FPL Goalkeepers – Combination I – 5.5 & 4.0
The first combination that we are going to look at is the – a 5.5m premium keeper and a 4.0m bench fodder. This season, there are only three 5.5m options between the post – Alisson, Ederson and Lloris. All of these teams, Liverpool, Man City and Spurs have decent fixtures to begin the season with. Let’s look at some of their 2021/22 stats of these players to analyse this combination:
Alisson | Ederson | Lloris
Saves per 90 | 2.11 | 1.62 | 2.58 |
FPL points per 90 | 4.89 | 4.19 | 4.16 |
Clean Sheets | 20 | 20 | 16 |
Bonus Points | 15 | 4 | 11 |
Baseline BPS per 90 | 14.81 | 12.46 | 13.45 |
Goals conceded per 90 | 0.67 | 0.7 | 1.05 |
Expected goals conceded | 0.97 | 0.77 | 1.17 |
From the above table, we can see that the Man City and Liverpool keepers had a higher number of clean sheets, part of it owing to their strong defence of course. The premium goalkeepers offer a higher possibility of them keeping a clean sheet, rather than giving bonus points and save points owing to their strong defence.
Before this season, these keepers were usually priced at 6.0m. This season, the same keepers getting 0.5m cheaper, FPL managers should strongly consider having a premium goalkeeper in their teams.
Pros
A keeper from such a team finishes the season with a lot more clean sheets as compared to other keepers. Therefore, with such a keeper you can expect more regular and consistent clean sheet points.
Moreover, Alisson, Ederson and Lloris scored the most points in the 2021/22 season.
Cons
One of the major disafvantages of having a keeper from such a team is that it blocks you from having another outfield player from that particular team, limiting you to just 2 outfield players. Moreover, making a keeper transfer is difficult without a wildcard or taking a couple of hits.
They also tend to be lower on the BPS, and save points as these teams do not concede a lot of shots for them to save.
FPL Goalkeepers – Fixture Analysis
Lets look at the opening fixtures of Liverpool, Man City and Spurs to pick between the three:
According to the Fantasy Football Fix Defence ticker, Liverpool gave the best fixture for the first 9 weeks. Manchester City and Spurs have a somewhat difficult run of fixtures as compared to Liverpool. Alisson also had the highest FPL points per 90 minutes last season. He even racked up the highest Bonus points and had the highest Baseline BPS. Therefore, considering 2021/22 season stats and fixtures, Alisson stands out in this category.

FPL Goalkeepers – Combination II – 5.0 & 4.0
The second combination that we will look at is the 5.0m and the 4.0m keepers. We will see a few keepers from the 5.0m bracket to analayse their 2021/22 stats.
De Gea | Mendy | Ramsdale | |
Saves per 90 | 3.37 | 2.15 | 2.65 |
FPL points per 90 | 3.47 | 3.82 | 3.97 |
Clean Sheets / Total appearances | 8 | 14 | 12 |
Bonus Points | 7 | 3 | 14 |
Baseline BPS per 90 | 14.24 | 11.91 | 14.62 |
Goals conceded per 90 | 1.5 | 0.91 | 1.15 |
Expected goals conceded | 1.56 | 1.06 | 1.24 |
As compared to the 5.5m bracket, we can clearly look at the stark difference betweeen the two price points. This bracket albeit have lesser clean sheets, they racked up more save points and a higher baseline BPS.
Pros
This price point lies between the premium and budget categoy. Therefore, allowing managers to have a higher guarantee of clean sheets and save points than the 4.5m keepers.
On a good fixture run, a lot of managers tend to jump on these keepers. Therefore, having them in your GW1 squad gives you the possibility of gaining team value in future Gameweeks.
Cons
The only disadvantage here is that these teams have a lot of cheap defenders / full backs who provide great value in terms of price and flexibility. Also, going 0.5m cheaper could help you invest in premium outfield players this season.
FPL Goalkeepers – Fixture Analysis
According to the Fantasy Football Fix FDR defence rating, Ramsdale has the best start to the season. He even had the highest FPL points per 90 minutes at 3.97 in the 2021/22 season.

FPL Goalkeepers – Combination III – 4.5 & 4.5
This combination is usually for managers who like to rotate their keepers based on their fixtures. This gives a manager an opportunity to have a favourable fixture for their keeper for a run of 10 to 15 weeks.
Sanchez | Pickford | Guaita
Saves per 90 | 2.73 | 3.34 | 2.85 |
FPL points per 90 | 3.41 | 3.31 | 4.03 |
Clean Sheets / Total appearances | 11 | 7 | 11 |
Bonus Points | 8 | 12 | 11 |
Baseline BPS per 90 | 15.03 | 15.43 | 14.75 |
Goals conceded per 90 | 1.14 | 1.66 | 1.12 |
Expected goals conceded | 1.31 | 1.65 | 1.18 |
This bracket consists of the cheapest playing goalkeepers in the game you can go for. This includes players from mid table and lower table teams.
Pros
Since the defences of such teams tend to be weaker and concede a lot of shots. This helps them keep a lot of sasves and rack up the save points.
Moreover, having such a cheap keeper, reduces the pressure from that spot, as you can play around with the extra funds in your outfield players.
Sanchez and Pickford also have a higher Baseline BPS, giving them a higher potential of gaining more Bonus Points.
Cons
The disadvantage of having to conceding a large volume of shots, naturally leads to conceding goals on a more regular basis.
Also, they are not as reliable for clean sheet points, as you can see from the difference in the stats of 5.5m and 5m keepers.
FPL Goalkeepers – Fixture Analysis
The best combination in this bracket is probably David Raya (Brentford) and Dean Henderson (Nott’m Forest). They have a great fixtures that also rotate perfectly for the first 10-15 gameweeks.
Raya(4.5) and Sanchez(4.5) also rotate really and is an option to consider if you are looking at two 4.5 FPL Goalkeepers.
FPL Goalkeepers – Combination IV – 4.5 & 4.0
The alternative to the previous combination is just picking one 4.5m keeper and sticking with him until you play your Wildcard. This alleviates any concerns regarding the Goalkeeper spot, as you wouldn’t need to worry about benching your keeper’s points and getting every single save points that he makes.
In this, you would want to go with the 4.5m keeper who has the best fixtures to start the season with (like Henderson or Raya or Sanchez as mentioned above).
FPL Goalkeepers – Conclusion
It can be seen that the cheaper keepers tend to be on the higher side of the Bonus Points and lack the clean sheet potential. Therefore, considering all the factors mentioned, could help you decide the combination which suits your team.
