GW20 has seen a lot of goals along with some poor performances of popular teams like Liverpool which means managers are already making their transfers ahead of GW21 moving out underperformers and bringing in players who are in good form. In this blog, we take a look at the upcoming potential blank /double gameweeks based on the currently available information and justify why rolling the transfer in FPL GW21 could be a good thing to do.

FPL GW21 Transfers
Solly March scored a whopping 19 points in GW20 against Liverpool and he’s also the highest-scoring player since the restart, this has made him the third most popular transfer in this week. Similarly, Toney who has been consistently scoring goals week in and week out has emerged as a replacement for Mitrovic who missed a penalty returning 0 points in GW20. Man united beating Man city meant untied assets continue to gain ownership ahead of FPL Gameweek 21.
But….
- Brighton, Brentford, Newcastle, and Manchester United – All 4 teams may blank in GW25 which could leave as few as just 4-5 players in your team. Note: All four teams will blank in GW25 if Man united and Newcastle reach the Carabao cup finals.
- Most FPL managers already have Trippier, Rashford, and Shaw in their teams already.
What are the cases for teams to Blank in FPL GW25?
The Carabao cup finals clash with FPL GW25 and it will be a small blank gameweek as the two teams in the finals will not be able to play their GW25 fixture. So far there are six confirmed fixtures with two more fixtures to be confirmed based on the carabao cup semi-final results.
Carabao Cup Semi-Final Fixtures:
- Nottingham Forest vs Man United
- Southampton vs Newcastle United
The semi-finals are home and away with the first legs on Jan 24/25 and the second legs on Jan 31/Feb 1.
The FPL GW22 deadline is only known on 3rd February, by then we’ll surely know which teams will blank in GW25 due to the Carabao cup finals. The Carabao cup semi-finals are over on the 1st of February.
Scenarios for FPL GW25 Blanks
- Man United vs Brentford will be a blank in GW25 if Man United beat Nottingham Forest in the carabao cup semi-finals.
- West Ham vs Nottingham Forest will be a blank in GW25 if Nottingham Forest beat Man united in the carabao cup semi-finals.
- Leeds vs Southampton will be a blank in GW25 if Southampton beat Newcastle united in the carabao cup semi-finals.
- Newcastle vs Brighton will be a blank in GW25 if Newcastle United beat Southampton in the carabao cup semi-finals.
Note: Also, GW25 postponements may move to the following midweek (and stay in GW25) if both teams are out of the FA Cup. Newcastle and Nottingham Forest are already out of the FA Cup.

Why two free transfers will help for FPL GW22?
Before the FPL GW22 deadline, we’ll also know the results of the FA Cup fourth round which is played from Jan 27th to Jan 30th. The FA Cup draw for Round five will be made before the GW22 deadline which will give us a clear idea of which teams will blank in GW28 which clashes with the FA Cup sixth round(Quarterfinals).
Note: If there is a draw in Round 4 there will be a replay that will happen between GW22 and GW23. This will however not affect the fifth-round draw.
Confirmation on Double Gameweek 22:
As it stands Leeds and Man united are provisionally having a double in GW22 and the confirmation of the same depends on the FA Cup results which we’ll know before GW22 deadline.
The Man United vs Leeds game has been provisionally scheduled in the midweek of FA Cup round 4 replays, so both the teams should avoid a replay for the double to be confirmed. Both the teams play their fourth round game on 28th January and the we’ll know the confirmation of the double based on the results.
Provisional Double Gameweek 22 Fixtures
- Man Utd vs Palace(H) & Leeds(H), both at home.
- Leeds vs Forest(A) & Man Utd(A), both away
Brighton vs Liverpool FA Cup Round 4 game scenarios:
This game could be the most important Round 4 game for GW25/26 Fixtures
If Brighton win the game then they’ll mostly blank in GW25 as their previous postponements(vs BOU/CRY) cannot move into the slot between GW25 and GW26 when the FA Cup games are played. Note: Both Bournemouth and Palace are already out of the FA Cup.
A Brighton win also gives a fair chance of DGW25 for Liverpool plus Wolves/Chelsea. Note: Both Wolves and Chelsea are already out of the FA Cup.
If Liverpool win against Brighton in the FA Cup, then Brighton could just play only their postponed fixture from GW7/8 vs Bournemouth/Palace in GW25 with either Palac/Bournemouth doubling in GW25.
A Liverpool win could also give Liverpool and Wolves a Double gameweek 26.
The draw will also give us clarity on the potential doubles gameweeks(DGW29/34/37) for the teams blanking due to the FA Cup.
Simpler understanding: GW25 midweek is the FA Cup midweek and if both sides are involved in a postponement from GW7 or GW8 fail to reach the FA Cup 5th Rd the fixture can move there.
FA Cup round four impact on Man city assets ahead of DGW23
- Manchester City vs Aston Villa(H), Arsenal(A)
- Arsenal vs Brentford(H), Manchester City(H)
Man City and Arsenal double in GW23. They also play each other in the FA Cup round 4 game.
As it stands, Man City have a full week between GW22 away to Tottenham and DGW23 home to Villa. Then, there are only three days before City face Arsenal away(The second fixture in DGW23).
But if Man City and Arsenal draw in their FA Cup game (sandwiched between GW21 and GW22), they will play again between GW22 and DGW23. If this happens, Haaland and other Man city assets expected minutes against Aston Villa could drop as there could be three games in seven days. This might also impact your thinking of Haaland triple captain DGW23.
Once again the FA Cup round 4 results will be known ahead of the FPL GW22 deadline and we’ll surely know if a replay is needed for Man city and Arsenal in the FA Cup.
To conclude, there will be a lot more information available to FPL managers between now and the GW22 deadline and it’s worth rolling the transfer and going into GW22 with two free transfers!
