FPL GW25 Tips – Preview and Dilemmas Answered

1) Should we play our Free Hit ahead of FPL GW25?

Should we play our Free Hit ahead of FPL GW25?

This question has crossed every FPL manager’s mind this week. With Brighton, Brentford, Newcastle and Man Utd all blanking this week, many managers are left with sub-optimal teams for GW25.

Straight off, if you can field between 8-10 players, even with a -4 or -8, there is merit in saving the Free Hit chip this week. Try to maximise the potential of your playing XI by targeting players from Arsenal and Liverpool. Following this strategy will help you minimise any significant rank losses this week.

We recently got news about the GW29 being a huge double gameweek. On top of that, we already know that Gameweek 28 will be a blank gameweek for some teams. Using the Free Hit may be more beneficial in either of these two gameweeks.

As an exercise, you can make the best possible Free Hit team and compare it with your current team with updated transfers. If you feel the difference is enormous and the potential gains can be massive, take a call and go for it; otherwise, save your Free Hit for a later time.

2) Is it okay to take multiple hits for FPL GW25?

Is it okay to take multiple hits for FPL GW25?

Generally, FPL managers are wary of taking hits. Double gameweeks provide us with an opportunity designed to be more aggressive and maximise the potential for FPL points. GW25 allows us to get players from Liverpool and chase possible hauls from players like Salah, Nunez, Trent etc.

It’s worth taking a hit if you are trying to get in Mohamed Salah. The Liverpool attacker has excellent potential this week and has shown signs of improvement in recent games. He is the only Liverpool attacker expected to play close to 90 minutes in both matches in GW25 and represents great captaincy potential.

The situation gets tricky when you hit for players like Trent, Nunez or even Gakpo. Liverpool’s defence is quite leaky at the moment. Despite keeping two clean sheets in the last two games in the league, I won’t be surprised if they struggle defensively. Taking a hit to remove a blank gameweek player like Shaw still makes sense, as there are chances of huge gains

Talking about Nunez and Gakpo now, though I expect both to start, there is possible rotation on the cards. Jota and Firmino came on around 60 minutes in the Champions League defeat against Real Madrid. A similar situation can occur in GW25. It depends on how confident you are off Nunez and Gakpo getting attacking returns despite the minute’s risk. I am optimistic and considering getting Nunez for a -4 this week.

On the other hand, if these hits were for players from Everton and Wolves, it might not be worth it, especially in the short run. FPL options from both teams have a lower points ceiling. Unless it is to facilitate any Liverpool/Arsenal players this week, I won’t go out of my way to take hits for players from Everton and Wolves.

It is risky, but you won’t get any advantage if you don’t put yourself in a position to get lucky.

3) Which Liverpool players to get for FPL GW25?

Which Liverpool players to get for FPL GW25?

Liverpool has two enticing fixtures in GW25 against Crystal Palace and Wolves. Many FPL managers want to get Liverpool players and take advantage of the double gameweek.

If you want to play safe, getting in Mohamed Salah is the first thing to do. He is Liverpool’s leading man in attack and is also on penalties. Salah’s form has improved slightly with 2G+2A in the last 3 games in all competitions. Regarding the opposition, he is playing against Palace & Wolves, who have conceded maximum chances from their left flank & have been in the ‘Bottom 5’ for xGC since the FPL restart. (GW17 onwards)

Then you come to how much do want to attack Liverpool’s double this week. Getting Trent/Robertson, and Nunez without making major tweaks will be difficult. And between both options, I prefer the forward Darwin Nunez. The Liverpool striker scored against Newcastle and Real Madrid and accumulated some decent xG. Despite the rotation risk with Firmino and Jota, he is an explosive option for GW25.

If the Nunez rotation situation bothers you, you can get Trent Alaendaer-Arnold instead. The Liverpool defender looks like a nailed pick, and despite Liverpool’s defensive form, he can give you a decent haul this week. Trent’s attacking display has shown improvement as well. Over the last two matches, he has created ‘2 Big Chances’ and had an ‘xA of 0.92’. He also had ‘5 Key Passes’ in the same time frame, which is quite encouraging.

I will only look at Robertson if getting Trent is impossible because of budget constraints. It’s better to avoid players like Gomez, as he may not start both games, and Van Dijk doesn’t have the same attacking potential as the Liverpool fullbacks.

Gakpo is another one to avoid. There are question marks about his minutes, and his underlying numbers aren’t as good as Nunez’s. There are alternatives like Saka and Odegaard, who are more nailed and better picks than Gakpo in midfield.

4) What to do with Man United players Going into Gameweek 25?

What to do with Man United players for FPL GW25?

Man United players (i.e. Shaw and Fernandes) are worth selling for Double Gameweek players this week. Shaw and Fernandes don’t have a game in GW25, and one can make potential gains by replacing them.

Let’s say you don’t have an Arsenal/Liverpool defender. It is viable to sell Shaw if you are trying to get to a playing XI this week. Trippier is also blanking this week, and out of both picks, he may be the one to keep on your bench.

Bruno Fernandes is a tricky one. He has been in great form, but if he is your route to move towards a Saka or even Salah, you should sell him this week. You can always get him back on a Wildcard in GW27 or even get him back for Man United’s double in GW29 against Newcastle and Brentford.

Rashford is the only Man Utd player worth holding this week. He has been in great form for Man United and can do well against Liverpool in GW26 and Southampton in GW27 before a potential blank in GW28. He is at that sort of a price range where you can easily bench him unless you don’t have both Saka and Odegaard in your team.

5) Who are the best forwards to get into your FPL team?

Who are the best forwards to get into your FPL team?

The assumption is that we are talking about the other two forward spots, as Erling Haaland will occupy one from Man City. We have Liverpool and Arsenal having a double gameweek this week, and both have a forward we can target.

Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah has missed so many chances in the past few games & owners can find themselves highly unlucky. He could have easily had 2 attacking returns in the last game, as he racked up the highest xG among all players in GW24. I expect him to do well this week and add to his goal tally. Minutes are also not an issue with him, as Gabriel Jesus is still at least a few weeks away from making the team before he starts playing more regularly.

Then we have Darwin Nunez, who falls behind Nketiah because his expected minutes are lower than the Arsenal forward. Nevertheless, he is still a good option with high attacking potential. It is worth getting in Nunez, even for Harry Kane, who has been consistent throughout the season. Kane is a safe, dependable option, but Nunez can provide the required rank gains

You can even look at Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa if you don’t trust Nunez. This week, he is a significant differential forward option, scoring 4 goals in his last 4 games. He has a suitable fixture against Everton this week. Also, he sets you up nicely for the long run with a confirmed fixture in GW28 and a decent double in GW29.

That will be all from my side for this week! All the best for Gameweek 25, and I will see you next week.
