Euro Fantasy Football ~ Best Forwards to Target in your MD1 Team

With few days to go before Italy and Turkey kick start the tournament, its time to look “FORWARD“. Here is our pick for the best forwards to have in your Euro Fantasy team going into Match-day 1

Picking for one Match-day, it was important for us to look both at the fixtures and the probability of starting the game. This limited our options to only 5 players falling either in the Premium (3) or budget range (2)

  • Premium Forwards (10 mil+)
  • Budget Forwards (7.5 mil-)

Euro Fantasy – Best Premium Forwards (10m or more)

1. Cristiano Ronaldo (Price: 12m | TSB 26%)

Ronaldo Euro Fantasy Forward

Fixtures: MD1 – Hungary, MD2 – Germany and MD3 – France

He is one of the two most expensive forwards in the game (the other being a certain French speedster) and deservingly so. It goes without saying that he is the main man in the Portugal team and once again they will be looking up to him to take the trophy home

He plays against Hungary in match-day 1, who are minnows against Portugal in almost every sense of the word!

Ronaldo will be the first name to take the Penalty (sorry Bruno) and free-kicks from goal scoring distances.

To add to that, there has been a slight decline in Ronaldo’s ownership post Portugal’s toothless performance against Spain. While the performance was not Portugal-esque, they were without the creative force of Bernardo Silva (8.5m), Joao Cancelo (6m) and Bruno Fernandes (10.5m), with the latter playing only 30 minutes

When picking for one Matchday, the ceiling does not go any higher!

2. Romelu Lukaku (Price: 11m | TSB 42%)

Lukaku Euro Fantasy Forward

Fixtures: MD1 – Russia, MD2 – Denmark and MD3 – Finland

Belgium are one of the favorites to win the tournament and Lukaku is partly the reasons why. The Inter man has had one of his best season ever, scoring 24 goals and providing 11 assists.

While he only managed one goal in the span of two pre-EURO friendlies, the stats do not tell the whole picture. He looked threatening in both the matches and also hit the post against Croatia.

He plays against Russia, who were anything but good in their last friendly against Bulgaria.

He is nailed on to start the match and the first name to take penalties. With Mertens and (probably) E Hazard as his wing men, he is certain to have some fun against Russia

3. Memphis Depay (Price: 10m | TSB 15%)

Depay Euro Fantasy Forward

Fixtures: MD1 – Ukraine, MD2 – Austria and MD3 – North Macedonia

While there have been questions asked to coach Frank de Boer for his tactics and team set-up, there certainly can be no questions on Depay’s performance.

He came to EUROs in fine form scoring 2 goals and providing 2 assists in three World Cup Qualifiers in March. He added 3 more goals and 2 assists to the tally in just two pre-EURO friendlies against Scotland and Georgia, scoring a direct free-kick and a penalty in the process.

He is nailed to start the match against Ukraine, and looks set to repay his owners faith!

1. Saša Kalajdžić (Price: 7.5m | TSB 1%)

Kalajdzic Euro Fantasy Forward

Fixtures: MD1 – North Macedonia, MD2 – Netherlands and MD3 – Ukraine

With just 1% ownership, the VfB Stuttgart forward is in a prime position to be a differential in Matchday 1. He has started all of the last 5 games for Austria, scoring 3 goals in as many World Cup Qualifiers. He is also coming off the back of a great season scoring 16 goals for Stuttgart.

M Arnautovic (7m) was not in the squad for 4 of their last 5 matches (and restricted to the bench against Slovakia), Kalajdžić is almost certain to start.

Facing North Macedonia in Matchday 1, I would not put a goal involvement past him.

2. Teemu Pukki (Price: 7m | TSB 6%)

Pukki Euro Fantasy Forward

Fixtures: MD1 – Denmark, MD2 – Russia and MD3 – Belgium

With (just) over the 5% ownership, he is not technically a differential. T Pukki, however, can still hurt your rivals big time.

While Finland have not started the EURO preparations well, they were not able to field their strongest side in those matches.

Pukki missed the friendly against Sweden (29/05) and only came as a 60th-minute substitute against Estonia (04/06). With no fitness concerns now, he should start the game against Denmark. While return is not guaranteed at this price point, Denmark is a fixture Finland (and Pukki) would want to come out with something.

Did I mention he scored 26 goals for Norwich in their championship winning season and takes penalties for Finland?
