FPL Gameweek 25 Transfer Tips: Two Players to Buy, Hold & Sell

Gameweek 25 starts a spell of double and blank GWs allowing lots of opportunity, planning and chip usage. GW25 represents a double gameweek for 4 teams and a blank GW for 4 ‘popular’ teams meaning transfers are important. However, the future landscape of fixtures will also be impacted by FA Cup results next weekend which directly impact fixtures in blank GW28 before a huge DGW29. With that in mind, I think its sensible to make transfers targeting whats in front of us first. Check out this excellent piece from AllAboutFPL on Chip Strategy.

I resisted the temptation to try to make ‘differential’ picks and rather opted to suggest picks that are sensible, ‘obvious’ picks given the clarity of picks for the upcoming GW.

FPL Gameweek 25 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY

Mohamed Salah (12.7m, MID, Liverpool)

Nothing too innovative about these transfer suggestions but with a great double gameweek this week, a double in 29 and a slight possibility of playing in BGW28, Liverpool are the team to invest in. However, their defense has still continued to look shaky but they’ve been accumulating xG at a good rate. Salah has 11 shots in his last 4 games at an xG of 0.34 per game – while these numbers don’t immediately standout, his performances are on the up and he looked very threatening in the Champions League game against Real Madrid.

Even though Cody Gakpo is accumulating xG at a higher rate than Salah, Salah being on penalties, more likely to play 180 minutes than Gakpo and being a real captaincy option makes him worth the near 5m price difference.

Darwin Nunez (8.7m, FWD, Liverpool)

Nunez had an xG of 0.32 and xA of 0.22 per game across the last 4 despite reduced minutes. His minutes will likely continue to be under threat from Jota and Firmino but I believe that 2 starts are still likely and he continues to attract xGI at an elite rate when on the pitch. With 2 great fixtures from an attacking POV and FWD spots more easily available then MID ones, Nunez is one of the best transfer targets this week.

FPL Gameweek 25 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD

Kieran Trippier (6.0, DEF, Newcastle United)

With nearly 400k transfers out already, at the time of writing, Trippier is one of the defenders being sacrificed for a gamble on Trent/Robertson or to raise money by moving to the likes of Tarkowski or Kilman. There’s certainly some merit to this decision with a blank followed by Manchester City meaning that at least the immediate short term is rough for the Englishman.

However, I think its a good idea to hold onto Trippier if possible to do so. He has a remarkable 19 key passes in his last 4 games, accumulates bonus points at an impressive rate and logic suggests that managers would want him back if they wildcard in GW28/29 or around that time if using transfers thus losing the 0.4-0.6m in value over this period may not be worth it.

Furthermore, there isnt a bad future for Trippier at all with his dead ball expertise for eg. he had a goal and 6 points the last time he faced City. Hold.

Marcus Rashford (7.3, MID, Manchester United)

Another highly sold asset this week who doesn’t have a fixture, Rashford’s another one I strongly suggest holding onto even at the risk of playing 8-9 players this week. Rashford does blank in GW25 and likely blanks in GW28 with a game against Liverpool in GW26 aiding the argument to temporarily move him on.

However, I believe that the fixture against Liverpool plays to Rashford’s strength and Southampton in GW27 is a plum fixture. He’s been in incredible form since the World Cup matching strong underlying numbers with great output and I think he could do some real damage in the subsequent two GWs; I’d be very wary of selling.

FPL Gameweek 25 Transfer Tips: Two Players to SELL

Aleksandar Mitrovic (6.8, FWD, Fulham)

The Serbian Forward has been dodging points at an absurd rate these past few weeks and he’s a doubt yet again for this weekends fixture. He’s been one of my favourite assets to own on FPL but I think this is as good a time as any to move away from him with high-upside DGW options available to pick from. A sell, for now. Latest on Mitrovic’s fitness-

Kevin De Bruyne (12.4, MID, Manchester City)

Moving to the premium Liverpool assets will mean a need to sell another premium asset to raise the money for it. De Bruyne is the one I’m going for this. A doubt for the weekend due to illness, De Bruyne has been rotated more often than usual off late and City aren’t in their usual attacking groove. De Bruyne also missed the midweek UCL game due illness and is a doubt for GW25 vs Bournemouth. If I had to decide between moving him or another premium like Kane, Haaland or any of the Arsenal assets, I’d be moving De Bruyne.
