Best £5 & £5.5 Million FPL Midfielders
Pedro Neto
We will start the article with the most talked about and selected 5.5 Million FPL midfielder, Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Pedro Neto.
Priced at 5.5 million, Neto currently is currently in 19.5% of teams. The reason for this is the fact that he is arguably Wolves’ best attacker after Jiminez’s no-show last season and is also their first-choice winger, exempting him from a lot of rotation. He also shares set-piece duties with Moutinho and Ait-Nouri.
While the Portuguese winger did not have the best time last season due to an injury, forcing him to play just 13 games, he looks fresh and ready for the new season. He has featured heavily in the pre-season, scoring thrice and assisting once. (Direct link to all Wolves friendlies summary)
When Wolves play 3-5-2, he has also featured as a forward, making him an out-of-position gem. He also played false 9 against Besiktas when Raul went off injured.
Despite playing only 13 games last season, Neto still had a npxG+xA of 0.5 per 90. He also averaged 3.28 shots and 2.51 key passes per 90. He is also a great crosser of the ball averaging around 4.44 crosses per 90 last season.
Neto also created 4.44 shots creating action per 90 while having 6.18 touches in the opponent penalty box per 90.
Priced at 5.5 million, Neto is not only Wolves’ best FPL asset this season but is also the best 5.5 Million midfielder. However, you should note that he is coming off a major back injury and the Wolves’ attack was quite poor last season.
Neto’s teammate Daniel Podence is also 5.5 Million and has also been in good pre-season form scoring three goals plus an assist, Owned by just 0.4% and could be a differential alternative to Neto from the same team.
Leon Bailey
In our list of midfielders, the next name is Leon Bailey. Priced at only 5 million with favorable fixtures for Villa, Bailey can be one of the surprise packages of the new season.
Bailey has featured in four of Aston Villa’s pre-season friendlies and has scored twice and assisted once. However, in the friendly against Manchester United, he was dropped as Stevie G will play the trio of Coutinho-Ings-Watkins. Although he came in at halftime and scored a goal plus got an assist with Stevie G later praising him(Comment below).
Bailey played 18 games last season, scoring once and assisting twice. He also averaged 2.48 shots per 90, with 0.95 of them on target. He also averaged 2.88 crosses while creating 2.48 shot-creating actions per 90.
He also shares the free kick duties with Coutinho. He took the corner vs Man United which got him an Assist.
Villa have a lot of attacking talent which might not guarantee a spot for Leon Bailey but with Gerrard’s comment and his pre-season form, he can be a good differential.

Pablo Fornals
Priced at just 5.5 million this season, Pablo Fornals can be one of the surprise packages this season. He is a regular starter in this West Ham team and averaged a fantasy return every 251 mins last season.
With Jarod Bowen’s price increasing this season, could Fornals emerge as his cover, especially if West Ham doesn’t sign a new winger/midfielder?
The 26-year-old scored 6 times and assisted thrice in 36 appearances last season. He averaged 1.47 shots and 1.47 key passes per 90 while creating 2.76 shot-creating actions per 90.
He has featured in 5 games in the preseason. West Ham have a favorable run of fixtures at the start of the season, with their only real tough game being the opening fixture against Manchester City.
With ownership of just 2.1%, Fornals can be a huge differential for your team.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall
Last season saw Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall make a name for himself in the Leicester first team playing a total of 28 times for over 2101 minutes. He registered a goal and two assists last season with 0.90 shots per 90 and 1.50 chances created per 90 for an xGI/90 of 0.2. Although not great numbers it’s not bad too, he’s a box-to-box midfielder with the potential for goals and assists. So far in the pre-season, he has registered a Two goals and three assists already. At 5.0 Million he offers good value as an FPL option and is guaranteed of his place in the starting 11.

Miguel Almirón
Almiron is one of the most in-form players in pre-season scoring 6 goals already for Newcastle. He’s not had a great season at Newcastle so far but this season might be the one. There have been no new Right Winger signed so far and going by his pre-season he’s the first-choice RW for Howe at the moment. As covered in our Newcastle preview, our Newcastle correspondent(@FPLJoelinton)tips him to start as well and at 5 Million could offer great value. Do note if a new RW signing comes, Almiron’s place will not be guaranteed and he could be rotated.

