LINE-UPs

Summary for Euro Fantasy Managers:

  • While it was a strong line-up from La Roja, there are changes expected for the main event
  • As good as Gaya(5m) was in the game, Alba (6m) has a greater claim at the LB spot and will certainly start
  • As for the other defensive spots, I think we will see the same guys starting in the main event
  • Enrique may have praised Sarabia’s (6.5m) hard work in the training, I don’t see him making the cut-over D Olmo (7m). He did not have a great outing against Portugal either
  • In the mid-filed, captain S Busquets (5.5m) should start as CDM, with Koke (7m) as one of the CMs in front of him. The 3rd spot is up for grabs in my opinion, with anyone of Thiago (6m), Pedri (6m) and Fabian (6m) having some claim of their own
  • Despite being not clinical poor in front of goal, Morata (9m) and Torres (8m) firmly hold their places for now
  • Portugal missed their star players from Manchester clubs. All four players when match fit should start in their preferred positions.
  • When that happens, only one of Jota/Felix (8.5m) can start. My money would be on the former
  • Ronaldo (12m) started the game as RW who would drift inside However, once B Silva (8.5) is back, we can expect CR7 to take his natural spot
  • It’s up for debates as to who would partner Bruno(10.5m) in the mid-field. Whoever does, it would have negligible impact on our Fantasy game

Match Summary

Playing their first friendly, both Spain and Portugal went with a strong line up (in case of Portugal amongst the player match ready)
Being the most high-profile friendly game yet, I certainly did not predict the domination Spain had in the game. If you did not watch the game, you may find it hard to believe my words, but maybe these stats can help. No prize for guessing which one is Spain.

What Spain lacked was clinicity in front of goal and to some degree the number of chances created should been higher given the possession they had.

Torres (8m) and Morata (9m) were the players most forward, both almost equally involved in all goal threatening situations. Its worth noting that, both attackers got 90 minutes of play on the pitch

Elsewhere, the mid-field did well to keep possession of the ball and Spain’s defense was stout. Both fullbacks supported the attack, with M Llorente’s (5m) passing being more direct.

Portugal relied on counter-attack for the whole game, where they could hardly string together more than 5 passes in continuation.

With all the big names from City and United coming back, the performance level would certainly go up, however, it won’t be harsh to say they played very poorly considering the talent they still managed to start

Italy vs Czech Republic

Italy 4 – 0 Czech Republic

Goals – Immobile 23’, Barella 42’, Insigne 66’ and Berardi 73’
– Assists – Immobile 66’ and Insigne 73

Summary for Euro Fantasy Managers:

  • Italy started with what could be their starting 11 against Turkey in the event opener except a few spots
  • With M Verratti (6.5m) still recuperating, Locatelli (5.5m) looks set to start
  • Mancini went with Berardi (6m) in the game, but the player faces a strong competition in F Chiesa (7m). Though, Berardi being left footed may just tip the balance in his favor
  • The LB spot is the most uncertain spot in Italy starting 11. Mancini started Spinazzola (5.5m) and brought on Emerson (5.5m) with ~30 minutes to go. While the later hasn’t played any club football this past season, it has never stopped Mancini to go for him in the previous games
  • The key takeaway – Mancini did not make any change until 63rd minute. Take it with a pinch of salt, but that says a lot about what can e expected
  • Šilhavý the Czech Republic coach, said this before the match on their line-up “With regards Schick and Souček, we wanted to share the load among other players. Both should come on at half-time
  • The statement tells you the mind set of the coach right now. With one final friendly to come, we are yet to see a line-up that should start the EUROs.

Match Summary

Playing their final friendly before the main event, Italy put out a strong starting 11 against Czech Republic, who sought to rest some of their regulars. The Azzurri’s were in full control of the game, playing free flowing football and attacking swagger.

Ciro Immobile (10m) and Nico Barella (7m) saw their respective shots deflected into the goal in the first half. That is not to say they did not deserve the goals. The Italians played with intent to kill, and it was only matter of time the goals came regardless of the measure.

