FPL GW27 Tips – Preview and Dilemmas Answered

1) Is it worth playing the Wildcard ahead of FPL GW27?

Is it worth playing the Wildcard ahead of FPL GW27?

Gameweek 27 is a double gameweek, with Brentford and Brighton having good fixtures this week.

Straight off, if you don’t have players from both teams, see how many you can get with a maximum of a couple of hits. If the rest of your team is fine, you can avoid playing the Wildcard right now and save it for GW28/29 or even later to attack at the end of the 2022/23 FPL season.

So, suppose you have players from Liverpool, i.e. Mohamed Salah, Trent, Nunez etc. In that case, you can hold them this week against Bournemouth. You can even keep your Arsenal and Man United players who have a favourable fixture in GW27.

Using the Wildcard in a scenario where you have a combination of players like Patterson/Tarkowski, Bueno, Mahrez, KDB, Nketiah, and Mitrovic is better. In such a situation, you may have to take multiple hits, which is not ideal. The most significant advantage of the Wildcard right now is that you can attack the double in GW27, prepare your team for GW28 and set up a GW29 Bench Boost team.

There is no one correct answer here. Ultimately, you will have to see your team and take a call. The Wildcard in GW27 is slightly better as it prepares your team with Brentford and Brighton players for DGW27. You can field 10-11 players in GW28 without using the Free Hit and get your team sorted by loading up on a minimum of 12-13 Double Gameweek players from GW29.

Conversely, you can use your regular transfers, field a strong XI and reassess next week or later once we get confirmed information on the blank in GW32 and the probable Doubles in GW34/37.

2) Who are the best FPL Double Gameweek 27 players to Target?

Four teams are doubling in GW27, but only Brentford and Brighton are relevant from an FPL point of view.

From Brentford, you can get Ivan Toney as one of your forwards. He is the talisman in the Brentford team and has over 50% goal contribution in all of Brentford’s goals this season. We know he is also on penalties and great at taking them.

If you are looking for a second Brentford player, you can get in Raya as your goalkeeper. He is top for saves made among all goalkeepers this season, and Brentford’s defence has the potential to keep clean sheets against Everton and Southampton.

Toney and Raya should be enough to cover the Double Gameweek in 27. You can get a third Brentford player, with Mee, Henry and Pinnock as potential options in defence. Brentford is top for least xGC among all teams since the FPL restart. They do tend to concede a high xG against attacking teams though. Just be aware that Brentford have a tricky double in GW29, and loading up on defenders may be challenging.

Coming to Brighton and Estupinan is the standout option in defence. The left-back is a nailed starter in the Brighton team and has already got 5 assists this season. He doesn’t provide much goal threat, but he can create chances (25 chances + 4 big chances for the season) which is excellent for bonus points.

Getting at least one Brighton midfielder should help mitigate loss, but two are ideal.

Solly March has the best underlying stats across most metrics but has struggled to get consistent returns in recent games. Mitoma has over-performed his numbers and has been a clinical finisher. Mac Allister is another option that has cropped up since the FPL restart. He has been playing an advanced no10 role, significantly increasing his FPL potential. He is also on penalties and adds to his overall goal threat.

A double-up on the Brighton midfielders is worth it. You can go for a combination of March + Mitoma if you want to go safer. Mac Allister with March looks like the right play if you want to play aggressively.

3) Should we sell Liverpool players right now?

What to do with Liverpool players ahead of FPL GW27?

Liverpool took the footballing world by storm after beating arch-rivals Man Utd 7-0 at Anfield. It was a shock result where players like Salah, Gakpo and Nunez returned big and punished FPL managers who took them out on the GW26 Wildcard.

This week we have a similar dilemma where quite a few are considering selling their Liverpool assets for the Brentford/Brighton players having a double gameweek. It depends on how many double gameweek players you have in your team for GW27. If you already have a Brighton midfielder and Toney in attack, I suggest holding your Liverpool attackers this week. They have a great fixture against Bournemouth, and most of them have the potential to return big.