Yoane Wissa
The next player on our list is Brentford’s midfielder Yoane Wissa. Currently, Wissa has an ownership of only 0.4%, making him an ultra-differential pick.
Wissa played 1284 minutes last season, scoring seven times and assisting one. He averaged 2.31 shots per 90, with 0.91 of them being on target. He also had 3.72 touches in the opponent penalty box while creating 0.71 chances per 90.
In three games in the pre-season, Wissa has also already scored one goal.
Brentford have a good run of fixtures, and priced at 5.5 million, Wissa can be a good albeit risky pick.

Anthony Gordon
For the next player on the list, we look at Everton midfielder Anthony Gordon. Currently, with an ownership of 2.7%, Gordon can be a good pick for most teams.
In 35 appearances last season, Gordon scored 4 goals and assisted a further 2 as Everton survived relegation. We expect these stats only to grow this season. With Richarlison gone, the creative duties of the team will fall on his shoulders.
Gordon averaged 1.73 shots last season, with about 0.75 of them on target. He also played 2.80 crosses and 2.88 shots creating actions per 90. He is also on set-piece duty, giving him another route through which to score points.
If Calvert-Lewin is fully fit this season, Gordon should see his number of assists increase in number.
It is also important to note that he has featured in both of Everton’s pre-season games, making him one of the regular starters in this Everton team.
With a low ownership, Gordon can be a good option for teams.

Michael Olise
The next player is also from a London club, the 5.5 million priced Michael Olise. Olise played 26 times for Crystal Palace last season, scoring twice and assisting a further five.
Whenever on the pitch, he was directly involved in 44% of Crystal Palace’s goals. Olise averaged 0.79 shots on target from 1.50 shots per 90. He also played 2.13 passes and 0.63 crosses into the penalty box per 90.
Olise also shares the free-kick and corner duty at Crystal Palace and averaged 3.79 crosses per 90.
Olise however is yet to feature in the pre-season and, as of right now, doesn’t have his place cemented in the team. Despite being ranked at 5.5, he is a wait-and-watch.
Fellow Palace 5.5 Mids Eze(2 goals in pre-season) and Ayew(goal, assist in pre-season) could also be decent options to consider from Palace.

Demarai Gray
The 26-year-old Gray had five goals and four assists last season and scored 106 points in fpl. Priced at just 5.5 million, Gray can be a decent buy if he increases his attacking output and continues getting gametime.
With Richarlison gone, Gray will not have much competition for the LW spot and should be able to nail it down. He had limited minutes in the second half of last season and saw his attacking contribution drop.
He took 2.5 shots per 90 (0.6 on target) and had a npxG+xA of 0.34. Out of his 2.5 shots, 1.2 came from inside the box. He also averaged 1.6 key passers, 5 crosses and 0.3 big chances created per 90.
He has also featured in both of Everton’s pre-season games, and at just 1.3% ownership right now, Gray can be a good pick for any team.

Joe Willock
Priced at 5 million this season, the ex-Arsenal player can be a decent pick this season. He has featured in all three of Newcastle’s pre-season games and has also scored 2 goals.
In 29 games last season, Willock only had two goal contributions. However, he did take 1.5 shots per 90 with 0.44 shots on target. He also created 2.03 Shot-Creating Actions per 90 while having 2.91 touches in the opponents’ penalty box.
If Willock can improve his attacking output with just 0.8% ownership, he can be a solid buy.

Other decent £5 & £5.5 Million FPL Midfielders to Consider
- Jacob Ramsey, last season’s standout 4.5 Million midfielder is £5.5 Million this season and offers good value once again.
- Mac Allister could be a decent option from Brighton at 5.5 Million.
- Jordan Ayew is classified as a mid and at 5.5 Million is a decent option to consider from Palace. There’s rotation risk involved though!
- Eze, an exciting Palace youngster could be a 5.5 million punt, although mins are not guaranteed. To go for the Palace budget mids(Olise, Ayew, Eze), the right time would be GW5 when the fixtures ease and we get an idea on who is nailed.
- Billing, guaranteed starter for Bournemouth. Billings is a good option at 5.5 Million from a promoted team to consider. 40 games played in the championship last season, 10 goals, and 10 assists!
