Since the launch of FPL for the 2022/23 season, there has been many a discussion on the best Liverpool assets to own. With preferable fixtures to start the season, having three assets is quite possibly the optimal way to start the season. In this article, I shall look at 5 treble combinations that FPL managers should consider starting the season with. I will also note the positives and negatives for each Triad.

Liverpool Fixtures
1. TAA, Robertson & Salah
I would say this is the “safest” triad in regards to proven and sustainable points from previous seasons. With Salah (as we all know), you have perhaps the greatest ever FPL asset. In his 5 seasons with LIV, his lowest score has been 231 points – a stalwart in my team at the start of every season.
TAA has recreated the RB role, which has led to an incredible amount of points in the last 4 seasons. With 24 attacking returns in the last 2 seasons, the Englishman is only getting better and is likely to have another stellar season.
Robertson has perhaps been “ignored” in comparison to TAA when considering the Scot’s attacking potential. With 23 attacking returns in the last 2 seasons, the Scotsman is proving he is more than just a defensive asset.
Pros
- “Nailed” in regards to starting most games for the team, no real competition in their respective positions
- Each are consistent performers and can be relied upon to continue the trend
- Covering the EO (Effective Ownership), specifically with TAA and Salah
- Each asset will likely rise in price in the early part of the season
Cons
- Using a considerable amount of budget for just 3 assets (27.5m)
- Potential sacrifices in squad balance as 2 x premiums in DEF
- “Hopping” on to an 8m MID asset (as there seem to be multiple options at that price point) is possibly restricted due to the high cost in DEF
2. TAA, Robertson & Diaz
The next treble replaces Salah with Diaz. The Colombian brought the South American flair which excited fans across the PL last season. He quickly became the LW of choice in the front 3 for LIV which helped the team reach the UCL final.
In GW35-38, his touches in the box and general heatmaps were in the most advanced offensive areas – behavior that makes Luis a viable FPL asset this season.
Pros
- Considerable saving (5m) in selecting Diaz over Salah – thus, making the FPL squad stronger
- Diaz seems the first choice LW after the departure of Mane
- With his mannerisms to cut inside from the left, I expect more shots from the winger
Cons
- Salah is likely to be one of the most highly owned assets, any return from the Egyptian is likely to plummet your rank quickly
- Jota, Darwin and Firmino will also be battling for the two positions with Salah in the front 3, thus I can see rotation

3. TAA, Robertson & Alisson
Going triple DEF with the Liverpool assets is certainly an “all in” option. However, this could provide great dividends when LIV keep clean sheets.
Alisson has proven to be more than a “6-point merchant”, he actually gets BPS points as LIV concede chances as a consequence for their intensity during matches. At a very generous 5.5m pricing, he is an asset we can strongly consider this season.
Pros
- Can likely build a strong squad with the 3 x LIV DEF and 3 premium players
- Each CS will provide great point hauls for the team – and with a high % of expected Clean sheets, this is a viable strategy
- TAA & Robertson are attacking assets based on their historical attacking returns
Cons
- High risk with the strategy of 3 x DEF – one goal conceded dramatically lowers the points potential
- Diaz and Salah are each highly owned – any returns will have significant consequences on your team

4. TAA, Salah & Diaz
This has been a popular treble that I have seen across the FPL community. Having an additional attacker in Diaz for just 8m has certainly been met by being the 3rd most owned LIV asset (30.8%).
From GW31-38, Diaz pretty much matched Salah, and having them as a duo is extremely enticing for the opening fixtures. With Liverpool very much a front-foot team, we can expect a litany of chances for the attackers.
Pros
- Double LIV attack is explosive for FPL Managers
- Favourable fixtures should see a high xG for Liverpool
- TAA’s arced crosses could provide Diaz with great opportunities running from the LW position
Cons
- Diaz will always have the risk of rotation
- Possibility of being taken off early – especially with the 5 sub-rule this season
Before I conclude with my preferred Triad, I must spend some time on Trent Alexander-Arnold. He has featured in every combination and I cannot advocate going into the season without the swashbuckling right-back.
Trent Alexander Arnold FPL Record
His statistics speak for themselves and has achieved double-figure attacking returns in each of the last 4 seasons. I know the word is quite taboo, but TAA is ESSENTIAL for all FPL Managers.

5. TAA, Salah & Nunez
The costliest Liverpool triple-up combination with one defender(TAA), one midfielder(Salah), and one Forward(Nunez). The trio would cost you 29.5 Million, close to 1/3 of your 100 million budget, but there’s definitely an upside to this strategy. TAA and Salah guarantee you points and the same should apply to Nunez as well, the Liverpool forward bagged four goals against Leipzig in Liverpool’s last friendly. Nunez is a proven goal scorer and a forward in a Klopp system will get quality goal-scoring options week in and week out.
Pros
- Two Liverpool attackers guarantees a lot of FPL points
- Good run of fixtures would mean Liverpool should get going from the first game
- Salah, Nunez and TAA all in fine pre-season form
Cons
- Takes up a lot of your budget
- Nunez could be rotated when Jota is back from injury
Which Treble do I prefer?
Despite all of the options being viable for FPL Managers next season, it has really come down to these players; Robertson vs Diaz.
Salah and TAA were the first two names in my draft, thus I am 95% likely to start with the duo. However, looking at the +/- of the aforementioned, I have been really indecisive as to which asset better suits my squad.
Below are separate drafts with the LIV assets.
“Big at the back” would be the way I would go if selecting Robertson. The 1m saving over Diaz has garnered a stronger-looking defence and allowed good price points should I want to rotate assets at the back.
The difference with this draft is I have replaced Robertson & Colback with N.Williams & Diaz respectively. 4-4-2 would be my strategy as I would want multiple price points across the team. As there are many well priced midfielders in the 8m price, having Diaz allows the flexibility to make the moves.
Conclusion
Based on the above, I would select Diaz if the season were to start tomorrow. Having a LIV attacker at just 8m is too enticing an opportunity to miss. Especially as I expect the Colombian to start the opening games.
With assets such as Foden, Mount, Saka, and Maddison at the same price point, Diaz would allow an easy switch without having to break my squad.
