GW 26 Review & DGW 27 Plans

Points: 99 points (-4 points) + GW rank: 695k (updated 05.03.21 with final scores and screenshots now)

*My screenshots in the article have now been updated with the final scores and OR updates. I managed to beat my 10th cup (opponent 95 vs 78 points). I now sit at my highest OR of the season at 120k.

The GW is not over yet but I wanted to get this article out. I know we are all pondering our next moves in preparation for the fourth consecutive DGW. I will update the article again on Friday (05.03.21) with my final points total and OR.

I’m currently leading vs my 10th cup opponent (82 vs 66 points). It will all come down to the wire this evening with his Triple Captain Salah vs my TC Kane. I am really pleased with Johnstone (10 points) Dias (12 points), Konsa (9 points) and Son (11 points).

I did not deserve the Johnstone clean sheet, due to completely incompetent referring. Sadly this level of refereeing has become the norm in the English Premier League these days. On this note, I have been baited into a dare as per my below tweet.

In the end, my dilemma of benching one of Raphinha or Bamford came to nothing as both of them blanked. The biggest disappointments so far were Cancelo (2 points), Raphinha (2 points) and Salah (3 points vs SHU). At least Salah still has some hope of improving his points this evening vs Chelsea.

I am obviously pleased that my TC has not blanked but I would hope for at least one more return from Kane vs Fulham this evening. Either way, I’m just happy to have captain returns in three GWs in a row now.

If you have been following the last few articles, you will know that I had captaincy blanks from DGW 19 through to GW 23.

My overall rank improved from 156k to 120k.

Overall Rank going into FPL DGW 27

I am now 7 points away from the Top 100k (a personal goal I strive for every season).

Feeling confident of achieving this by the end of the season but the all elusive consecutive Top 10k finish is looking difficult to achieve whilst I am still 80 points behind! Perhaps a more realistic stretch target for the season is the Top 50k (33 points behind right now).

FPL Double Gameweek 27 (28/30?) and Blank Gameweeks (29 & 33)

DGW26 is still ongoing with the three Thursday night fixtures yet to be played. There will be 1 extra fixture in DGW27 with Manchester City vs Southampton.

You can track the upcoming 7 GWs in this long-term view from Ben Crellin – DGW26 is obviously almost over. It includes potential DGW 28 fixtures for both Aston Villa and Everton. If this does not happen in GW 28, it could alternatively form a DGW 30 instead.

Tottenham will also get either a DGW32 or DGW37 depending on the outcome of the FA Cup Quarter Final game between Manchester City and Everton.

Some thoughts about this plus my chip strategy for DGW27 + BGW29 & BGW33

  • Last GW I did Ings to Kane and Mee to Konsa for a -4 point hit.
  • This GW I have started both Raphinha and Bamford ahead of Watkins in my bus team. I may still put Watkins into the XI, ahead of Bamford, closer to the deadline.
  • I’m also starting Konsa over Coufal or Dallas in the bus team.
  • I will be captaining Gundogan, Dias or Kane unless I take a -4 hit to buy De Bruyne.
  • I intend on using the majority of my FTs between DGW 27 and BGW 29 on players from teams who do not blank in BGW 29 (I used FH in BGW 18 and BB in DGW 19).
  • My second Wildcard being triggered around GW 31 to prepare for the final stretch of the season.
  • Teams who I have players for in BGW29 have decent fixtures in GW30 so it makes holding the WC till GW 31 easier.
  • I do regret not activating the TC chip on Gundogan in DGW 24. Here’s hoping that Kane can do the business this evening vs Fulham.

I believe there isn’t a one size fits all answer for the next set of BGWs and DGWs. It will predominantly depend on if you still have your FH, BB, TC and second Wildcard handy.

Captain for FPL DGW 27

I would like to captain a Manchester City player for their fixtures vs Manchester United and Southampton. Here is a great record of all the minutes for the Man City squad including cup games.

I can confidently say that no matter who we captain, there is a high chance they only start one of the two games. If this bothers you, then I would look for a single GW captain such as Kane or Son vs Crystal Palace. I also really like Antonio vs Leeds.

My original plan was to take a -4 point hit to downgrade Cancelo and change Bruno Fernandes into De Bruyne for the armband. Since then, De Bruyne has played 90 minutes in back to back games. Gundogan only came on for 8 minutes vs Wolves (and got an assist for his owners).

This has me second-guessing whether I need to go through with my original plan when I could just captain Gundogan. If I want the security of starts, I could even go with Dias a captain. I believe Gundogan will easily be over 100% EO once the dust has settled, with many managers not being willing to sell one of Bruno or Salah to get to a more premium Man City midfielder.

Looking at Legomane’s chart above, Gundogan has not been on the bench for two out of three games. I would expect him to start both these matches and potentially be benched vs Fulham in GW28. However, we all know trying to predict Pep Roulette is like playing with fire!

I am going to be waiting till as close to the deadline as possible before deciding on whether I take the hit for KDB and whether I move the captaincy armband off Gundogan in my current bus team.

I’ve included the Opta Stats from Fantasy Football Hub for Gundogan, De Bruyne, Dias and Kane. In case you wanted to have a look at the three DGW players I like the most for captaincy this week.

Gundogan is my current bus team captain as things stand.

The FFH Predicted Points Tool has Gundogan on 7.8 points in DGW 27

FFH Predicted Points Tool has KDB on 9.7 points in DGW 27.

The FFH Predicted Points Tool has Dias on 8.3 points in DGW 27.

The FFH Predicted Points Tool has Kane on 5.8 points in DGW 27.

Updated Watchlist for FPL DGW 27:

(Bold names are new this week)

I will maintain an updated Watchlist in this section. I have identified players that I want to buy for my own team. I will also be listing which players are on the chopping blocks in favour of these players on the watchlist.

Goalkeepers: Martinez, Areola

Out-list: Johnstone

Defenders: Targett, Maguire, Digne, Rudiger

Out-list: Cancelo

Midfielders: Aubameyang, Saka, Tierney, De Bruyne, Grealish, Barnes, Maddison

Out-list: Bruno Fernandes

Forwards: CalvertLewin, Werner

Out-list:

Players I’ve removed/added to my Watchlist ahead of FPL DGW 27:

Added

De Bruyne – considering him as a Bruno/ Salah replacement for City’s DGW 27 (if I downgrade Cancelo to free up a City slot)

Aubameyang, Saka, Tierney – all added to to my watchlist for BGW 29 when Arsenal play West Ham.

Removed

Kane – was on my watchlist but I signed him last week.

Konsa – was on my watchlist but I signed him last week.

Son– was on my out-list incase I had downgraded him to Barnes to fund Kane last GW. Instead, quite, fortunately, I did Mee to Konsa for my downgrade to free up funds instead.

Mee – was on my out-list and I sold him for Konsa already last week.

Ings – was on my out-list and I sold him for Kane already last week.

These are the 3 options I am going to decide between:

  1. Save my FT and captain Gundogan, Dias or Kane
  2. Downgrade Cancelo to a 5.1m defender and turn Bruno into KDB for a -4 point hit. Captain KDB.
  3. Gundogan to Foden?!? – okay I admit I have lost the plot a bit at this stage!

Leading up to BGW29:

  1. I may take a punt on Aubameyang in BGW29 by buying him for Salah. I will look to buy Salah back on my WC31 if I do this.
  2. I am waiting to see if we get a DGW28 which would make me consider a Bamford to DCL move for the double and then a transfer back in for Bamford in BGW29.
