In this blog, I will compare some of the best budget midfielders which is one of the most interesting topics right now in FPL as people are willing to sell some of the midfielders currently in their teams such as KDB and Gundogan who are busy with the UCL, Son after the DGW and injured Neto. I am going to use underlying stats for the past 6 GWs and other criteria to help you choose the best budget midfielder for your team.

Budget Midfielders Stats from the past 6 GWs

ShotsShots inside the boxBig Chances Expected Goals (xG)Goals Goal Threat RankingBig Chances CreatedExpected Assists (xA)AssistsAssist Potential Ranking
Lingard141253.2851st21.4133rd
Raphinha131021.4914th21.7012nd

Jota 10921.6533rd00.4606th
Bowen9831.7632nd10.7915th

All 6 have similar shots in the box, but Lingard is dominating both the big chances and xG stats by far. He is the highest between the 6 which explains why he scored the most, Bowen is also very interesting as he comes second in both big chances and xG stats.

In terms of creativity Mason Mount has the most big chances created and xA between all 6 players , he is unlucky he only got one ,while outscored his xA registering the most assists between the 6, also Jota appear to have the least assist potential.

Fixtures for the budget midfielders till the end of the season

Lingard FPL GW 32

Liverpool (Jota): Leeds-Newcastle-Manchester United -Southampton- West Brom – Burnley – Crystal Palace. Liverpool fixtures are the best out of all the other 5 players teams, Manchester United is the only tough fixture.

Chelsea (Mount): Brighton-West Ham-Fulham- Manchester City-Arsenal-Leicester – Aston Villa. Chelsea’s fixtures are the trickiest between all the 5 teams I am mentioning .

Leeds(Raphinha): Liverpool-Manchester United-Brighton-Spurs-Burnley-Southampton-West Brom

West Ham(Lingard and Bowen): Newcastle-Chelsea-Burnley-Everton-Brighton-West Brom-Southampton

Candidate Teams

Chelsea are battling for the top 4 and are into the semi-final of the champions league, I think they will get through the tough fixtures like they did last year and Mason is going to be a part of it. They know that every other team competing for the top 4 have better fixtures so they will try to win every game with everything they can do.

Liverpool are also in the top 4 battle but unlike Chelsea, they are out of the champions league, so they are concentrated on the remaining easy fixtures only, they aren’t on their best form, but they should be able to score a lot and Jota must be a part of it, the only big worry is that Klopp sometimes benches him without a good reason.

West Ham are on amazing form and their remaining fixtures are awesome, They are currently in the top 4, and might have a golden chance to go to the UCL next year, so the players will be fighting for that chance. Owning Jessie Lingard, Bowen or even both is definitely a good idea.

Manchester United are safe in the 2nd place now and it is doesn’t seem like they are going anywhere, Greenwood has something to play for as he had a very difficult season and he is desperate to prove himself.

Leeds have nothing to play, for now, I know they are 4 points away from 7th place but I don’t think they can do it, but Raphinha on the other hand will perform as he did before or even better if he wants a move next summer.

Overall ownership of the budget midfielders prior to fpl GW 32

Raphinha- 11.9%, Lingard- 27.8% (much more for active teams), Bowen- 2.3% (uber differential) Greenwood- 2.1% (another uber differential), Mason Mount- 18.7% , Jota-16.6%

Which budget midfielder to choose in your FPL Team?

Putting his stats, form, ownership, and his team form into perspective Jesse Lingard is essential if there was such a thing and you want to maintain rank, Bowen also offers a lot of value and a great alternative to Lingard or even you could double up on both, also Bowen stats are better than Lingard in the past 4 GWs. I am personally doubling up on them both. I prefer West Ham assets as they offer you everything you need. Bowen takes some corners while Lingard might be on pens.

I think Raphinha is the best 5th spot midfielder if you won’t play him week in week out, he is the cheapest and have some good fixtures from now till the end of the season, you can bench him in the difficult fixtures. Greenwood has the potential to bang in the upcoming fixtures, his form, fixtures, and stats suggest that.

I think Mason Mount is my least favorite for the upcoming seven fixtures as many of them are tough and Tuchel rotates all of his players that doesn’t mean I don’t like him as an option he is on most set pieces and maybe even pens I just like the other picks more. Jota has one of the best fixtures and good stats but I am worried about Liverpool’s current situation and the factor of rotation.
