With the price reveals out, we can already see what our core squads could look like come GW1, with the Big 6 teams forming the core of our 15 man squads. However, you can’t fit them all, and in order to compensate for the lack of premium assets from the Big Boys, here’s a guide for the Best FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams to consider for 2022/23 season.

Note: These picks are made on the basis of past trends and impact of the said player on a teams performances and can be subject to change based on transfer news

Best FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams to consider for 2022/23 season

Aston Villa

Matty Cash (5.0m)

Best FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams to consider for 2022/23 season- Matty Cash

With him being Aston Villa’s top FPL points scorer last season, Matty Cash is expected to better his tally of 147 points. He scored 4 goals and provided 3 assists as he played a helping hand in Villa picking up 13 clean sheets last season, having started all 38 games.

BPS: 623(13th among defenders)

Phillipe Coutinho (7.0m)

Despite being a January signing, Phillipe Coutinho was quick to get up and running for the midlands outfits last season, and he averaged close to 4.4 points per match in the second half of last season.

He made 16 starts and had a hand in 5 goals + 3 assists, fetching him 83 points. Plus the prospect of Stevie G and Coutinho working together and the former Liverpool maestro’s familiarity with the league, Coutinho could serve as a great differential. BPS: 283

Ollie Watkins (7.5m)

Ollie Watkins represents good value at his price despite sharing minutes with Danny Ings and his stats back up this argument. The former Brentford forward scored 11 goals and provided 3 assists in a season where Villa went through a transitional phase, picking up 131 points in the process.

Even though he starts most of the games for the Midlands outfit (33 starts in 21/22), there is a tendency of him being subbed off early in games, so just be prepared to take some risks with him. BPS: 441

Bournemouth

Dominic Solanke (6.0m)

Best FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams to consider for 2022/23 season- Solanke

With him being the 2nd highest goal scorer last season in the championship, Dominic Solanke was one of the main reasons for the automatic promotion of the Cherries back in the top flight after a 2-year absence. He scored 29 goals and picked up 7 assists along the way. Solanke also happens to be the first choice penalty taker for the south coast outfit and represents good value.

Jordan Zemura (4.5m)

The Zimbabwean defender played a huge role in Bournemouth’s promotion with 21 clean sheets. The left-back also carries an attacking threat with him getting 3 goals and one assist.

Phillip Billing (5.5m)

The Danish midfielder picked up 10 goals and 10 assists in the Championship and at that price point, he can be a steal if Bournemouth start well.

Brentford

Ivan Toney (7.0m)

Best FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams to consider for 2022/23 season- Ivan Toney

To put it in simpler terms, Brentford’s talisman was one of the main reasons for the Bees’ stunning return to the top flight.

The former Newcastle man picked up 12 goals and 5 assists and if we are being honest, it could have been a lot more. Plus with Brentford’s shrewd recruitment, he will have more players who will provide him those key passes to score even more points than the 139 he scored in 21/22. BPS: 502(3rd among forwards)

David Raya (4.5m)

The Spaniard had an up and down season last year. Despite starting well in the first few weeks, Raya suffered an injury which kept him out for the majority of the campaign.

However, after returning to full fitness, he had a decent season and had a hand in keeping 8 clean sheets out of the 10 Brentford kept throughout the season, making 24 starts and producing 95 points. BPS: 496

Rotating Raya(4.5) and Sanchez(4.5) till GW15 can yield good results as shown below.

Pontus Jannson 4.5

The Swedish centre-back provides a towering presence at the heart of the defence for the West-London outfit. Having started 37 of the 38 games in 21/22, he picked up 8 clean sheets and also had 7 goal contributions (3G+4A) which helped him amass 122 FPL points. BPS: 616

Brighton and Hove Albion

Marc Cucurella (5.0m)

The marauding left back is was one of the best creative defenders in the league last season, having been ranked at 6th in FPL creativity charts just behind the likes of TAA, Cancelo and James. His positional flexibility (LB and LCB) makes him a very exciting FPL asset to own if you’re someone who wants to go different to the ‘Big at the Back’ trend.

