FPL Gameweek 21 Transfer Tips: Players to Buy, Hold & Sell

It’s nice to have a straight-up single gameweek after a fortnight of cup games and DGWs. Here are our Buy, Sell and Hold recommendations for FPL Gameweek 21.

FPL Gameweek 21 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY

Kaoru Mitoma (5.0 Million, Brighton and Hove Albion, MID)

For FPL players looking to move on from Miguel Almiron or just looking to raise money for a premium asset, Mitoma is a very kindly priced option to for top-tier value. The Japanese winger has been mesmerizing on the ball but is backing up his dribbling ability by getting himself involved with high-quality chances at a strong rate. He’s racking up an xG of 0.59 per game in his last 4 games with 11 shots on target through that spell.

Even with a potential blank in GW25, I believe that the value Mitoma offers to enter a kind fixture run for Brighton is an excellent transfer option ahead of GW21.

Martin Odegaard (6.9 Million, Arsenal, MID)

It’s not earth-shattering to be advising bringing in the currently highest-scoring midfielder on FPL. However, given how good they’ve been this season, Arsenal are providing us with a whole host of quality options right now and it’s important to pick the right 3. The midfield pendulum of points has been swinging between Martinelli, Saka, and Odegaard with different options outscoring others through various spells this season. However, at this point of time, Martin Odegaard is playing some world-class football and backing it up with very strong underlying numbers.

The Norwegian has 4 double-digit returns in his last 7 games and has racked up an xG of 0.34 and xA of 0.54 per game across his past 4. He’s pulling ahead as the Arsenal asset of choice at the moment and his ownership rate of 27.4% feels surprisingly low. We think he’s currently providing a set-and-forget option for midfield at a great price.

FPL Gameweek 21 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD

Aleksandar Mitrovic (7.2, Manchester City, FWD)

The Fulham striker has been frustrating to own with a suspension in the first game of a DGW and his recent gaffe with penalties. He’s the highest sold FWD in FPL at the time of writing with 180k transfer’s out already. However, despite his negatives from penalties missed, penchant for bookings, and strikingly difficult fixture schedule to follow, we’re advocating for Mitrovic being a hold.

He’s still racking up an xG of 0.76 and xA of 0.24 per game these past 4 and Fulham continue to play positive football against every team in the league. With injuries and other fixture changes to plan for, Mitrovic continues to offer very strong, reliable value in FPL.

Mohamad Salah (12.8, Liverpool, MID)

FPL Royalty, Salah’s points this season reflect Liverpool’s turmoil on it. The Egyptian winger has struggled and his points recently and overall this season nowhere reflect what they should be at this elite price. He’s been very poor off late in FPL when hopes were high from him post-the World Cup.

However, despite his struggles, he continues to have decent underlying numbers, is on penalties and with news of Darwin’s injury worries – might benefit from a greater share of xG in his absence. A hold, still, just about, we think.

FPL Gameweek 21 Transfer Tips: Two Players to SELL

Joao Cancelo (7.2, Manchester City, DEF)

Another player who’s remained in teams far longer than he should be due to his recent FPL legacy. The Portuguese defender, once a mainstay on FPL, seem’s to have lost his place in Pep’s team how a timeframe that we can only speculate on. He remains in teams of 43.2% of FPL managers at the time of writing.

Given that he’s averaging under 2 points per game over a spell as far back as 7 games from now and being benched more than he’s started off late, it’s time to move Cancelo on and seek other emerging options like Luke Shaw, John Stones or Dan Burn amongst others.

Phil Foden (8.2, Manchester City, MID)

14.1% ownership suggests managers were keen to keep faith in the Englishman, especially ahead of a DGW, but patience must surely be wearing thin on a player who’s struggled to get minutes. The enticement from Foden is the value he offers when he’s on the pitch. He’s currently not getting on it enough to provide value. Sell.
