FPL Gameweek 14 Transfer Tips: Two Players to Buy, Hold & Sell

Traditionally, the end-of-season run-in is the perfect time to take short-term punts essentially ‘dead ending’ a team and that’s one of my favourite ‘opportunistic’ moves as an FPL manager. With the World Cup break and unlimited transfers coming in GW16, we’re presented with a similar opportunity in these 3 GWs albeit having to stay mindful of losing accumulated value in the process. With that in mind, I think this is a great opportunity to make some bolder moves to try to catch a potential upside in these 3 games.

FPL Gameweek 14 Transfer Tips: Two players to BUY

1) Marcus Rashford (6.6, MID, Manchester United)

FPL Gameweek 14 Transfer Tips: Two players to BUY ~ Rashford

Midfield is where I think all the best punts are, at the moment. Marcus Rashford has amassed an xG of 1.82 and an xA of 0.74 in his last 4 league outings. While Martial’s struggling with fitness, Ronaldo hasn’t helped himself with disciplinary issues meaning Rashford will likely be a cheap, out-of-position midfield option heading into a fixture run of WHU, avl, and ful.

He’s looked very threatening on the eye test and even had 11 shots and 4 big chances in his most recent European outing against Omonia. While his finishing is up and down, there’s a chance to catch some big hauls at a very friendly price for a United team that are continuing to improve week on week.

Besides Rashford, I really like Foden, Saka, and even Almiron as picks this week. I’d definitely look to bring in at least 1 if not 2 of the above with my remaining moves till the break.

2) Gianluca Scamacca (6.8, FWD, West Ham)

FPL Gameweek 14 Transfer Tips: Two players to BUY ~ Gianluca Scamacca

The Italian forward makes my ‘buy’ list yet again. Purely for the upside, I’d have preferred to pick 2 midfielders as my ‘BUYs’ but given the injury to Dom Solanke against West Ham, I’m mindful of the need for owners to find a mid-price forward. That’s where Scamacca comes in.

He’s started multiple league games in a row now suggesting he’s wrestled the first-choice striker spot from Antonio. He’s put up an xG of 1.94 and xA of 0.79 from his last 4 league starts and had 16 shots and 7 key passes across that period. Those are very encouraging numbers. West Ham’s final 3 fixtures heading into the break read ‘mun CRY LEI’ which is fairly encouraging from an attacking standpoint. I like Scamacca as a budget-friendly alternative to Toney or Wilson for owners.

Outside shoutout for Darwin Nunez (8.8), an expensive but high-upside punt if he’s fit and fits into your squad structure.

FPL Gameweek 14 Transfer Tips: Two players to HOLD

1) Wilfried Zaha (7.6, MID, Crystal Palace)

FPL Gameweek 14 Transfer Tips: Two players to HOLD ~ Zaha

Only 1 goal and 1 assist in his last 6 games since the fixtures ‘turned’ for the Palace winger, he also looks wide and not as threatening as had been hoped on the eye-test from recent games. With some fantastic midfield options emerging, it’s tempting to move on Zaha despite his good fixtures however I’d strongly recommend 1 more hold.

Zaha faces Southampton at home this weekend. His home form has been significantly better than his away form and Southampton have been a mixed bag defensively and have kept just 1 clean sheet all season, away to Bournemouth last GW.

Matchup alert-

Since GW9, Southampton are top for chances conceded from the right flank(25) and this is where Zaha operates!

Zaha also performs really well at home as seen from below numbers and it is a good move to hold him for atleast one more week and see.

Zaha Home vs Away stats this season

  • Shots inside the box/game- 2.5 vs 1.25
  • FPL Points/game- 6.0 vs 3.5
  • Goal Involvements(G+A)- 5 vs 1

2) Trent Alexander-Arnold (7.2, DEF, Liverpool)

FPL Gameweek 14 Transfer Tips: Two players to HOLD ~ Trent Alexander Arnold

Rested midweek and sitting at just 34 points for the season, no one expected that this how the season would play out for TAA. While I have little faith in Liverpool’s defense, especially while Joe Gomez continues to start in middle, there’s 1 single reason I’m still bullish on holding every Liverpool asset – Fixtures. He created 2 big chances when he came off the bench against Forest and in his final 3 games, he faces a Leeds side with a historic weakness at set-pieces and currently struggling to convert their chances, a Spurs side who were outplayed and kept to a clean sheet by Manchester United and then a home tie against Southampton to finish. It’s possibly been the right move to push money from defense into attack but with budget options doing the job, there’s reason to use limited transfers wisely till GW16.

FPL Gameweek 14 Transfer Tips: Two players to SELL

1) James Maddison (8.2, MID, Leicester City)

FPL Gameweek 14 Transfer Tips: Two players to SELL ~ James Maddison

A personal FPL favourite of mine, James Maddison has been exceptional this season. While lots of managers will have moved him on post an unfortunately timed suspension in blank gw12, managers who held were rewarded with a goal this week against Wolves.

However, the goal came from the single shot he had all game, which was from outside the box. While he’s quality from distance, his low underlying numbers from the right-wing position he started against Wolves was concerning. He faces up against Manchester City before tight away games against Everton and West Ham. I think the probability of catching hauls is higher with a player like Foden or Saka at that same price point.

2) Marc Cucurella (5.1, DEF, Chelsea)

FPL Gameweek 14 Transfer Tips: Two players to SELL ~ Marc Cucurella

Having opted to put the other defender who could’ve made this spot on the ‘HOLD’ list, I’ve gone ahead and put Cucurella as a comfortable sell. Rotation galore under Graham Potter and he’s also not afraid of an early system change. Nearly 10% of the game still own Cucurella, a number that’s frankly very surprising. Easy move on for Saliba/White/Dalot.
