Best Midfielders to Consider for FPL GW17 | Price Point Wise
Let’s dive right into it. We will start with the premium options first.
Best Premium Midfielders Options for FPL GW17 (>9m)
Kevin De Bruyne (Man City – £12.6m)
Kevin De Bruyne didn’t have the best of the World Cups with the Belgian team, but he will be raring to go for Man City from GW17 onwards. He is the second-highest-scoring midfielder in the game, just three points behind Almiron.
Talking about his returns, he already has 13 (3G+10A) attacking returns this season. In terms of minutes, too, he has the most among all outfield players for Man City, and I expect that to continue.
If you are looking to go to Darwin instead of Salah as your Liverpool attacking cover and are convinced of the value KDB can provide, he is an excellent premium midfielder to have in the team.
Mohamed Salah (Liverpool – £12.8m)
Mohamed Salah has had a topsy-turvy campaign so far this season. He started the 2022/23 season slowly, with only two goals and four assists from the first ten games. These are acceptable returns but considering Salah started the season as a £13m player; this looks a bit underwhelming.
Whatever we say, he is still 3rd among all MIDs and 7th overall for FPL points with ten attacking returns (6G+4A). With injuries to Jota and Diaz, a lot of the attacking play is expected to go through him and Nunez. Salah is a gamble worth taking. Salah has also improved attacking numbers from the last 8 GWs compared to the first 8 GWs which is discussed in detail here.
Bruno Fernandes (Man United – £9.8m)
The Portuguese attacker was excellent for Portugal in the World Cup despite the team going out in the Quarter-Finals. His confidence will be high, and with Ronaldo gone, he is expected to become Manchester United’s focal point in attack. That is a huge plus, given his impressive chance creation and overall creativity stats. Plus, he is most likely on penalties in Ronaldo’s absence.
The only issue with Bruno is his price point. He falls between someone like a Saka and players like KDB and Salah, and it becomes tricky to own him. Either you let go of KDB and Salah, look for their cheaper alternatives (Foden/Darwin as options) and then get in Bruno. Or you can fit Bruno with one of Salah/KDB and make downgrades elsewhere on the pitch.
It’s a risk, but if you are confident that Fernandes and Man United together will turn things up fantasy-wise, definitely go for him. He is a great differential to target much earlier than other managers.

Best Mid-Range Midfielder Options for FPL GW17(£6-8.5m)
There are various options to look at in the mid-range midfielder category.
First, we have the ‘8m midfielder options’. From these, Maddison, Foden and Saka have done well when we look at total FPL points.
If you go with Salah as your premium option in midfield, Foden (£8.3m) becomes an excellent Man City cover. One thing to note is that he got benched continuously by Pep when there were no injury concerns or any requirement for a rest. It will be interesting to see if he starts the upcoming games. If you are looking at a much more nailed Man City option, there is KDB, but he comes at a much more expensive price point.
You have Saka (£8m) and Maddison (£8.2m) as options for alternatives in the same price range. Leicester has slightly better fixtures than Arsenal, so the temptation to go for Maddison is understandable. He has been the standout player in attack for Leicester and will continue to be the talisman in their attack. He is also much less owned than Saka, so if you are willing to go in a different direction, he is the player to get into your team.
Talking about Saka, he was one of the better players for England at the FIFA World Cup 2022. With Jesus injured for the slightly longer term, he will likely lead the Arsenal attack with Martinelli. Getting him in can still be very rewarding.
If you are looking at a differential among the £8m MIDs, Kulusevski (4.7% ownership) from Tottenham is an interesting shout. With Richarlison injured, Kulusevski will get guaranteed minutes. He has also been in decent form, scoring a goal and providing two assists against Motherwell in Tottenham’s recent friendly match.

Coming to slightly cheaper options, we start with Gabriel Martinelli (£6.8m) from Arsenal, who has been one of the best budget enablers this season. His performances and overall numbers have been elite, and it’s risky not to have him in your FPL team for Gameweek 17. Almost 50% of FPL managers own him, and this is a position you might not want to go against the crowd.
Let us say you already have Martinelli fixed in your team and are looking for other cheaper MIDs. You have many players who look like great value and deserve mention.
If you are still looking at premium teams, Rashford (£6.7m) from Man United is one name that comes out on top. The United attacker like Foden and Saka had a decent World Cup and is most likely to get into many managers’ FPL teams before the deadline. With Martial fit, Rashford is most likely to play wide and has good underlying stats, especially considering his price. (£6.7m)
Looking at non-premium teams, under De Zerbi, Leandro Trossard (£7.1m) from Brighton ranks second among FPL midfielders for both shots in the box and big chances. He is a sure-shot starter in the Brighton attack and is on 77 points for the 2022/23 season. With a kind run of fixtures coming up, he is one of the best options if you are okay going for a midfielder, not playing for a ‘Top 6’ team.
For maverick managers, one option to look at is Rodrigo (£6.3m) from Leeds. He might not be an option from GW17 straightway, but fixtures from GW19 look good. Rodrigo is worth a shout if you want to gain rank or close in on your mini-league rivals. Before PL went on the World Cup break, he managed to get five goals in his last four matches and currently sits joint 5th highest for points scored among all MIDs this season.

FPL GW17 Best Budget Midfielder Options (£4.5-6m)
We have the final Midfielder category as budget options. The standout pick is Almiron from Newcastle. He is slightly in the higher range (£5.8m). Still, he has been brilliant value getting ten attacking returns and becoming the highest-scoring player among all MIDs this season. He is a pivotal part of the Newcastle attack and the best attacking option among all their midfielders.
Suppose you own Almiron or want to downgrade to an even cheaper option. In that case, Andreas Pereira (£4.6m) is the one to consider. He has been the most creative player for Fulham getting five assists. We know that he is on set pieces which are good bonus points. Fulham has a double gameweek coming in GW19, so you can play him then and even in matches that are good for attacking returns.
In case you don’t have enough money for a Pereira. In that case, you can look at Summerville from Leeds as an alternative. He is priced at only £4.4m and was getting regular game time for Leeds before the World Cup break. Five attacking returns (4G+1A) in the last four matches sounds too good to be true for such a cheap option. Also, you are not leaving much money on the bench at that price point and can maximise your playing XI potential.