The former La Masia product only scored and assisted once last season, but in truth, those numbers could have been sky high if it weren’t for Brighton’s poor finishing stats. Cucurella also picked up 11 clean sheets in 35 starts, helping him get 126 points in his first season at a BPS of 673(11th among defenders).

Leandro Trossard (6.5m)

Best FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams to consider for 2022/23 season- Trossard

Probably the best player in Graham Potter’s side, the Belgian midfielder scored 8 goals and 4 assists on his way to amassing 141 points from 32 starts at a BPS of 465, averaging 4.4 Points per match in what was his best ever FPL season.

Again, another player at the Amex who was a little unlucky not to get more courtesy of the No.9 conundrum on the south coast as he happens to be one of the most creative wingers in the top flight, having an FPL threat index of 1020(6th among midfielders).

Robert Sanchez (4.5m)

Brighton’s No. 1 is one of the cheapest goalkeepers in the game and offers one of the best value for money picks at 4.5m. The Spaniard picked up 11 clean sheets and made 101 saves, getting him 8 bonus points at a BPS of 679.

Deniz Undav (5.5m)

He scored 25 goals and supplied 10 assists in 33 games last season in the Belgian First Division but to be very frank, it is not the English Premier League, thus I highly doubt that he will continue to score goals at the same rate as he did in the previous campaign.

Taking a wait and see approach here is the right way to go. As we saw with Brighton attackers last season, there was value in picking them at the right moments and in the right matchups. He will need time to adjust, but he has shown that he can score. There seems to be a bit of assuredness in his play and attitude. He’s one that we should be keeping an eye on.

Crystal Palace

Wilfred Zaha (7.0m)

One of the longest serving players at Selhurst Park, the Ivorian had his best ever FPL season last season, amassing 150 points thanks to 14 goals and 2 assists from 31 starts at a BPS of 422. Expect him to start the season up and running again.

Joachim Andersen (4.5m)

The Dane contributed 4 assists and contributed to 12 clean sheets, which signifies him being a key player in the setup of Patrick Viera as he picked up 124 points last season. BPS: 619

Michael Olise (5.5m)

The French winger made 26 appearances while starting only 12 of those games, but his points potential shouldn’t be underestimated. He scored 2 goals and managed to set up 6 assists for his teammates and at some point very soon he is expected to replace Jordan Ayew and Christian Benteke as a first team player. One to keep an eye on in terms of FPL Picks outside Top 6 teams ahead of 2022/23 season.

Everton

Anthony Gordon (5.5m)

With Richarlison off to Spurs, Gordon is expected to be handed over the mantle of being the main man in attack as Everton look to improve on what was a very exhausting 2021/22 campaign. The Everton born and bred youngster picked up only 4 goals and 3 assists but still managed to amass 100 points despite only starting 25 games. BPS: 325

Jordan Pickford (4.5m)

Best FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams to consider for 2022/23 season- Pickford

The England No.1 has a knack of pulling off crucial saves and picks up bonus points for fun. He made a whopping 117 saves(6th highest) last season to keep the Toffees in the Premier League. BPS: 624

Demarai Gray (5.5m)

The Nigerian winger picked up 5 goals and 5 assists and provides great differential value at 5.5m for the midfield spots. BPS: 397

Fulham

Aleksandr Mitrovic (6.5m)

Best FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams to consider for 2022/23 season- Mitrovic

The maverick Serbian was the top goal scorer in the Championship last season with 43 goals in 44 starts as the Cottagers roared to the title in emphatic fashion. He also picked up 7 assists in addition to his goals and averaged 1.18 Goal contributions per 90, making him a great forward option at 6.5M.

Harry Wilson (6.0m)

Mitrovic’s partner-in-crime Harry Wilson picked up 19 assists, the highest in the Championship and chipped in with 10 goals too in what is blossoming into a great partnership up top for the West London outfit.

Andreas Pereira (4.5m)

The cheapest starting midfielder in the game, the former United man is a must have if you’re on the lookout for enablers. Read more on “Why Andreas Pereira can be the best 4.5 FPL Midfielder this season”.

