FPL GW21 Odds Preview: Goals, Clean Sheets & Predicted Points

With the GW21 Deadline fast approaching, we look to the Bookmakers and Prediction Models to give us an idea of which teams and players are expected to haul. A lot can be drawn from these probability and prediction models if we are able to break them down. In this article, we will perform the analysis on a team level as well as a player level by taking a deeper look at the FPL GW21 Odds.

Teams Predicted To Score in FPL GW21

Man City

With a 95% chance of at least putting one past Wolves at the Etihad, City is by far the team with the best chance to haul this week. When these two sides met earlier this season, City tore Wolves apart with a 3-0 win at Molineux with goals from Grealish, Haaland and Foden. This time they meet at the Etihad and though City have been struggling for form, the bookmakers still firmly back City to sweep Wolves aside which is good news for most FPL managers who have already tripled up on City assets in DGW20.

Liverpool

In what may seem like a surprising statistic, Liverpool have been given a 86% chance of scoring against Chelsea at Anfield. Both these teams have been plagued with injuries which have caused them to struggle at both ends of the field. Though Liverpool are low on confidence at the moment, the bookies do back them to perform in front of their home crowd and believe that we could see some goals from the Reds.

Arsenal

Arsenal face Man United this weekend in what promises to be an enthralling match. Both teams are in fine form and have restarted the season in blazing fashion. Arsenal do have home advantage with the teams playing at the Emirates, and the bookies have given them an 84% chance of scoring against United. With their home form being impeccable this season, you would not put it past Arteta’s side to put a goal or two past De Gea.

Teams Predicted To Keep Clean sheets in FPL GW21

Man City

Unsurprisingly, Man City top the Cleansheet Odds table this week with a 52% chance of keeping Wolves at bay. Though they have conceded 4 goals since the restart, their xGC within that same period is 2.8, which does point to them being slightly unlucky to concede that many goals. This weekend is a perfect opportunity to balance the scales against a Wolves side that have been known to struggle up front and the bookies firmly back Ederson and Man City to keep a cleansheet.

Liverpool

Second on the list is Liverpool and they have been given a 36% chance of keeping a cleansheet against Chelsea this weekend. This could come as a surprise, especially since Liverpool have been leaking in goals from all areas of their defence. However, when we assess Chelsea as an attacking outfit, we start to understand why the bookies have backed Liverpool this week. Chelsea have been struggling to convert their chances all season with Havertz and Aubameyang being rather wasteful at times. This could play into Liverpool’s hands and give their defence some respite after last week’s thumping by Brighton.

West Ham & Arsenal

Bookies have given West Ham and Arsenal a 35% and 33% chance of cleaning up against their opponents in GW21. West Ham play Everton at home and this would prove to be a good chance for David Moyes to get things back on track as they face a deflated Everton side that lost 2-1 to Southampton in GW20. As for Arsenal, though Man Utd have been stellar in attack, the Emirates has proven to be a fortress this season so no surprise that the bookies favour Arsenal to keep Man Utd at bay.

Players With Haul Potential for FPL GW21

FPL GW21 Predicted Points

Cross-referencing both the Anytime Scorer Odds and Predicted Points, we are able to pick out a few players that have a high potential to haul. The use of more data models serve to make our picks more accurate.

Haaland & Kane

These two talisman have been incredibly consistent this season and it’s no wonder the data back them to perform once again. Haaland has a monstrous 79% chance to score and also tops the Predicted Points table with 8.8 expected points. As for Kane, he’s close behind with 47% on the Anytime Scorer table and 8.6 expected points in GW21. Both of them face rather easy opponents this week, making them great shouts for Captaincy.

Salah & De Bruyne

Both these premium midfielders have been backed to do well this week and their numbers are cause for excitement. Salah has a 60% chance to score, and is predicted to gather 5.6 points from this weekend’s tie against Chelsea. Historically, Salah has always performed better at home and this week the bookies and models back him to get some returns against Chelsea. De Bruyne ranks 3rd on the Predicted Points list, with an impressive 7.1 expected points to his name. His points this season have mainly come from assists, with the Belgian accumulating 11 assists compared to his 3 goals. With a prolific goalscorer in Haaland at the end of his crosses, the prediction models back De Bruyne to get a good chunk of points for his FPL managers.
