Budget Picks/Enablers To Consider Ahead of the 2021/22 FPL Season

Every year Fantasy Football underprice a couple of hidden gems, Raphinha, Lundstram, Mahrez 15/16 and it is our job to find them. Luckily for you, we’ve listed a few potential candidates for that very role below, so you don’t have to. A short preview of some FPL budget picks that may turn out to be gems during the 2021/22 FPL Season.

FPL Budget Picks/Enablers for the 2021/22 FPL Season

Emile Smith Rowe, Midfielder, Arsenal, £5.5m

FPL Budget Picks for 2021/22 FPL season ~ Smith rowe

Arsenal’s new number 10 is owned by a mere 6.3% of teams so far this season, a number that probably will be a lot higher by the end of the season. Actually, not probably, I’m positive I’m right here.

Awarded with a new 5-year-deal and a fresh start to this season the ‘Croydon De Bruyne’, as he is known amongst the Arsenal faithful, is ready to impress.

Smith Rowe earned 6 goal contributions in 20 appearances last season, but will likely improve on these numbers this season. Currently the sole number 10 in the squad, he is certified to start in a team that only plays a side scoring over 3 on the FDR scale twice over the first 11 gameweeks. With the plethora of attacking wealth around him, he may just be a gem to behold in the upcoming season.

Malang Sarr, Defender, Chelsea, Price Unknown

It seems like an eternity ago this man joined the ranks at Chelsea but it was in fact just last summer. The 23-year-old joined on a free from OGC Nice and was shortly thereafter loaned out to FC Porto for the season. He racked up 31 appearances in Portugal, including a handful of European fixtures as his side battled to the Champions League Quarter Finals, where they lost out to eventual winners and parent club, Chelsea.

However, he’s back in London and has reportedly impressed in pre-season so far. Without a price on FPL it’s not the easiest to navigate this one, but with over 100 senior appearances to his name in his short career so far, he has what it takes to disrupt the starting XI and stake a claim for a starting spot. If he does do this, I expect he will come in at a cut price of £4.5m, which is brilliant value for a man of his talent and in that Chelsea backline. Sarr definitely gives off Rudiger 20/21 season vibes.

In a tweet by Chelsea correspondent Andreas Korssund (@kors_andreas) he wrote: “Tuchel has been very pleased with Malang Sarr so far. Tuchel has Malang in his plans for next season. Tuchel had to make a choice between Malang and Marc, he chose Malang. So when such a high offer for Marc was offered, the board did not hesitate.”

One to keep an eye on.

Milot Rashica, Midfielder, Norwich, £5.5m

FPL Budget Picks for 2021/22 FPL season ~ Milot rashica

Milot Rashica is a man that is going firmly under the radar of many in the world of Fantasy Premier League. The Kosovan international scored 21 goals with a further 17 assists in his 87 Bundesliga appearances for Werder Bremen, a record of 0.43 goal involvements per 90. In comparison to the rest of the Premier League, this would put him in the 96th percentile of players.

The right-winger may be the perfect man to have in your FPL teams as your 4th/5th midfielders, once Norwich’s fixtures ease up that is. In their first 4 fixtures, they face Liverpool, Man City, Leicester, and Arsenal. Not the easiest of starts to life in the Premier League. However, following this torrid run of games, they play only one team that scores over 3 on the FDR scale, Chelsea in GW10.

To add to Rashica’s attractiveness, he is also a dead-ball specialist. You can expect him to be on free kicks and set pieces this season too, with Norwich the 9th best side for winning corners in last season’s Championship. Liverpool came close to acquiring his services last season, so we will soon see if they have let him slip through their fingers.

Ben White, Defender, Brighton, £4.5m

FPL Budget Picks for 2021/22 FPL season ~ Ben White

Currently in 12.5% of FPL squads, Ben White may see that double after he completes his move to Arsenal. The £50million rated man will almost most definitely be a consistent starter for Arteta’s Arsenal this upcoming season, but whether he is deployed as a right-back, center-back, or defensive midfielder is yet to be known. However, rest assured he will be joining the 3rd best defense in the league in 202, conceding 39, only more than Chelsea and Manchester City.

With that in mind, at the cheap price of £4.5m, he could be a real enabler in your backline, even more so if Arsenal can continue their great defensive resurgence.

Only 2 of Arsenal’s first 11 fixtures score higher than 3 on the FDR scale, coming in GW2 and GW3. Avoid these and they have a great run of fixtures in which White has the potential to rack up the clean sheets.

Rayan Ait Nouri, Defender, Wolves, £4.5m

FPL Budget Picks for 2021/22 FPL season ~ Rayan ait nouri

The Wolves wing-back is currently sitting in just 1.0% of teams but could prove to be another differential. Wolves arguably have some of the best opening fixtures, with only 2 of their first 14 games scoring over 3 in the FDR scale. With new manager Bruno Lage at the helm, we could see Ait Nouri’s breakthrough season.

Last season, in just 21 appearances, Ait Nouri created 0.86 chances per 90, putting him almost on par with the popular Brighton man, Tariq Lamptey. We have also already seen Ait Nouri being deployed as a left midfielder at times, further increasing his chances at an attacking return.

Matt Doherty, Defender, Spurs, £5.0m

FPL Budget Picks for 2021/22 FPL season ~ Matt Doherty

It’s strange, because this time last year, the FPL Community were going crazy over this guy, but this season nothing. His underwhelming start to life in London was more down to Mourinho than anyone, but back under Nuno, Doherty can become a real asset to own this season.

Sitting in just 1.2% of teams at the time of writing, Doherty will be looking to improve on his 1st season in London, which saw him play just 17 times in the league. However, with Nuno Espirito Santos at the helm, he can help recover his form of both the 18/19 and 19/20 season, which saw Doherty score a healthy 167 points and 144 points respectively.

In Nuno’s 3-4-3/3-5-2 systems, Doherty racked up a combined 8 goals, 15 assists, and 20 clean sheets in his final two seasons at the Molineux. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw Doherty encapsulate that form yet again and at just £5.0m, he can be one of the best defenders to own this season. If he doesn’t tickle your fancy, however, there’s a lot of value to be had in that Spurs backline, with Eric Dier coming in at just £4.5m.