Leeds United

Jack Harrison (6.0m)

Best FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams to consider for 2022/23 season- Harrison

With Raphinha expected to depart Elland Road this summer, Jack Harrison is the next man in line to provide the goods in the Brazilian’s absence. On several occasions, the former City academy product has performed big time, most notably on the final day of the recently concluded season where the Whites completed a great escape under Jesse Marsch in which Harrison scored a late winner.

He picked up 8 goals and an assist which helped him accumulate 117 points. This was despite Leeds not having a proper striker and with the possible return of Bamford too, he can be a very smart pick for FPL managers. BPS: 408

Illan Meslier (4.5m)

The french shot-stopper only managed to keep 5 clean sheets last season but the ceiling for his save points and bonus points is quite high, as a BPS of 713(3rd among goalkeepers) would suggest along with the 143 saves(1st among goalkeepers) he made.

Rasmus Kristensen (5.0m)

Having worked with Jesse Marsch at RB Salzburg, Kristensen is the all-action full back who will provide the width from the right side of the defence and represents a big upgrade on the defensive personnel.

The Dane had a hand in 10 goals and 8 assists in all competitions from Right-Back! Imagine the damage he could do as a wing-back too.

Joe Gelhardt (5.5m)

The young Englishman was mostly used as a substitute last season but with question marks over the availability of No.9’s at Elland Road, he has a chance to nail down a first team spot. He got 2 goals and 4 assists at an average of 122 minutes per contribution, representing the value for a budget forward.

Leicester City

James Maddison (8.0m)

Best FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams to consider for 2022/23 season- Maddison

Overlooking Leicester’s No. 10 can turn out to be a very costly mistake, as it was demonstrated last season. Despite Leicester’s hot and cold form, Maddison still managed to pick up 12 goals and 11 assists from 35 games (28 starts), gaining 181 points which made it his best ever FPL season since he first came to the King Power in 2018.

And he has a knack for double digit hauls too, as signified by a BPS of 637 and at 8.0m, he is priced just about right in our opinion.

Jamie Vardy (9.5m)

A veteran of the FPL setup, Jamie Vardy is still going strong at the age of 35. Having had a price drop for the first time since 2017/18, this seems like an enticing option.

For all the struggles Vardy faced in an injury hit season, the frontman still managed to pick up 15 goals and 3 assists from 25 appearances (20 starts) and like Madders, he also possesses the ability to rack up mega hauls. BPS: 480

Harvey Barnes (7.0m)

The Englishman scored 6 goals and provided 12 assists as he managed to pick up 137 points, his highest ever FPL points tally. A word of caution on his starts though, as he does get rotated with Daka and Ihenacho. BPS: 377

Newcastle United

Bruno Guimarães (6.0m)

Signed by the Geordies in January 2022, the Brazilian was quick to settle in at St. James’ Park. He picked up 5 goals and 1 assist from just 11 starts at a BPS of 245, making it a sign of big things to come from him as Eddie Howe continues his revolution at Newcastle

Kieran Trippier (5.0m)

The Newcastle United full-back made an immediate impact at both ends of the pitch after arriving in last January’s transfer window.

Trippier scored twice and collected a clean sheet in his first four appearances before he was sidelined through injury. He averaged 5.6 points per start over his five Newcastle outings in 2021/22, having returned to action at the end of the season. And he also has set pieces in his locker too, having scored both his goals from free kicks.

Nottingham Forest

Taiwo Awoniyi (6.0m)

The Nigerian joins the promoted outfit on a club record transfer fee, having picked up 15 goals and 1 assist in 29 starts in the Bundesliga as he helped Union Berlin secure a fifth-place finish and Europa League qualification. A very good option in attack if Steve Cooper can manage to get the best out of him.

Brennan Johnson (6.0m)

We all faced a shortage of good forwards last season but there is a change in squad structures this year around due to positional changes and decent pricing. Brennan Johnson is another example.

