FPL Chip Strategy For The Remainder of The Season | All Scenarios (Updated)

We are in the business end of the season. This is the point of the season where FPL managers make maximum use of their chips and make big leaps in their ranks. In this article, we will walk through the possible Double and Blank Gameweeks and FPL Chip Strategy for all the possible scenarios.

Points to remember for your FPL planning till the end of the season:

  • You can’t use two Free Hits in two consecutive Gameweeks.
  • There will be three Double Gameweeks for the rest of the season- GW34, GW36, and GW37.
  • Chelsea are the only team to have a Double Gameweek in GW34 and GW36
  • Aston Villa, Everton and Leicester are the only teams confirmed to have a Double Gameweek in both GW36 and GW37.
  • Manchester United have a Double in GW34 but will blank in GW37.
  • Wolves vs Manchester City is the only game left to be rescheduled. It can be either re-scheduled in GW36/GW37. This means that both City and Wolves could either double in GW36 or GW37.
  • Chelsea second fixture in GW36(vs Leeds) is Three days before the FA cup final against Liverpool, which means main of the main players could be rested for that fixture.

Before going further, Do vote in this week’s FPL GW34 allaboutfpl captaincy poll. The same will be available in the captaincy analysis and metrics blog written by@AK_FPL1. The metrics has a 27/33 record this year. Stay tuned for the DGW34 Captaincy metric to see who tops it. Link to all our FPL Gameweek 34 blogs.

FPL Chip Strategy for the rest of the season:

A simple reminder that there is no correct/wrong strategy in FPL. Everything is team-dependent and here we are just trying to analyze all the scenarios to help you prepare for the final stretch of the season.

1) No FPL chips left:

No worries, It is actually possible to navigate the rest of the season even with no chips left.

  • Chelsea players should be your top priority ahead of GW34, since they double in GW36 also. James, Mount, Havertz, Werner are some of the names to target
  • Players from Liverpool and Manchester City should be your target in the coming weeks. Both teams are chasing for the title, Liverpool double in GW36 and City will double in GW36/GW37.
  • Before GW36, Target players from Everton, Villa and Leicester since these teams are confirmed to double in both GW36 and GW37.

2) Two Free hits alone left:

There are 4 possible strategies left if you have 2 Free Hits left because you can’t play Free Hit in 2 successive weeks.

  • Free Hit in GW34 and GW36
  • Free Hit in GW34 and GW37
  • Free Hit in GW36 and GW38
  • Free Hit in GW34 and GW38

Lets us take a detailed look on the pros and cons of Free hitting in GW34, GW36, GW37 and GW38.

FPL GW34 Free Hit:

  • Manchester United and Chelsea have a Double Gameweek in GW34.
  • Manchester City is up against Watford. This is another fixture to target on Free Hit.
  • Some of the players to target on GW34 Free Hit- James, Mount, Havertz, Werner, Ronaldo, Sancho, De Bruyne and Cancelo.

Looking for GW34 Free Hit drafts? Here is our GW34 Free Hit Guide which is an essential reading if you are on Free Hit.

FPL GW36 Free Hit:

GW36 is the safest and most secure option(10 teams confirmed to double)as there will be premium stars from big teams with high ambitions of their own. But you will be already owning assets from most of the teams that Double(Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool) and you could field a 11 full of Double Gameweek players even without playing Free Hit.

But the main advantage of using Free Hit in GW36 is that you can forget about your bench and get 11/12 good players and spend the budget on them.

FPL GW37 Free Hit:

  • Leicester, Everton, Villa, Palace and Burnley are the teams confirmed to have a Double Gameweek.
  • Among these, Leicester(vs Watford, Norwich), Palace(vs Villa, Everton), Villa(vs Palace, Burnley) and Everton(vs Brentford, Watford) have the most attractive fixtures.
  • Leicester have the Europa Conference League semifinals before GW36 and if they get knocked out, first team players should start the league games regularly.
  • The biggest advantage and upside of Free Hit in GW37 is there are outside chances that Manchester City(West Ham, Wolves) could double in GW37 instead of GW36 as discussed in the beginning of the article.

