Key FPL Assets with Change in FPL Position for the 22/23 Season

Well, it’s no surprise that at the start of a new season, some FPL assets have their position changed, and sometimes these position changes can be good for us FPL managers.

One position change that wasn’t good for us FPL managers, was when Stuart Dallas was changed from a defender to a midfielder in the game. This change in position saw a drop in ownership for Stuart Dallas.

Another position change that wasn’t great, was changing ASM from a midfielder to a forward. That wasn’t good for us FPL managers as ASM just wasn’t providing enough value for money.

This season though, the position changes promises to be a lot better. In this article, we’d be looking at what players have had their position changed and whether they’re good buys or not.

What Players Have Had Their Positions Changed Ahead Of The 2022/23 FPL season

The following players have had their positions changed in the game, some of them have been changed from forwards to midfielders, some from midfielders to forward and then others from midfielders to defenders.

Forward to Midfielder:

£6.5m – Saint-Maximin
£6.0m – Rodrigo
£6.0m – Hwang
£6.0m – Joelinton
£5.5m – Ayew

Midfielder to Forward:

£9.0m – Jota
£8.0m – Havertz
£6.0m – Mbeumo

Midfielder to Defender:

£5.0m – Canos
£5.0m – Dallas

Now that we have an idea of the players who have had their positions changed, we now want to see which one of them would prove to be good value for money.

Forward To midfield position change

FPL Position change ~ Saint Maximin change from Forward to midfielder — ASM pretty much had the same average position last year as Wilson and will have the same similar average position this too

Well, I’m a little bit drawn and feel like the players whose position changed from forwards to midfielders would offer more value and prove to be better FPL assets in general. Why? Simply because with these assets you almost get a player who could potentially play out of position and further up the pitch.

Take, for instance, a player like Allan Saint-Maximin whose position has been changed from a Forward to midfielder; with him, chances are he plays a decent amount of games in the forward position this season. This puts him further up the pitch and increases his chances of returning FPL points.

And the same goes for Hwang(Could play as forward once he’s back from injury), Joelinton, Ayew, and Rodrigo(Also on pens) who are midfielders in the game but could play as strikers in real life.

This one is a little bit tricky and it’s one that I am not really confident about. There are three players whose positions have been changed from midfielders to forwards and they are: Havertz, Jota, and Mbeumo.

The thing with these FPL assets is that they are very versatile players- they can play several positions. Jota, for example, can play anywhere across the front three and Havertz can play as a midfielder, a forward and a false nine.

This versatility can be bad. Because one game they’re given the role of a striker and in several other games they are given a different role and no matter what role they are given, they’d still return the same points as strikers.

Which isn’t good, you don’t want your forward, playing as a midfielder in a game. If that happens he just isn’t good value for money. So, instead of spending money on assets that you’re not sure what role or position they’d be playing, why not spend it on players whose roles and positions are quite obvious.

Midfielder to Defender position change

Midfield to Defender position change is another good thing for us FPL managers and we want to keep an eye on these FPL assets: Dallas of Leeds and Canos of Brentford.

Dallas, two seasons ago, was a defender in the game but in real life he was used as a midfielder, right- back and winger. It could still be the case this season if injuries hit Leeds United.

His versatility, in this case, would be a good one because he’d be used further up the pitch which increases his chances of getting a goal or an assist.

Canos and Dallas are assets we want to keep an eye on.

Which of these FPL assets should you add to your team

Mbeumo, Havertz, Jordan Ayew, and Allan Saint-Maximin seem to be decent options. They are cheap and could prove to be good budget enablers.

The potential of them being used as strikers in real life is also something that makes them even more appealing and they could prove to be good additions to your FPL team.

Havertz for instance looks set to lead the line and could be a great differential from Chelsea to consider.

The defenders on the other hand, are ones that we would like to wait and see how things develop. It won’t be the best move to add them to your team from GW1 as they’re much better defensive options in the game.

Those whose positions changed from midfield to forward are ones that we shouldn’t go for just yet. And that’s because of the uncertainty surrounding their positions.

As the season goes on we’d have a better idea as to how these FPL assets would be used; so till then, it’s better to look elsewhere.
