With less than 3 weeks to go for the start of the 2021/22 FPL season in this blog we take a look and compare all the premium FPL midfielders (10m and above). There are only 6 options in this category and having 2 premium midfielders would be ideal but some managers would even go for 1 or 3. It all depends on your FPL Team Structure and strategy. They are the main and most reliable captaincy options so let’s take a deeper look at all of them.
Check out our Mid-Priced FPL Midfielders (£7 – £9.5 Mil) Analysis and Comparison Ahead Of 2021/22 Season in case you haven’t already. Here is also a link to all our FPL Midfielders and FPL position-wise player analysis blogs.
Premium FPL Midfielders for the 2021/22 FPL Season in Price Order
- Mohamed Salah – £12.5
- Kevin De Bruyne – £12
- Bruno Fernandes – £12
- Sadio Mane – £12
- Raheem Sterling – £11
- Heung-Min Son – £10
Mohamed Salah – £12.5 ( Liverpool )
Price: £12.5 Appearances: 37(3) ⚽️ 22 goals 🅰️ 6 assists Per 90: 👟 0.96 big chances 🎨0.35 big chances created
Mo Salah!! The highest owned player right now and one of the most consistent over the past 4 seasons. 200+ points in all with one with 300+. He needs no further introduction and is a must-have in my opinion. With 22 goals and 6 assists, he finished last season with a total of 231 points. The Egyptian is a huge threat down that right-wing and in the box.
His 33 big chances rank highest among all mids while 98 shots in the box are the highest among all players. He had the highest goal threat among all premium mids and is on penalties too which gives him an advantage over teammate Sadio Mane. 12 big chances created over the season indicate he has assist potential too. WIth great fixtures to start the season with he should be on fire from the first gameweek itself like he did last time with a hattrick against Leeds. Salah had the highest xG of 21.76 among all players last season.
It is still to be seen how Kloop sets up his side going for his main 433 or including the likes of jota in a 4231 setup. Regardless of that Salah remains the go-to attacking option.

Kevin De Bruyne – £12 ( Manchester City )
Price: £12 Appearances: 25(2) ⚽️ 6 goals 🅰️ 12 assists Per 90: 👟 0.58 big chances 🎨0.9 big chances created
One of the best creative players in the world right now KDB can get an assist from literally anywhere. Providing 3.6 key passes/90 an assist is always on the cards. Often deployed in a false 9 role in big matches De Bruyne never fails to deliver. He finished last season with just 141 points but expect him to score big this time around.
His 0.55xA per 90 is the highest among all players in the game. Decent fixtures to start off the season with but Man City are capable of scoring a few against any opposition. With 0.9 big chances created and 1.71 shots in the box per 90, De Bruyne is capable of getting regular attacking returns. He has the highest xG+xA/90 among all players in this list and should certainly not be ignored.
Norwich and Southampton are great fixtures and City love to play against Arsenal, KDB in particular. Could be a great captaincy option for those weeks and back him to get big returns.

Bruno Fernandes – £12 ( Manchester United )
Price: £12 Appearances: 37(2) ⚽️ 18 goals 🅰️ 14 assists Per 90: 👟 0.58 big chances 🎨0.58 big chances created
Bruno Fernandes has made a big impact since he has arrived in Manchester. Finishing his first full season he ended with 244 points which was the highest among all players. He finished in the top3 for both, goals scored and assists provided. With penalties in his locker and a huge ownership already Bruno should make it to the gw1 squad of a lot of managers.
With and xG/90 of 0.51 and 0.58 big chances/90 Bruno is an attacking threat even though half of his goals (9) were from the penalty spot last season. His 2.75 key passes/90 are only behind KDB in this list and suggest he has great assist potential too. Some easy fixtures in the first few gameweeks indicate he can be off to a flying start once again.
Utd could play a more attacking 433 this season which would decrease the appeal for Bruno but that is still to be seen. He should be a safe and reliable option to start with.