FPL Gameweek 38 Free Hit:

  • We will get an idea of teams who have everything to play for(target them) and the teams who have nothing to play for(avoid them) on the final day.
  • All games kick-off at the same time. Chances of getting early team news.
  • GW38 usually sees plenty of goals than an average Gameweek which means more FPL points if you get the correct players. On top of this, there are some tempting fixtures for the big teams in GW38.
    • Spurs vs Norwich
    • Chelsea vs Watford
    • Arsenal vs Everton
    • Liverpool vs Wolves
    • City vs Aston Villa

Now, let us take a look at the defensive numbers and rank of these teams this season.

Team Big Chances
Conceded
BCC
Rank
Goals
Conceded
Goals Conceded
Rank
Norwich 792nd662nd
Watford716th623rd
Everton 716th525th
Wolves5213th2817th
Aston Villa 5910th46 9th

3. One free hit alone left:

  • If you have only the Free hit chip left, you should definitely use it in one of the Double Gameweeks- GW34/GW36/GW37 or even go differential using it in GW38.
  • GW36 is the safest and most secure option(10 teams confirmed to double)as there will be premium stars from big teams with high ambitions of their own.
  • GW34 and GW37 are the Differential options to consider and have a big upside as well.

4. Only Wildcard and Bench Boost left:

Wildcard in GW34 and BB in GW36

  • Sets you up for Double Gameweek 36 and the rest of the season- Long terms picks from City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Spurs.

Looking for GW34 Wildcard drafts? Here is our GW34 Wildcard Guide which is an essential reading if you are on Wildcard

5. Only bench boost left:

Bench Boost is totally team dependent and our advice is that it can be used in GW36 which means you can get 15 Double Gameweek players. You can build towards that in the coming weeks with Free transfers and hits.

6. Wildcard, Bench Boost, One Free hit left:

Strategy : Wildcard in GW34, Bench boost in GW36, and Free hit in GW37/GW38.

7. One Free Hit and Bench boost left:

Strategy 1- Bench Boost in GW36, Free Hit in GW37

Strategy 2- Free hit in GW36, Bench Boost in GW37

Strategy 3– Free Hit in GW34, Bench Boost in GW36

You can choose one of the strategies depending on your team structure. Bench Boost in GW36 is recommended as it is easy to field 15 Double Gameweek players in GW36 than GW37.

8. Two Free Hits and Bench boost left:

Strategy 1- Bench Boost in GW36, Free Hit one in GW34 and Free Hit two in GW37/38(Most recommended)

Strategy 2- Bench Boost in GW37, Free Hit one in GW36 and Free Hit two in GW38

Strategy 3– Bench Boost in GW37, Free Hit one in GW34 and Free Hit two in GW36(Least recommended as it is difficult to set up bench boost)

9. Wildcard, Bench Boost, Two Free Hits left:

Plan- Free hit one in GW34, Wildcard in GW35, Bench Boost in GW36, Free hit 2 in GW37/GW38

10. Triple Captain Chip

We did not want to mix the TC with the other strategies. Plus the Triple Captain is completely team-dependent so the few options are listed below, you can mix it up yourself with the above strategies if you have any other chips left.

If you didn’t use the Triple Captain chip on Salah in GW26/GW29, there are still some options to choose from depending on your team and your chip strategy. Here are some of the options-

  1. Cancelo/KDB- GW36 vs Newcastle, Wolves. If they double in GW37 instead it will be against West Ham, Wolves.
  2. Salah/TAA/Robbo– GW36 vs Spurs, Villa.
  3. James/Rudiger/Havertz– GW36 vs Wolves, Leeds(Likely rotation for the 2nd game as the FA cup final is after the Leeds game).
  4. James/Rudiger/Havertz– GW34 vs Manchester United, West Ham.
  5. Saka- GW36 vs Leeds, Spurs
  6. Maddison/Vardy/Barnes– GW36 vs Everton, Norwich
  7. Coutinho– GW37 vs Palace, Burnley
  8. Zaha- GW37 vs Villa, Everton
