Welcome back to the Players to Buy, Hold and Sell series ahead of FPL Double Gameweek 34. There are only five weeks to the end of the season, therefore now the picks will be swayed on short term indicators. Lets see who makes it the Players to Buy list and who I would suggest removing from your teams!
Players to Buy ahead of Gameweek 34
Kai Havertz (7.9m)
The first player to make it to the Players to Buy list ahead of Gameweek 34, is Chelsea’s Kai Havertz. Chelsea have a double gameweek against West Ham and Manchester United, along with another lucrative double in GW36, against Wolves and Leeds.
GW26-29 | GW30-33 | |
Total Minutes | 360 | 165 |
xG/90 | 0.65 | 0.77 |
xA/90 | 0.16 | 0.19 |
Big Chances / 90 | 1.00 | 1.64 |
Total Shots in Box / Total Shots | 9/10 | 6/6 |
Havertz has been playing as a false 9 for the Blues, which suits their system perfectly. Also till GW 31, he started every game, and played 90 minutes. However, due to Champions league fixtures, he was rotated in the previous two gameweeks. Even his underlying numbers show an improvement in his performance over the weeks. His current xG/90(GW30-33) stands at 0.77 with 100% of the shots he has taken, are from inside the box. Since Chelsea have been knocked out of the Champions League, their primary focus now will be on the Premier League (and FA Cup Final) should ensure, their best XI starting every week.

Marcos Alonso (5.5m)
The next player in the list is yet again a Chelsea player. Marcos Alonso has been getting minutes and starting games now for the last 3 weeks. When on pitch, he is surely on many FPL manager’s watchlists. Also, in the 6-0 win against Southampton he scored a goal along with keeping a cleansheet, scoring 13 points that week.
From the heat map, we can also see that as a LWB, he has been making a lot of attacking runs towards the opponent’s final third, with also being on the corner duty. He has taken a total of 6 crosses over these 3 Gameweeks. In the duration of GW31-33, he has posted up great numbers. His xG/90 stands at 0.41 and xA/90 at 0.54. Obviously, the number is a bit high, as its only 3 weeks however, he has proven that if he gets minutes, he does get attacking returns now and then. Moreover, with Reece James getting dropped in 2 weeks, he becomes a more safer option to own ahead of the double gameweek. Therefore, I would suggest him being in your players to bring in ahead of the double gameweek 34

Players to Hold ahead of Gameweek 34
Bukayo Saka (6.8m)
Bukayo Saka is the first name on the Players to Hold list ahead of GW34. He has been a great player to own at the price of 6.8m, this season. His returns have been constants since a long time, thereby making him a reliable asset to own at this price. Arsenal’s performance has also been improving, as we saw in their 4-2 win against Chelsea.
GW26-29 | GW30-33 | |
Total Minutes | 429 | 428 |
xG/90 | 0.31 | 0.38 |
xA/90 | 0.22 | 0.35 |
Big Chances / 90 | 0.00 | 0.42 |
Total Shots in Box / Total Shots | 13 / 18 | 10 / 14 |
There is a marginal increase in his expected goals and assists numbers, and the percentage of shots taken from inside the box. His xA/90 stands at 0.35 between the period of GW 31-33. His Big Chances/90 also witnessed a jump to 0.42. He has been crucial for Arsenal and will surely get minutes every week. With decent fixtures up ahead, until the end of the season, he would not be on my list of players to remove.

Dejan Kulusevski (6.4m)
The next player in the Players to Hold list is Spurs’ mid season signing, Kulusevski. He took the league by storm in the beginning. He marked the onset of Spurs’ good run of form. With him not returning as much as he was earlier, managers are looking at his replacements. However, with the fixtures Spurs have and the form they are in, he is still a decent hold. Spurs face Brentford, Leicester, Burnley and Norwich in their run until the end of the season.
GW26-29 | GW30-33 | |
Total Minutes | 515 | 313 |
xG/90 | 0.28 | 0.08 |
xA/90 | 0.41 | 0.33 |
Big Chances / 90 | 0.35 | 0.00 |
Total Shots in Box / Total Shots | 10 / 13 | 3 / 5 |
His underlying numbers have evidently taken a turn for the worse, with decrease in all of the parameters mentioned in the table. One of the factors for this might be the unreal form, Son is in right now, thereby outshining Kulusevski, and causing him to get lesser scoring chances. All these included, I would suggest holding him, however it depends on the player you are transferring in for him. For example – replacing him with a Chelsea midfielder, ahead of their double seems like a great move on paper.

Players to Sell ahead of Gameweek 34
Fabian Schar (4.4m)
The first player to make it to the Players to Sell list ahead of Gameweek 34 is Newcastle’s defender, Fabian Schar. As their Double Gameweek is over, Newcastle’s remaining fixtures include Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal. Any player would be a sell, with a run like this ahead. Even in the double they were unable to keep a clean sheet against a heavily rotated Leicester side.
GW26-29 | GW30-33 | |
Total Minutes | 540 | 360 |
xG/90 | 0.1 | 0.04 |
xA/90 | 0.12 | 0.04 |
Big Chances / 90 | 0.00 | 0.00 |
Total Shots in Box / Total Shots | 7 / 10 | 0 / 2 |
Although his stats weren’t that attractive, they have still gone down, other than xG/90 which is at 0.04 currently, as compared to the GW26-29 period. There are much better options available right now, which managers could opt for over him. However, if there are other fires to put off in your team, you can use him as a bench player.

Bruno Fernandes (11.6m)
The next player is the previous week’s popular pick, Bruno Fernandes. Although he still has a double next week, he is on the Players to Sell list. Manchester United are definitely not in a good spell of form. Even with the Ten Haag being announced, a quick turnaround is not expected. As there are only a few weeks to go, Fernandes taken up 11m of your team’s budget is not desirable.
GW26-29 | GW30-33 | |
Total Minutes | 270 | 360 |
xG/90 | 0.54 | 0.15 |
xA/90 | 0.4 | 0.2 |
Big Chances / 90 | 1.00 | 0.00 |
Total Shots in Box / Total Shots | 5 / 12 | 3 / 9 |
Moreover, he has abysmal underlying numbers in the period between GW30-33. The dip in his numbers from GW26-29, was a substantial one. His xG/90 fell from 0.54 to 0.15, with xA/90 dropping from 0.4 to 0.2. Also the number of shots taken also saw a decrease. Even the Double Gameweek is against Arsenal and Chelsea, which does not add any hope of him benefitting much from the Double Gameweek. After this, Manchester United also blank in the GW37> Therefore, I would suggest removing him, as there are many better options like Raheem Sterling, KDB etc available to bring in.
