FPL Gameweek 29 Transfer Tips: Two Players to Buy, Hold & Sell

After an International break timed just before a GW managers are set up for bench boost, FPL is back this weekend! As is often the case at this time of the season, decision to own and transfer in/out players is dictated by fixtures with some judgement applied to form and point returns through spells of inequal fixtures remaining. We don’t have much in terms of significant injury news from this international break that would shake up the template team for Gameweek 29, at the time of writing this so here’s my Buy, Hold and Sell suggestions this week!

FPL Gameweek 29 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY

Bruno Fernandes (9.6m, MID, Manchester United)

FPL Gameweek 29 Players to Buy- Bruno Fernandes

The potentially highest ceiling pick this GW is Bruno Fernandes, for me, especially for managers planning FH32. Bruno has played in several different roles in recent times including central midfield in Casemiro’s absence as well as part of the front 3 however his ability to generate quality chance creation remains strong irrespective. He’s also on penalties as often works in his favour for point returns. United have a good double GW from an attacking perspective as well as another one in GW34 and a good stretch of fixtures in between with a caveat of a blank in GW32.

Bruno has 11 shots and 14 key passes in his last 4 games and despite the chance of starting in a deeper role than usual, has good chance of returns.

The upside with regards to fixtures remains true for all Manchester United assets so alongside Rashford who’s a must-own and the aforementioned Bruno, Luke Shaw is another great option to round out 3 from the club.

James Maddison (8.2m, MID, Leicester City)

FPL Gameweek 29 Players to Buy- James Maddison

Similar to Bruno, Maddison is an explosive option with the ability to get goals and/or assists and tends to do well with bonus points thus can hit a double-digit haul even with a single goal return. He has a favourable double GW in 29 with a strong fixture run through to GW34. He’s fairly talismanic for Leicester on the pitch and they’re desperate for results to go their way to pull away from the relegation battle.

13 shots and 13 key passes in his last 4 games, Maddison is an outside captaincy contender for me this week and an excellent transfer target to bring in.

Maddison is analysed in detail in our GW29 Differentials article. Do check it out- Top FPL GW29 Differential Picks to Consider Ahead of Deadline

FPL Gameweek 29 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD

Harry Kane (11.8, FWD, Tottenham Hotspur)

FPL Gameweek 29 Players to Hold- Harry Kane

With a 142k transfers out at the time of writing, Kane is the highest transferred out FWD this GW and the third highest transferred out player overall. This is likely due to not having an upcoming DGW and FPL players seeking funds to bring in Bruno Fernandes or beef up their benches ahead of a bench boost. However, Kane’s single fixture this week is against Everton, a club struggling for form and against whom he personally has a good record. He has 4 goals in his last 4 games, very strong underlying numbers and is a potential captaincy favourite in GW31 with a home fixture against Bournemouth. I’m happy to hold him.

Bukayo Saka (8.6, MID, Arsenal)

FPL Gameweek 29 Players to Hold- Bukayo Saka

There remains an argument to sell Arsenal players. They don’t double in GW29 or 34, they have a difficult set of upcoming fixtures and their ‘best’ fixture in the next 5 falls right in GW32 – the prime GW for a Free Hit chip use for most FPL managers. Saka will be against Leeds United at home in GW29 and Leeds are also without their main center back Wober due to injury. Saka also has a brilliant home record.

Saka’s Home Record(Last 6 matches):

  • Goals- 5
  • Assists- 3
  • Big Chance Involvements- 6
  • Expected Goal Involvement- 5.20
  • FPL Points- 56
  • FPL Points/Game- 9.33

By and large, I agree with this viewpoint and I can see the benefit of losing an Arsenal defender and/or Odegaard or Martinelli but I wouldn’t want to sell Bukayo Saka. Arsenal must keep winning in their quest for the title and in difficult fixtures, you’d expect the ‘best’ players to make a difference. Saka has been electric this season and penalties add tremendous value to his appeal. 82k transfers out this GW at the time of writing but I’d urge managers to find other routes to transfer targets of their choice.

FPL Gameweek 29 Transfer Tips: Two Players to SELL

Gabriel (5.2, DEF, Arsenal)

FPL Gameweek 29 Players to Sell- Gabriel

For reasons outlines just prior to this section, when discussing Saka, I think there’s enough reason to sell a 5m+ Arsenal defender like Gabriel (or Saliba/Zinchenko) despite Arsenal’s defense being strong. Their upcoming fixtures are difficult and while one would expect Arsenal to win those games if they are to sustain their title charge, a clean sheet looks less likely especially in a run including chasers City, Liverpool and Chelsea and no imminent double GWs. I think there’s higher upside options worth moving to even for a hit such as Luke Shaw and Ben Chilwell.

Rico Henry (4.6, DEF, Brentford)

FPL Gameweek 29 Players to Sell- Rico Henry

This ones a strange and arguably unhelpful suggestion however having already discussed the merits of moving out certain Arsenal assets, Henry is the pick that was flocked to by engaged FPL managers and is now ripe for moving on despite a DGW. Their upcoming double is pretty hard and doesn’t look good for clean sheets. Toney is a player who is a good sell candidate from next week but despite being 1 yellow card away from a 2 match ban, it’s not advisable to sell him this week.
