FPL GW27 Differential Picks to Consider Ahead of Deadline

In all ways, possible GW27 is a key week for FPL managers. A lot of us have hedged our bets on Brighton and Brentford assets, both of those teams double this week. Apart from those teams, the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea returning to form gives more headaches for managers to pick their squads. A lot of managers are likely to activate the wildcard button this week. As a result, picking the right low-owned players with the potential for big returns is red hot. Our differential picks this week have been based on various double/blank scenarios to fit most of the FPL manager’s team and chip scenarios. Let’s look at our top six FPL GW27 Differentials picks.

Top FPL GW27 Differential Picks (<10% ownership)

Ben Chilwell vs Leicester(A), £5.8m, TSB: 2.3%

Top FPL GW27 Differential Picks ~ Ben Chilwell

Okay, we usually don’t come up with big predictions, but we are going to make a prediction on Ben Chilwell. If he stays fit, we believe he will outscore all other defenders in FPL from now until the end of the season.

Indeed, Chilwell has hit full fitness after a long time and the shift in formation from Graham Potter is helping him immensely. He has registered 3 assists in the last 2 games in all competitions. Overall this season, despite playing only 707 minutes, Chilwell has 1 goal and 3 assists

Chelsea fixtures from FPL GW27 to FPL GW31
Chelsea’s fixtures

Chelsea are one of those that have a favorable run of games all the way till GW31, including a fixture in blank gameweek 28 and a double in GW29.

Although, it is not much to go with, Chilwell had the joint most shots in the box(2) last time out among defenders(GW26) and had a big chance as well with a total xG of 0.31. In the Champions League against Dortmund too, he created a big chance. Besides, the Chelsea man is on set pieces from both sides of the pitch. He has a good attacking threat both from an assisting and a goal scoring perspective.

Despite their poor form, one thing you can always associate with Chelsea is having a defence that’s reliable. No team has conceded fewer big chances than the Blues since GW17. Combine that with a shift back to a 3-4-3 formation, and big hauls for the wingbacks are around the corner!

Cody Gakpo vs Bournemouth(A), £7.7m, TSB: 4.8%

Top FPL GW27 Differential Picks ~ Cody Gakpo

How can we not put a Liverpool player on our list after the performance they put in against Manchester United last week?

Cody Gakpo registered 2 goals and a 14-point haul in the 7-0 trashing of their arch-rivals. He has had more big chances than any other FPL player since GW23.

Here is the thing, Gakpo has had more big chances(7) than Darwin Nunez since his Liverpool debut. Having more big chances than Darwin was next to impossible for all players in the league, let alone his own teammates. The Dutchman is joint top for goals among his teammates since his debut. Besides, only Haaland, Rashford and Nketiah have had more big chances than Liverpool’s number 18 in that period.

Jurgen Klopp’s men blank in GW28. However, they double in GW29. As a result, it is worth bringing in their assets into wildcard teams for GW27. Or, if you are a manager looking to wildcard in Gameweek 28 and looking for a one-week punt, Gakpo is your guy!

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s FPL GW26 opponents Bournemouth have conceded the second most amount of goals since the restart. They are also the fourth worst NPxGA in that time.

Alexis McAllister vs Leeds(A), Crystal Palace(H), £5.4m, TSB: 4.5%

Top FPL GW27 Differential Picks ~ Alexis Mac Allister

This was probably the biggest regret for FPL managers who wildcarded last week. Not picking Alexis McAllister ahead of Solly March was an eleven-point swing for managers. Indeed, the Argentine registered a goal and an assist along with maximum bonus points.

It is very important to look at stats only from GW23 onwards as that’s when McAllister started playing as a number 10. Since then, McAllister tops almost the key stats among his teammates. He is top for shots, shots on target, shots in the box, big chances, xG, and xPts among his compatriots. In fact, it is not even a battle in terms of goal threat. The World Cup is way ahead of March and Mitoma.

Forget Brighton players, McAllister has the best xG among all FPL players since GW23. Yeah, that is right, not even Haaland is better for xG than Brighton’s penalty-taker. He is also second only to Gakpo for big chances in that period. The Crazy thing to note is McAllister has played only 3 games, while the likes of Saka and Gakpo have played 5 and 6 matches respectively.

We will go as far as to say that McAllister is not only a must-buy, he is by far and away the best captaincy option this week in our opinion.

Sven Botman vs Wolves(H), £4.5m, TSB: 5.5%

Top FPL GW27 Differential Picks ~ Sven Botman

There is nothing special about Sven Botman. He is just an FPL defender that keeps ticking over and will be the perfect hold in the long run for the rest of the season. The Dutchman is the tenth-highest-scoring defender in FPL this season.

Newcastle’s upcoming fixtures

Although the Magpies have failed to keep clean sheets in any of their last 4 games, they have faced two of the best attacks in the league in Man City and Liverpool in that time. However, they have a sea of green in the fixture list all the way up till GW34.

Botman is cheap and plays for a team that has been consistent defensively this season. Therefore, he is the best option for fifth defender in wildcard for FPL managers.

Bryan Mbeumo vs Everton(A), Southampton(A), £5.9m, TSB: 4.6%

Top FPL GW27 Differential Picks ~ Bryan Mbeumo

Bryan Mbeumo is a peculiar player in FPL. He has registered 5 goals and 4 assists this season, however, stats suggest that it could have and should have been a lot more. He can be the perfect third player to pick from Brentford, along with Toney and a defender.

Although Toney has performed way better than Mbeumo in terms of points, there isn’t a lot between in terms of underlying numbers. Mbeumo has underperformed his xPts by nearly 30 points.

Mbeumo got a 12-point haul in the reverse fixture against Southampton. He also got an assist last season at St. Mary’s in the only goal Brentford scored in that game.

Since GW19, Mbeumo is outperforming Ivan Toney in almost all key metrics. He is top for big chances, xG, xA, and xPts among Brentford players. Therefore, it is safe to say that in recent weeks, Mbeumo has started to show for the underlying numbers he had put up.

Although it is still up in the air, Ivan Toney’s suspension could kick in any time post-April, which is where GW29 starts. Assuming he is suspended, Mbeumo is a perfect pick for managers all the way till GW34. The Cameroonian will be on pens too in the potential absence of his compatriot. Given the underlying numbers, it wouldn’t be at all a bad move to go with Mbeumo right from the off.

Ollie Watkins vs West Ham(A), £7.3m, TSB: 8.8%

Top FPL GW27 Differential Picks ~ Ollie Watkins

We are shocked that Ollie Watkins is still a differential. Considering the fact that he has five goals in the last six matches, he should have been a must-have in the GW26 wildcard teams. However, that hasn’t been the case.

Villa have a very good run of games coming up. Not only do they have a fixture in both blank Gameweeks 28 and 32, they also double in GW29. Three of Villa’s next four games are away from home. Ollie Watkins has at least one attacking return in each of his away matches under Unai Emery.

Watkins is third best for xG on the road since Emery took over. However, he has played lesser games than the likes of Rashford and Haaland. Besides, Villa have scored in every game since Unai Emery took charge. As a result, they are a reliable team in front of the goal and Watkins is the in-form player and focal point of all their attacks.

Meanwhile, David Moyes’ men are third worst in the league for % of chances conceded down the center. Furthermore, he has 2 goals in 5 matches against the Hammers.