The mid-field trio of Berella, Jorginho (6m) and Locatelli (5.5m), suffocated the opponent and released balls to their attackers at every opportunity. While Barella was lucky to score, he was the most forward of the three midfielders and had an outstanding game.

Insigne (8.5m) (read INSANIA) roamed with the ball at will and looked threatening as he ran towards the Czech Republic goal. He should have a fine tournament ahead of him.

Both the fullbacks made forward strides, though it was the left back Spinazzola (5.5m) who was given more freedom to breach opposition territory. Regardless of who starts at LB, it should be a good spot to target in the Azzurr’s defense.

Playing weaker opponents (supposedly) in the group stages, we can expect more of the same from the Italian camp

As for the Czech’s, they had a game to forget. Apart from the first ~20 minutes, they never looked likely to score. Even with introduction of T Soucek (6.5m) and P Schick (8m) the scenario did not change.

They have one more friendly left to built any momentum before playing Scotland

North Macedonia vs Kazakhstan

North Macedonia 4 – 0 Kazakhstan

– Assists – T. Kostadinov 57’, A. Trajkovski 74’,76’
– Pen winner – E Elmas

Summary for Euro Fantasy Managers:

  • V Musliu (4.5m) who started today is expected to be the nailed-on CB. Coach Igor Angelovski likes to rotate his other 2 CBs with no clear certainty on who would play
  • S Ristovski (4m) should start all the games. The only uncertainty would be his position (CB vs RWB). Igor A has played him in both positions previously
  • Restricting to players with Fantasy appeal, Alioski (4.5m), Elmas (6m) and Pandev (6.5m) are all nailed on to start in the positions  they started against Kazakhstan
  • Forward A. Trajkovski (7m) and midfielder E Bardhi (6m) should be back into the starting line-up against Austria

Match Summary

It was the last Audition from the Macedonian side before taking on Austria in the main event. The quality of opposition was questionable and the fact they played with 10 men for 45 minutes should not be forgotten.

Having said that, you can only beat what’s in front of you and NM did exactly that with great style. NM had 63% of possession in the game and fired 11 shots on target.

As in most games, E Alioski (4.5m), Elmas (6m) and Pandev (6.5m) were the key catalysts for their side

Alioski played as LWB and was ever present in and around the 20 yards box whenever NM were in possession. Elmas was another player who impressed me with his flair and quick feet. He took on the defenders at every opportunity and dribbled past them often.

It was his dribbling ability that finally earned a penalty which looked certain to come at some point of the game. Alioski dispatched the penalty coolly into the top right corner.

Without doubt Pandev is the best player in the team, however, the spaces he occupied in the game made him more likely to be an assister of the assist than involved directly in the goal. This exact scenario happened in second goal on the match.

The popular defender S Ristovski (4m) started the game at CB instead of his more natural position at RWB. This is not the first-time Igor Angelovski, has asked him to play CB. Expect Ristovski to switch positions based on opponents.

**M Ristovski (5m) who scored the third goal in a forward

Finalnd vs Estonia

Finalnd 0 – 1 Estonia

Goals – None

Summary for Euro Fantasy Managers:

  • Of the defenders that started the game, Arajuuri (4m) and J Toivio (4m) should keep their places for the EUROs
  • They are likely to be joined by J Uronen (4.5m), D. O’Shaughnessy (4m) and N Alho (5m) (who is listed as Mid in the game)
  • In the midfield we should see the return of captain T Sparv (5.5m) and J Kauko (5.5m) joining G Kamara (6m)
  • In attack, return of T Pukki (7m) is imminent who would most likely be supported by R Lod (5.5m)

Match Summary

Finland have lost all their last three friendlies, two of which were played in last 7 days. They have not had the best preparation for the EUROs, something we should be aware before picking their assets.

The only positive Finland can take from this is T Pukki (7m) played <60 minutes across the 3 games. His return to starting lineup should improve Finland.

They fielded an experimental side against Estonia and failed to make any impression and did not cause any real problems to the Estonian GK with only one goal on target. With some of the regulars to comeback into the lineup, it is hard to make anything concrete of Finland’s performance yet.