The Welsh youngster was the main man at the City Ground last season as the Reds won the playoffs to secure promotion to the Premier League, ending a 23-year exile by doing the same. He picked up 16 goals and 10 assist from 44 starts, averaging almost 0.60 goal contributions per 90 mins

Neco Williams (4.0m)

Simply put, FPL managers love having a 4.0 million defender who will start games and can provide attacking threat as well. And with Nottingham playing with a back 3, the role of the wing backs becomes important

If Neco Williams can replicate Djed Spence’s exploits, he can be the biggest bargains of the season.

Southampton

James Ward Prowse (6.5m)

Best FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams to consider for 2022/23 season- Ward Prowse

Often overlooked due to the abundance of players at his price point, Southampton’s midfield lynchpin has a stunning record from free kicks and has spot kick duties. It helped him pick up 10 goals and 5 assists from 36 starts, averaging 0.42 goal contributions per 90 which make him a very left field option and someone who can help you climb mini league ranks.

Combined with the fact that the Saints man has broken his own FPL points record for 2 seasons running (156 in 20/21,159 in 21/22),one can only expect those numbers to only rise even more. BPS: 769

Kyle Walker-Peters (4.5m)

With Tino Livramento’s injury ruling him out for the start of the campaign, KWP is an able deputy and he probably has the right back spot nailed at St. Mary’s. In addition to the 6 clean sheets he picked up in 29 starts, the former Spurs full back also scored 1 goal and set up 3 others which highlights his all round potential. BPS: 481

Che Adams (6.5m)

Southampton’s main man in attack, Che Adams looks like he has finally settled at the South Coast. He scored 7 goals and provided 4 assists from 23 starts despite sharing minutes with Broja and Armstrong last season. BPS: 333

West Ham

Jarrod Bowen (8.5m)

12 goals! 17 assists! Killer left foot! Playing on the right for the Hammers! On some occasions as a striker too! A fan favourite! What’s not to like?

The 25 year old Englishman is coming off his best ever FPL season, amassing 208 points which was bettered only by Salah, Son and TAA. Even though his price might seem to be a tad too high, Bowen has the potential to explode and if he can replicate those numbers, the former Hull City winger represents excellent differential value. BPS: 586

Aaron Cresswell (5.0m)

The veteran left-back has set pieces and free kicks on his side in addition to potential clean sheets too. He has picked up 2 goals and 15 assists in the last 2 seasons. And he is still going strong at 32, providing experience to the West Ham backline.

Said Benrahma (6.0m)

Even though owning him can be a little frustrating due to rotational issues, the tricky Algerian still managed to pick up 14 goal contributions (8G+6A) in 26 starts, which makes him a cheaper alternative to Bowen.

Pablo Fornals (5.5m)

With Manuel Lanzini expected to depart the London Stadium, Fornals looks the most likely to start in the 4th attacking slot for David Moyes’ troops in the 22/23 season. His stats aren’t sky high but for his price point they seem decent, with the Spaniard picking up 6 goals and 4 assists in 32 starts last season.

Wolves

Jonny (4.5m)

The Spaniard has the ability to operate on both flanks, which could potentially make him a must have if Wolves get going. A word of caution on his fitness though, having missed the best part of the last two seasons with long term injuries. But his return towards the end of the season came as a relief for Bruno Lage as he managed to pick up 2 goals and 2 clean sheets. BPS: 178 (10 games played)

Rayan Ait-Nouri (Defender, 4.5m)

With Saiss and Marcal departing from Molineux, the Frenchman has the opportunity to nail down a spot as Wolves’ left-back for a number of years to come. Ait-Nouri generally tends to do well in home matches, having picked up 1 goal and 4 assists as he averaged 4.7 points ppm at home as compared to 2.6 ppm in away trips

He also has corners and indirect free-kicks on his side too, offering him multiple routes to returns. BPS: 367

Pedro Neto (Midfielder, 5.5m)

Best FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams to consider for 2022/23 season- Pedro Neto

Another to have missed most of last season through injury, Neto can emerge as a key figure for Wolves this term.

Neto scored five goals and supplied eight assists in his last full campaign in Fantasy in 2020/21. His all-round influence that season is reinforced by the statistics. Neto’s 21 shots on target and 61 chances created were both team-leading totals.
