Best UCL Budget Goalkeepers (€4.5m and below)

Antonio Adan – Sporting CP – €4.5m

Adan is one of the standout budget goalkeeper picks. He is the first-choice keeper at Sporting and got 20 points last season earning 2 clean sheets. Frankfurt, Spurs, and Marseille are decent fixtures and Sporting could keep some cs in the group stage. Even though their start to the season has not been great there are not many great options in the 4.5m keeper category.

Philipp Kohn – Salzburg – €4.5m

Kohn is a decent pick but has tough fixtures to start the season with. Milan and Chelsea in the first two are not ideal. He could be a great option as the second keeper at just 4.5m with good fixtures in MD’s 3 and 4 for those not planning to play chips early on.

UCL Fantasy Goal Keeper Watchlist:

Both of these options are starting €4.5m keepers and could be options to pick/rotate.

  • Dominik Livaković – Dynamo Zagreb – €4.5m
  • Joe Hart – Celtic – €4.5m
  • Lukáš Hrádecký – Bayer Leverkusen – €4.5m

Best UCL Budget Defenders (€4.5m and below)

Raphael Guerreiro – Dortmund – €4.5m

Best UCL Budget Enablers Defenders ~ Raphael Guerreiro - Dortmund - €4.5m

Guerreiro has had a price drop this season and at 4.5m he could be a great option. Even though Dortmund have been a bit shaky in defence they have the quality at the back. Guerreiro has started all matches so far in the league and scored one goal. With Copenhagen as the first fixture, he could be a decent punt and one to keep at just €4.5m.

Sebastian Coates – Sporting – €4.5m

Best UCL Budget Enablers Defenders ~ Coates

Coates was the third-highest 4.5m scoring defender last season. He scored 2 goals and got 26 balls recovered taking his tally to 37 points. Not a tough group so he can provide great value if Sporting stay solid defensively given that they have not been very solid at the back lately.

Coates stats

Alex Sandro – Juventus – €4.5m

Best UCL Budget Enablers Defenders ~ Alex Sandro

A playing 4.5m defender from Juventus is a steal. Even though Sandro could be a rotation risk at this price it’s worth taking a punt. Juventus has kept 3/4 clean sheets in the league so far and Sandro has started 3 of those games. After the PSG opening fixture Juventus face Benfica and Haifa in the next 4 rounds.

Nuno Tavares – Marseille – €4m

Best UCL Budget Enablers Defenders ~ Nuno Tavares

Moving from Arsenal to Marseille, Tavares is a 4 million budget gem to look out for sure. He has started all league matches so far scoring 3 goals as well. Marseillie have kept 2 clean sheets and only conceded 3 goals in their 5 matches which makes his points potential even higher.

UCL Fantasy Defenders Watchlist –

All these players are worth considering for your UCL Fantasy MD1 squads too.

Nahuel Molina – Atletico – €4.5m

New signing for Atletico. Playing as RB/Rwb. *Red card suspension in the league going on currently.

Nicolas Otamendi – Benfica – €4.5m

5th highest scoring defender last season with 55 points. 63 ball recoveries. Haifa MD1. Juventus + PSG MD2-5.

Devyne Rensch – Ajax – €4.5m

1 goal and 1 assist in 4 games this season. Right back.

Calvin Bassey – Ajax – €4m

Started the last two games at CB. 4M price. Bassey has slowly settled into the Ajax defense having started both of the last 2 league games against Sparta Rotterdam and Ulretch and getting 2 clean sheets. He was signed by Ajax for a club record of around 20 million from Rangers during the summer.

Best UCL Budget Midfielders (€6m and below)

Fabinho – Liverpool – €6m

Ball Recoveries can be a good point-scoring area for players and especially for CDMs. Fabinho got 73 recoveries last season which came down to 21 points. His 46 points scored were the second most among players below 6m only behind Jorginho. At 6m there are not many options that are set to return points every week.

Best UCL Budget Enablers Midfielders ~ Fabinho

David Raum – Leipzig – €5m

Moved to Leipzig this summer Raum has been playing as a LWB/LB and started all 5 games so far with 1 assist. At 5m he could be a cheap option keep with some attacking potential as he got 3 goals and 13 assists in the league last season at Hoffenheim.

Mid Watchlist –

Florentino – Benfica – €4.5m

Starting 4.5M player. Benfica have won 4/4 games in the league this season and 4.5 mid Florentino Luis has started all the 4 games. He is a defensive midfielder so don’t expect goals, or assists from him. He will be good for points for Ball recoveries and is a good budget enabler.

Jorginho – Chelsea – €5.5m

A cheap option to get. Scored 50 points last season and is currently at 28% ownership. Faces Dynamo Zagreb and Salzburg in the first two. He made 36 ball recoveries last season which earned him 9 points(3 ball recoveries fetch a point in UCL Fantasy), Jorginho is also on penalties and we could see the Chelsea lineup before the matchday one deadline which is an added bonus.

Best UCL Budget Forwards(€6m and below)

Benjamin Šeško – Salzburg – €6m

Best UCL Budget Enablers Forwards ~ Sesko

Sesko has started 5/6 games in the league so far scoring twice and providing one assist. At 6m he could be a good budget enabler in order to have some more premiums. Salzburg are an exciting young team and expect Sesko to get a few attacking returns in the group stage. Milan and Chelsea are not the best opening fixtures but at this price he is the best option.

Brian Brobbey – Ajax – €5.5m

Best UCL Budget Enablers Midfielders ~ Brobbey

The 20-year-old Dutch striker could be the bargain of the lot. Brobbey has started the last 3 matches in the league and has bagged 2 goals and 2 assists this season so far. At 5.5m he could be a potential steal but his minutes are something to monitor. He has been subbed off in all of the last 3 matches and seeing him play the full 90 minutes is unlikely. Despite this, I think he is a good option as Ajax play Rangers at home to start the season.