Sadio Mane – £12 ( Liverpool )
Price: £12 Appearances: 35(4) ⚽️ 11 goals 🅰️ 11 assists Per 90: 👟 0.86 big chances 🎨0.35 big chances created
Mane is only sitting in 3.2% of squads right now while his teammate Mo Salah is near the 50% mark. Scoring 176 points he didn’t have a great season but has crossed 200+ in both seasons before that. Not being on penalties is a big factor why managers lean towards Salah but Mane could be a great differential to start the season with. He looked sharp towards the end of last season and should hopefully continue on that level.
His 27 big chances and 81 shots in the box rank 2nd among all mids only behind Salah. Providing 61 key passes over the season he can get some assists too. Manes xG of 0.84 per start compared to 0.94 of Salah shows he is not far behind. Even though it would be a risk to start with him over Salah but a double up on them could be a great option to consider.

Raheem Sterling – £11 ( Manchester City )
Price: £11 Appearances: 31(3) ⚽️ 10 goals 🅰️ 9 assists Per 90: 👟 0.71 big chances 🎨0.32 big chances created
Sterling is surely a forgotten option among FPL mids as he didn’t have a great season last time. Rotation risk and not clinical in front of the goal he only managed to get 154 points. Still priced at 11m based on his potential sterling is slightly on the expensive side but with 200+ points in 3 seasons before that, he has the capability to fire again.
Sterling had 20 big chances last season which was 5th highest among all mids. If he can be a bit more clinical the points would surely follow. With 247 touches and 58 shots in the box which ranked 3rd highest among mids after Salah and Mane. Now that Aguero is gone he is expected to be the main attacking threat and could have a big season.

Heung-Min Son – £10 ( Spurs )
Price: £10 Appearances: 37(1) ⚽️ 17 goals 🅰️ 11 assists Per 90: 👟 0.66 big chances 🎨0.4 big chances created
With 17 goals and 11 assists, Son was superb last season. Scoring a massive 228 points he was 4th overall and 3rd highest among mids. Priced at 10m for a player with those numbers feels a bit underpriced but with Kane potentially leaving it would impact him as both of them combined for 15 goals last season.
Son had 23 big chances and created 14 big chances last season and could play a more central role this time. His 75 key passes and 35 shots in the box rank 5th highest among mids. Playing centrally he could get more big chances and could offer a great value this season too but it is still to be seen how Spurs set up from a tactical point of view.

Comparing some KEY STATS for these premium FPL Midfielders
👟 BIG CHANCES/90 + 🎨 BIG CHANCES CREATED/90 ~ Premium FPL Midfielders Comparison
Salah has the highest big chances while KDB is far ahead in terms of big chances created/90. Bruno has the same big chances as KDB but has far less bcc/90 which is a point to note. Son offers good value too and could be a potential option.

SHOTS IN THE BOX/90 ~ Premium FPL Midfielders Comparison
Salah leading the charts once again with 2.86 Sib/90 with his teammate Mane behind with 2.59. If Sterling can be a bit more clinical he could be in the goals regularly too. Meanwhile, Son and Fernandes are far behind the leaders just managing 1.27 and 1.39 shots respectively.
TOUCHES IN THE BOX/90 + PASSES INTO BOX/90 ~ Premium FPL Midfielders Comparison
Salah, Mane, and Sterling have great goal threat as they average more than 8 touches in the box per/90. On the other hand, De Bruyne and Bruno have great assist potential with averaging more than 10 and 8 passes in the box/90 respectively. Safe to say Son was extremely clinical and took every chance that came his way with those numbers as he was only the 4th player and 3rd mid to score 200+ points apart from Salah and Bruno.
⚽️ xG/90 +🅰️ xA/90 Premium FPL Midfielders Comparison
With the highest goals among mids and 2nd highest overall last season, Mo Salah leads the way once again. He was the second-highest goal scorer last season (22) while Bruno finished as the 3rd highest with 18. De Bruyne has the highest xA and xA+xG/90 and if he remains fit he could match or potentially outscore Salah and Bruno.
PREMIUM FPL MIDFIELDERS COMPARISON TABLE
Final Conclusion and Premium FPL Midfielders Rating ahead of the 2021/22 FPL Season
According to me, Salah is a must-have to start the season with. It’s a difficult decision between De Bruyne and Bruno at the moment while Son is still a one to watch. Mane and sterling should certainly be monitored but it’s tough to include them too with other premiums offering better goal threat.
Salah – 5/5
De Bruyne – 4.5/5
Bruno – 4.5/5
Son – 4/5
Sterling – 3.5/5
Mane – 3.5/5
