FPL Gameweek 27 Transfer Tips: Players to Buy, Hold & Sell

Transfers are precious and to be well utilized through this period of Fantasy Premier League with a DGW27, Blank GW28, and then a big DGW29. This is even more relevant with FPL managers trying to optimize chips and for fellow GW26 Wildcarders who were at the brutal end of outcomes in a gameweek that went about as badly as it could have, post-wildcard. In this article, we take a look at the players to Buy/Hold/Sell ahead of FPL Gameweek 27.

FPL Gameweek 27 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY

If the intention is to use bench boost in GW29, I’d strongly recommend holding 2 transfers for that GW to deal with any injuries that the International Break may throw up or just to pick a differential like Bruno or Maddison. That mean’s saving a transfer this GW is a smart play with no burning issues thus allowing a move to add a player in Blank GW28 before having 2 moves for GW29’s bench boost.

For other managers looking to make a move this week, Ivan Toney is about as obvious a move as they come. Strong captain contender for a double GW in 27, has a fixture in 28, and doubles again in GW29. Bring him in if you don’t own. Here are 2 ‘Buy’ suggestions beyond that painfully obvious one.

Alexis Mac Allister (5.4, MID, Brighton)

FPL GW27 Players to Buy- Mac Allister

I think choosing between the 3 popular Brighton midfielders is still a coin toss and just last week, I suggested getting in March over the other 2. I still think that’s a sound decision however Mac Allister getting a penalty and finally delivering some output on his strong underlying numbers has swung the needle slightly further towards the World Cup winner, for me.

This admittedly is outcome bias however as mentioned last week too, Mac Allister continues to have the most impressive underlying numbers of all the Brighton Mids when he plays as a #10 like he has been under De Zerbi off late. The fact that he had a stretch of failing to deliver output on those numbers was working against him. But having gotten an assist this week from another excellent display of 0.71 xA from 3 key passes, he finally delivered on it. It helps hugely that he’s on penalties for a side that boast a winger who literally did a thesis on dribbling and he scored a penalty this week in a display with 2 other shots amounting to a total xG of 0.98.

If you picked the other 2 Brighton mids (like me), I wouldn’t use a transfer to swap one to Mac Allister but if in the position of picking one for the upcoming set of doubles, Mac Allister would probably be my pick.

Pervis Estupinan (4.8, DEF, Brighton)

FPL GW27 Players to Buy- Estupinan

Estupinan lodged 1 shot and 2 key passes this week for Brighton while they also secured a clean sheet. He looks threatening in his role as an underlapping fullback with Mitoma holding width and attracting defenders thus allowing him dangerous forays into the box. Brighton have 2 upcoming double Gameweeks on either side of a blank in GW28 but I think there’s good potential for points at both ends of the pitch in a position that isn’t as competitive as the midfield in FPL squads.

Key stat:

Estupinan has the most assists(3) and second most FPL points(42) among Defenders since GW20 averaging 7.0 FPL points/game.

Erling Haaland (12.2, FWD, Manchester City)

FPL GW27 Players to Hold- Haaland

Wait.. what?

The 84.6% owned Viking has 62000 transfers out at the time of writing. The logic is that Haaland has just 2 fixtures in the next 3 GWs compared to 5 for someone like Ivan Toney and 4 for Ollie Watkins, for example, and there’s a strong case for Haaland not being captained again till GW30.

Nonetheless, while I think the logic is sound, I’d be very reluctant to move on the league’s top scorer even on a run of Crystal Palace, blank, Liverpool. An on-song Haaland is capable of a big haul in any given game and I’d want to keep him for the upcoming Palace game at least. In blank GW28, there’s more of a case to sell him for a short spell before bringing him back in for GW30. Hold this week, at least.

Key stat:

Haaland’s GW27 Opponent Crystal Palace have conceded the Most shots inside the box(113), Worst xGC(18.33) in the Premier League since the World Cup break.

Martin Odegaard (7.0, MID, Arsenal)

FPL Gameweek 27 Players to Hold- Odegaard

128k transfers out and counting at the time of writing but I strongly believe Odegaard is a hold. He may have blanked against Bournemouth in a game where Arsenal scored thrice but he took a mammoth 11 shots(Highest among all players for GW26, Second best was Ihenacho with 5 shots) and created 3 chances in that game; owners were unfortunate not to come away with something. He also has a fixture in the blank GW28 when Manchester City, Manchester United, Brighton, etc, and their popular midfield picks blank.

Odegaard should be an easy hold.

Riyad Mahrez (7.6, MID, Manchester City)

FPL Gameweek 27 Players to Sell- Mahrez

Mahrez owners had a great run but as I said last week, it’s time to move off him and catch other upside midfield picks like Brighton midfielders, Maddison or Arsenal Mids.

The Algerian has only played 18 minutes in the league in his last 3 games now including 2 complete no-shows and with the Phil Foden resurgence, his minutes could be risky even after the Champions League Quarter Final second leg.

Still owned by nearly 10% of FPL managers, Mahrez is a definite sell this week especially with very good midfield transfer targets to move to.

Robert Sanchez (4.6, GK, Brighton)

FPL Gameweek 27 Players to Sell- Sanchez

This is an unconventional pick and possibly even a risky one but based on my assessment of De Zerbi’s comments, it looks like Sanchez will be ceding the jersey to Steele at least for the immediate future. This means he’s very likely to not start either of the fixtures in the immediate DGW and also has a decent chance to miss out on DGW29. With managers having moved to him for these 2 specific gameweeks including the potential play of a bench boost chip in GW29, I think it’s worthwhile to cut your losses this week itself. Personally, I’d get Raya as my first preference rather than take a similar risk with Steele, and if already got him, Pope, Kepa, Areola, or Navas look like potentially good options for a BB29.
