When to Play Your First FPL Wildcard?
We will discuss all the possible windows one by one here.
Gameweek 10 Wildcard:
This is one of the best windows to Wildcard in our opinion due to the fixture swing for plenty of teams.
Teams with good fixture swings from GW10:
- Liverpool(GW10-GW16)
- Villa(GW10-GW12)
- Brighton(GW10-GW16)
- Tottenham(GW9- GW12)
- West Ham(GW10- GW17)
- Manchester United(GW9- GW13)
- Arsenal(GW10- GW15)
- Newcastle(GW10- GW12)
- Crystal Palace(GW11- GW15)
Teams with difficult fixture swings from GW10:
- Manchester City(GW10- GW15)
- Chelsea(GW10- GW15)
- Brentford(GW10- GW13)
Detailed fixture swing analysis from GW9/GW10 covered in this thread below:
FPL GW10 Wildcard
FPL GW10 drafts
This is one of our favorite windows to Wildcard due to the fixtures swings for teams like Arsenal, Brighton, West Ham and also having the opportunity to hit on Differential players.
- Arsenal from GW10 they have great fixtures. Saka along with a second attacker who is a differential(Like Jesus, Martinelli) could come into the picture. A triple-up with a defender in Saliba/Zinchenko is also a good shout.
- Before GW10, Brighton play Man United(A), Liverpool(H), and Man City(A) in 3/4 Gameweeks. But they have a great swing in GW10(see image below). So it might be a good move to sell the likes of Estupinan, and Mitoma right now and get them back for this fixture run where they will be banging in goals.
- West Ham have an excellent run from GW10(one of the best fixtures among all teams) Areola could be your set-and-forget choice keeper on a GW10 Wildcard. Bowen, Soucek, and Ward Prowse could all be good differentials as well.
- If your current team already has 3/4/5 players among Rashford/Bruno/Son/Maddison/Mbeumo- GW10 might be an excellent window to Wildcard.
Check out the below blog for more drafts
GW14 Wildcard
This is another possible window to Wildcard with good fixture swings for Liverpool, Bournemouth, Forest, Burnley, and Chelsea. Villa and Spurs would be the teams to avoid on the GW14 Wildcard due to a difficult fixture for them during this period.
GW19 Wildcard
Pros of GW19 Wildcard:
Remove City/Brentford assets for their blank in GW18 and get them back on GW19 Wildcard. This is because City have good fixtures before their blank and after their blank as seen below. Along with this, they are likely to get the Double Gameweek in GW20. City Triple up for a Double GW vs Sheffield and Brentford at home.
Cons of GW19 Wildcard
GW19 deadline is on Boxing Day (26th Dec Tuesday, 2:00 PM BST). GW18 ends on Saturday(23rd Dec) and the turnaround time is just 2 days. So with Christmas around, this might not be ideal for your Wildcard planning!
GW20 Wildcard
This is the last window to use your first Wildcard. If you have successfully held on till GW20, use it in GW20 with Triple ups from City(Potential DGW20), Arsenal, and Double up from United, Brighton as all these teams have a good fixture swing there. One con is that you can’t triple-captain Haaland for their potential double in GW20 if you wildcard in DGW20
It is too early to discuss about the GW14/GW19/GW20 windows as the landscape might change drastically so we have not analyzed the fixtures in detail. But it is worth keeping in mind that these are the windows if you want to play it later.
Summary:
There are no right or wrong decisions when it comes to FPL. And it applies the same applies to your Wildcard chip as well. It is entirely team dependent and the players who you want for the upcoming weeks but don’t have. We have tried to summarize the potential windows to help in your decision-making. Hope this article was helpful for you!
