Man United FPL Overview
Man United have been on an underwhelming run for the past couple of seasons now. They were in a dire need of change in the system, style of play, and morale in the squad. The appointment of Erik Ten Haag and a couple of new signings could really help them bounce back this season.
Many United assets have witnessed a drop in their starting prices this season, which makes them an even more lucrative option. Marcus Rashford (6.5m), Jadon Sancho (7.5m), and Anthony Martial (7m) could be worth taking a punt on.
Manchester United Pre-Season & Prediction
United had a pretty good pre-season. They beat Liverpool 4-0 in the first game. The predicted lineup, judging from the pre-season games could be something like this:
As Ronaldo is expected to leave the club, Anthony Martial should start in the number 9 position, at least for the first couple of weeks of the season. He also seemed to be in the key plans in the pre-season by Ten Haag. Even if Ronaldo doesn’t leave, he should be the main man to start in the first few weeks.
On the flanks, Rashford and Sancho seem to be pretty nailed. They even looked sharp in the pre-season games. Bruno Fernandes also seems cemented in his usual number 10 position. The CM position could also see McTominay start a couple of games instead of Eriksen.
Diogo Dalot started most of the pre-season, ahead of Wan-Bissaka indicating Dalot starting the season as the first choice full-back. In the CB position, Harry Maguire and the new signing, Lissandro Martinez could be seen in the GW1 eleven.
Man United FPL Assets
Let’s take a look at what Manchester United have to offer in terms of FPL. We won’t be able to gauge much from the previous season’s output, as they had a below-par season, under a different manager, morale, and atmosphere in the squad. Things are looking a lot more positive now, and they could overturn this season.
Man United FPL Assets- Defenders
Diogo Dalot (4.5m)
The only United defender whom I think is worth keeping is Diogo Dalot. He started some pre-season games over Wan-Bissaka. It also seemed that ETH preferred him, and would like the same pre-season momentum to continue in the season.
Dalot is the only defender that I would consider having in my FPL team right now. There are a lot more players especially with big at the back being one of the most popular strategies to start the season with.

Man United FPL Assets- Midfielders
Jadon Sancho (7.5m)
Sancho has arguably been the sharpest player in the squad in the pre-season. He scored a total of 3 goals till now, and also had a lot of chances. Although he had an underwhelming 2021/22 season, with a total xGI of 8.1, Ten Haag’s appointment could lead to his change in form for good.
Marcus Rashford (6.5m)
On the left flank, Rashford looked pretty sharp as well. He scored 2 goals and had one assist in the five games United played in the pre-season. Moreover, this season he is massively underpriced at just 6.5m. Last season, he played just 1,232 minutes and had an xGI / 90 of 0.5.
He had pretty good stats with 1.61 shots and 0.5 Big Chance every 90 minutes. He played on both the wings last season but with Sancho on right, he would be used more on the left flank. However, there is a slight rotation risk involved in case Ronaldo stays at United.
If he is able to get back on the scoring terms, he could arguably become the best FPL asset in the game at this price point.

Bruno Fernandes (10.0m)
The Portuguese magnifico had had a great time at United since he joined. In the 2021/22 season, he had 10 goals and 7 assists, with basically an xGI/90 of 0.6, and 4.36 FPL points every 90 minutes. He is an incredible player and a very reliable FPL asset. However, currently, it’s not worth spending the price of a premium on a United asset. I would recommend going for Sterling rather than Fernandes in your GW 1 squad.
Therefore, in the midfield position, I would suggest going for either Sancho or Rashford, depending upon your team structure.

Man United FPL Assets – Forwards
Anthony Martial (7.0m)
The French forward had the highest output from the United squad in the pre-season. He had 3 goals and 1 assist in the pre-season games. The only downturn in picking Martial would be that Ronaldo’s transfer move still hasn’t been confirmed. He played just 9 matches in Sevilla last season, in which he had a low xG and xA of 0.3 and 0.2 respectively. This season could be a fresh start for him, especially keeping in mind the pre-season he’s had.
So, he is competing against Ronaldo for that forward spot. However, I still think he should be in the starting eleven for at least the first couple of gameweeks.

Cristiano Ronaldo (10.5m)
The 37-year-old, Portuguese forward demanded a transfer move, at the start of the window. He was linked to many teams, with one of them being to their PL rivals, Chelsea. However, any of the transfer rumors didn’t come true. Now, with the season just being days away, it is highly likely that he ends up staying at United.
All this conundrum around him has led to the rise of Martial’s involvement in the squad. Other than this, he still had 21-goal involvement last season in the PL. Even now, if he gets regular starts, his name would appear regularly on the scoresheet. He had 4.03 shots every 90 minutes and an xG/90 of 0.6.
Considering all of this, I definitely wouldn’t recommend starting the season with Ronaldo. There are a lot of better options to own, even at lower price points.

Man United Fixtures
United have a fairly easy start to the 2022/23 season. They play Brighton at home in the opening Gameweek, after which they go on to play Brentford. Liverpool is the toughest opponent they go against in the first five gameweeks. In the spell of the next five gameweeks, apart from Arsenal and Man City, they have pretty decent fixtures against Palace, Leeds, and Everton.
Post-Gameweek 10, they have an incredible run all the way till Gameweek 25. They face Spurs and Chelsea in the first half of the run, and Man City and Arsenal in the second half. With the Premier League going on a break for the World Cup in Gameweek 16, it could give a bit more perspective on their players by that time.
In the period post-Gameweek 16, they have Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth at home in 2 out of the next 3 gameweeks. After two difficult fixtures, they again have 3 home games in the next 4 gameweeks.
Therefore, they have an amazing fixture run with most of the difficult fixtures being played together and the easier ones lining up over a series of weeks. This could help transfer their players out for a few weeks in that run and easily get them back for their better fixtures.

Manchester United FPL Assets – Conclusion
To conclude, Manchester United is a team who is recovering from the shackles of bad team morale, situation, and form. Converted into FPL terms, it is basically an indicator to stay away from their expensive assets for now. However, with FPL towers being so generous this season, and putting a 6.5/7m price tag on their attack, it is definitely worth taking a punt on one of them.
