FPL Gameweek 38 Transfer Tips: Two Players to Buy, Hold & Sell

After a fairly mixed DGW37, in large part due to the league reaching its conclusion unexpectedly early and teams without much to play for, we’re arriving into the final gameweek of the season. As a gameweek where teams can be ‘dead-ended’, this is essentially where single or multiple one-week punts can be taken without fear of consequences of being stuck with a player. Team leaks and early team news will be vitally important and might dictate transfers so it’s advised to hold onto your moves until closer to the deadline but without that information at the moment, here are our final buy, hold and sell recommendations for Fantasy Premier League!

PS: We had to slightly tinker the 2-2-2 format this week because Saka who was initially a hold selection is now a sell selection because of his injury update which came after the blog was published.

FPL Gameweek 38 Transfer Tips: Three Players to BUY

Eberechi Eze (5.1, MID, Crystal Palace)

FPL Gameweek 38 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY ~ Eberechi Eze

Initially, Dwight McNeil was my pick for this spot but it almost felt wrong going for an Everton winger as a buy recommendation in a week where high-ceiling punts are most palatable. So instead, I’ve opted for Eze. Palace have looked a strong attacking force under Hodgson and Eze has an xG of 0.45 and xA of 0.12 per game in the last 4. He’s coming up against a Forest side who have a poor away record in general and now have nothing to play for with Premier League safety secured. Thus, I expect them to play with their shackles off meaning this might end up being an end-to-end high-scoring encounter and Eze could stand to benefit.

Roberto Firmino (8.0, FWD, Liverpool)

FPL Gameweek 38 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY ~ Roberto Firmino

Bobby Firmino in his last game for Liverpool, we’d expect Jurgen Klopp to give him a start now that Liverpool’s position in the table can’t change on the final day. Southampton have been relegated and have nothing to play for. A goal off the bench for Bobby against Villa last time out, I’d expect him to get a start here and then get subbed off so he can receive a deserved ovation. In between, I’d expect players around him to try to get him his goal.

Martin Ødegaard vs Wolves(H), £6.8m

FPL Gameweek 38 Transfer Tips: Three Players to BUY ~ Martin Ødegaard

Odegaard is the highest-scoring Arsenal asset and the 2nd highest-scoring midfielder in FPL this season. The Arsenal captain will look to end the season strongly against a Wolves side who have already confirmed PL safety. He also has an amazing matchup with Wolves conceding the most chances(30) through the middle and this is where Odegaard operates. He’s an excellent buy this week and has a good haul potential!

FPL Gameweek 38 Captaincy Poll

The metrics had a 30/38 “returns record” last season and so far has a 30/36 “returns record” this season. Do vote in this week’s captaincy poll and this week’s captaincy metrics will be done based on the top five players in the captaincy poll

FPL Gameweek 38 Transfer Tips: Player to HOLD

Jack Grealish (7.1, MID, Manchester City)

FPL Gameweek 38 Transfer Tips: Player to HOLD ~ Jack Grealish

If Guardiola suggests that Grealish is fit for City’s final game of the season, I’d expect a start for him so he can get rhythm before two important finals for City. Likely to be sold off in large numbers after another no-show, this time in a double gameweek, a Grealish start could be rewarding for owners who hold onto the Englishman.

Man city injury update ahead of FPL GW38
Pep’s comment seems positive and a strong City attack with Grealish could start vs Brentford to maintain attacking rhythm ahead of two finals

FPL Gameweek 38 Transfer Tips: Three Players to SELL

Bukayo Saka (8.0, MID, Arsenal)

FPL Gameweek 38 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD ~ Bukayo Saka

Arsenal unfortunately couldn’t keep up with the juggernaut that is Manchester City and their title charge has faltered and fallen poorly in recent weeks. With the pressure off, I still foresee Mikel Arteta wanting to end the season strongly with a good result and a positive feeling heading into next season to be able to push again for the title. However, Saka has been suffering from an Achilles problem and it is expected that he’ll miss the game to recover.

Saka injury update

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Mikel said: “We’ve had some issues this week – well, in the last few weeks – as you’ve noticed, some players were unable to play and to participate in the games, with Reiss. We have a little issue with Bukayo, which has been going on, and with Leo.

Alexander Isak (6.9, FWD, Newcastle United)

FPL Gameweek 38 Transfer Tips: Player to SELL ~ Alexander Isak

I expect Newcastle to beat Chelsea comfortably but given Isak’s peripheral role in recent games, he’s been a frustrating own and there are other exciting one week punts in his place like Firmino, Jesus or even Callum Wilson.

Marcus Rashford (7.2, MID, Manchester United)

FPL Gameweek 38 Transfer Tips: Player to SELL ~ Marcus Rashford

This one’s a bit of a bold recommendation and I’d certainly recommend waiting to see if any early team news comes through. However, with an all-important FA Cup final imminent, I’m not sure Ten Hag will risk Rashford for too many minutes given his recent return from injury, his importance to the side and United having secured Champions League football. While he does have a good fixture on paper and managers might hold onto him, I think there are potentially shrewd gains to be made from moving him on for the likes of Eze, Odegaard, Gibbs-White or even Son.