In case you are Wildcarding, the situation becomes trickier. You must decide whether to keep players like Salah/Nunez in your team or go with players like Kane or an additional Brighton/Arsenal MID for your team.

Coming to the defence, you can easily sell Alisson or even Trent/Robertson for players from Brentford/Brighton this week. Liverpool can keep a clean sheet, but someone like Estupinan may outscore Trent/Robertson with those two games.

I won’t switch them for a Brentford defender, especially when there is Raya available as the goalkeeper with slightly better potential. Double Brentford defense isn’t a must-have this week and forces you to navigate a very tricky double in GW29. This handicaps you to make changes which may use up valuable free transfers.

4) Bench Boost in FPL GW27 vs FPL GW29, which is better?

Bench Boost in FPL GW27 vs FPL GW29, which is better?

Bench Boost is a chip that allows you to get all points scored from your bench players for just one week. Whatever points your bench scores are added to your total points tally for the gameweek. You can only use this chip once across the entire season.

Two viable Bench Boost strategies have emerged recently. Many managers who wildcarded in GW26 have a strong bench this week containing players from Arsenal and Newcastle. Both teams have a suitable fixture, and there is a high chance you will leave points on the bench this week.

Another strategy is to use the chip in GW29 and take advantage of the double gameweeks for 12 teams. Even Arsenal and Man City have an excellent single gameweek fixture providing you with a great chance to score maximum points.

Bench Boost in FPL GW27

  • Good fixtures for teams like Arsenal, Liverpool, Man United, Man City and Newcastle can help you get a big score this week.
  • Using the BB this week, you can focus mainly on your playing XI by taking out money from your team’s bench in the upcoming weeks.
  • Bench Boost, this week vs GW29, gives you fewer Double Gameweek players in total, and the points ceiling, despite being good, can still feel low.

Bench Boost in FPL GW29

  • By saving the Bench Boost for GW29, you get an opportunity to transfer better players to your team and maximise the effectiveness of the chip.
  • Though you may get an additional fixture for 2-3 players on your bench, the potential depends on the players you have got in your team.
  • Having 2-3 players from Brentford, Newcastle or even Liverpool may not be ideal. All three teams have a tricky double, and the points gained may be limited.

5) What to do with Erling Haaland?

What to do with Erling Haaland?

A lot of FPL managers are thinking of selling Erling Haaland this week. The question remains: is it worth taking the risk?

Haaland only plays twice in the next three gameweeks, with GW28 being a blank gameweek for the Man City forward. This week he plays against Crystal Palace. GW29 is also a single gameweek, but it’s against Liverpool. Despite winning handsomely against Man Utd, Liverpool has had their defensive troubles, and Haaland can easily haul big in that game.

You have Toney or even Watkins as alternatives. The former has a double gameweek in GW27 and 29 and a confirmed game in GW28. Watkins also has a guaranteed game in GW28 and a double in GW29. Iheanacho and Nunez are some more alternate options, but most FPL managers are not considering them.

Though the number of fixtures is more for Toney and Watkins, both aren’t close to what Haaland can do in each game. Haaland’s numbers are elite, and he can easily outscore both forwards despite having fewer games.

If you are on a Wildcard, you can take the risk of removing Haaland for GW27 and getting him back by GW30. He is facing Southampton that week, and his EO(effective ownership) will be more than 150%. By doing this, you are already booking a precious free transfer. The chances of getting it wrong and losing a lot of ranks are high, and you must be careful.

Ensure you don’t spread your funds a lot. Otherwise, getting him back will be challenging.

If you don’t have the Wildcard available, keeping Haaland and tinkering with the other two positions among forwards is better. Toney is an excellent second striker option not in place but in addition to Haaland. Watkins is a good alternative; you can easily get him instead of Kane.

I don’t think it’s worth taking out Haaland to bring him back for GW30. I don’t see any massive gains that can be made, and it’s a pretty risky strategy moving out the Man City striker.

That will be all from my side for this week! All the best for Gameweek 27, and I will see you next week.
