Best Mid-Priced Defenders To Target For The 2021/2022 FPL Season

FPL Managers are always seeking attack-minded fullbacks whom are bombing down their opposition’s sides. No surprises if you realized that your mid-priced may outscore your premium midfielder/forward and this genuinely tells us about the value that these types of defenders bring into our FPL teams for the 2021/22 FPL Season.

Check out our Best Premium Defenders To Target For The 2021/22 FPL Season incase you haven’t already. Here is a link to all our FPL Defenders blog for your reference.

Our Defenders analysis continues as we are going to dig into the mid-price defenders [£5.0 – £5.5 Mil]

1. Aaron Cresswell (£5.5)

On the Mid-priced scale defenders, Cresswell sits top of this category and overall the 3rd best scoring defender (153 points ) after Liverpool Duo Andrew Robertson (161) Alexander-Arnold (160). The English LB had 11 assists (1st) while creating 58 Chances (4th) and 12 Big chances created (2nd) put him 6th on expected goal involvement xGi.

Cresswell could continue his great threat potential as he is on some set pieces which he had last season from 87 corners. Westham are facing Newcastle United (A), Crystal Palace (H), Southampton (a), and Brentford (H) in their first seven matches which puts Aaron Cresswell a strong choice contender to start the 2021/22 FPL season in our teams.

2. Luke Shaw (£5.5)

Luke Shaw had an outstanding performance as we all witnessed his quality and his major attacking threats either in the Premier League and during the Euros2020.

Per only 30 starts, Shaw managed to secure 10 clean sheets with 6 goal involvements (1 Goal + 5 Assists)
The LB also created 72 chances (2nd) and 7 big chances (7th) while had 66 penalty touches (6th) and came 3rd on the most defenders took corners (97) which potentially put him on the assisting radar.

Manchester united are facing Leeds United (H), Southampton (A), Wolverhampton (A), Newcastle United (H), Aston Villa (H) and Everton (H) during their first 7 matches which potentially could be Shaw’s fixtures in terms of defense and attacking returns.

3. Lucas Digne (£5.5)

With only 30 Appearances across the last season, Lucas Digne had the attacking returns that every FPL manager is looking for as he managed to provide 9 assists (2nd joint highest with Coufal & Robertson), created 44 chances (6th) and had 11 big chances created ( 3rd joint with Robertson ). The French LB took 44 corners and is on some set pieces (9) as well .

With the signing of Demarai Gray, I can see Everton Left Flank should create some threats via this side where Gray is supposed to cut inside and Digne stretches away to make the crosses

Everton facing Southampton (H), Brighton(A), Burnley(H), Norwich (H), West Ham (H) and Watford(H) in their first nine games i can easily see Digne as Must-Have asset to start the season in your team.

4. John Stones (£5.5)

Despite being playing as a CB with no much attacking threats, John Stones scored 4 goals and secured 14 clean sheets out of 19 for Man City he just started in 22 matches.

Stones had 15 goal attempts (11 from inside the box ) including 7 headed attempts which could be a major thread from corners and set pieces.

The Citizens are facing Norwich (H), Arsenal (H), Southampton (H), Burnley(H), Brighton (A) and Crystal Palace(H) in the first ten Gameweeks which I hardly not seeing Stones and his team mates grabbing at least 4 clean sheets in these fixtures.

5. Lewis Dunk (£5.0)

Post the recent bad news regarding missing Tariq Lamptey (£4.5) the first few opening weeks, FPL managers begun to direct the lens on other Brighton defenders and of course Dunk is on the top of this list.

Lewis Dunk scored 5 goals and had 11 cleansheets in 33 appearances the last season.
Coming to the goal threat, Dunk had 26 attempts inside the box (2nd) and 5 big chances (2nd Joint) . He also came 2nd in the headed attempts (22) after Harry Maguire (29) and provided 30 goal attempts from set pieces (2nd).

The Seagulls are on the top of Fantasy Football Scout Season Ticker for defence in the firts six game weeks when they face: Burnley(A), Watford(H), Everton(H), Brentford(A), Leicester(H) and Crystal Palace(A).
