and help them keep a lot of clean sheets.

Rotational Pairs & Combinations | Budget Defender for the 2022/23 FPL Season

Since the last couple of seasons, there has been an evident rise of premium defenders in FPL teams. Managers tend to spend more on defence, on the likes of Trent Alexander, Robertson, Cancelo etc, as they provide a reliable source of points. Therefore, apart from these, let’s see according to the fixtures, which defenders rotate perfectly, to fill the 4.5m to 5m spots in the defence.

Tyrick Mitchell & Ait Nouri

The Wolves defender and Palace defender have fixtures lined up in such a way, that they can be used to rotate efficiently. Both the teams have a good run, going into the season, and also play with a defensive mindset. Wolves have a reputation of being very difficult to score against, and Palace can also keep a series of clean sheets on a good spell. Their fixtures are as follows:

Fixture Rotation: Wolves & Palace for 2022/23 FPL Season
Fixture rotation: GW1-GW15 | Wolves & Palace

As mentioned earlier, the blue fixture shows the preferred fixture out of the two. When the blue run of fixtures is considered, it looks like a very attractive run of fixtures on paper.

Rotational Pairs & Combinations | Attackers for the 2022/23 FPL Season

With that, let’s see which combination of players rotates well with putting the armband on them. I’ll be considering the first 16 fixtures, till 12th November, before we go into a one-month break due to the FIFA World Cup.

Salah & Haaland

The first pair we go on to look at is the one that’s going to be very common amongst FPL managers. The Liverpool star has proven his worth over the years, especially on the opening day of the PL, that too against a promoted team. The other player, for whom the whole community is excited for, is Erling Haaland. He will be making his debut for his new team, Manchester City. He is an incredible player who scores a lot of goals, and with such lucrative opening fixtures, he is going to be in many FPL teams.

Fixtures: GW1-GW5

Captaincy Rotation for Salah & Haaland

For the first five weeks, the armband can be switched between them alternatively. As it can be seen in the table below, owning the pair can get you a captain against, Fulham, Bournemouth twice, Newcastle, and Nottingham Forest.

After this run, Manchester City go on to face a relatively difficult run of fixtures. Between Gameweek 7 and Gameweek 12, they face Spurs, Wolves, Manchester United, Southampton, Liverpool and Arsenal. Even Liverpool face Chelsea, Brighton, Arsenal and Man City from Gameweek 8 onwards. Over this run, it would be wise to switch to premium options from teams like Spurs or United.

FPL Rotational Pairs | Fuxtures:GW6-10
Fixtures: GW6-GW10

From the fixture ticker above, we can see that Man City and Liverpool go on a tougher run, as compared to Spurs and United in the same period. Therefore, in GW6, making a getting in Son/Kane or Ronaldo/Bruno for Haaland or Salah gives these fixtures to managers:

Son/KaneRonaldo/Bruno
GW6FULARS
GW7mcicry
GW8LEILEE
GW9arsmci
GW10bhaeve
Captaincy Rotation between Spurs and Man United

Conclusion

In this pair, you start your season with Salah and Haaland, and get in Son or Kane for Haaland in GW6. Having Salah throughout this period is fine. However, if you want to dodge his tough fixtures, you could replace him with either of Manchester United’s premium options. Post GW12, City again have a great fixture run against Brighton, Leicester, Fulham and Brentford. As for Liverpool, they go on an easy run of fixtures after facing Man City in GW11.

Fixtures: GW11-GW16

Son/Kane & Salah

The Spurs duo and Salah also rotate perfectly in the first half of the season. Spurs ended last season in an electric form, especially Son, who ended up winning the PL Golden Boot as well. Therefore, with opening fixtures like these, I would not mind having Son along with Salah as my premiums.

Fixture Rotation for 2022/23 season
Fixtures rotation GW1-GW8 | Spurs and Liverpool

Captaincy Rotation between Son/Kane & Salah

From the above fixture list, we can see that these two teams have incredible fixtures and they provide amazing captaincy options from GW1, all the way to GW8. In GW1 Salah against Fulham is too good to ignore, and after that, you get a run of captaincy against, Palace, Wolves, Bournemouth, Newcastle and Fulham.

Post this period, the fixtures of premium teams look like this:

Fixtures:GW9-16 for 2022/23 season
Fixtures: GW9-GW16

For Liverpool’s run between GW8 and GW12, it could be beneficial to switch from the likes of Salah to a City premium like KDB or Haaland. Moreover, in GW11, planning to transfer out the City premium out for someone like Ronaldo or Lukaku, and then getting Salah back in for his GW13 onwards run, seems like an optimal strategy on paper.

Conclusion

This combination yet again is a great one to start the season with. Moreover, it provides more assurance as compared to starting the season with Haaland, as we have seen Son play in the PL before. As for Haaland, he should be getting a lot of goals, but it might take him time to settle in, and tackle the Pep Roulette.

Also instead of Salah, you could pair Son with Haaland or KDB, for GW1, and rotate accordingly.

Therefore, keeping all these rotations in mind could help draft your GW1 team and plan your major transfers ahead. Having a plan can help shape your team in a much better way. Thanks for reading this blog!
