Many managers are looking to play their second wildcard in FPL GW 31 due to big fixture swings for many key teams. This leads to the opportunity of transferring in players this week that only have to be in your team for FPL GW 30. This GW presents many good fixtures to target and in this article, I will go through three great players to bring in this week for manager’s wildcarding in FPL GW 31.

FPL GW 30 One week punts:

Marcos Alonso vs West Brom (H), £5.7, TSB: 2.5%

Main man Marcos Alonso👀

Marcos Alonso is probably the definition of a good one-week punt this week. He goes up against West Brom, a team that has only managed to score 2 goals in 7 games and are facing relegation from the league if they don’t change their results dramatically, which nothing points at.

If we add Chelsea’s incredible defensive stats and delivery since Thomas Tuchel’s first game, they have conceded only 2 goals and kept 8 clean sheets since GW 20, we should have an almost guaranteed Chelsea clean sheet here. Every stat and the form of both teams points towards a Chelsea win and a clean sheet, which would make their assets very attractive.

Chelsea defensive numbers since GW 20 (Tuchel’s first game).

  • Clean sheets – 8 (League rank 1st)
  • Goals conceded – 2 (1st)
  • xGC – 5.56 (1st)
  • Big chances conceded – 6 (1st)
  • Shots conceded – 66 (1st)
  • SiB conceded – 34 (1st)
  • SoT conceded – 20 (1st)

Why Alonso then? There are lots of good picks from the Chelsea defense, Azpilicueta, Rüdiger, and Christensen are all more guaranteed to start than Alonso and they are of course good choices too. However, in a one-week punt, you want potential, and as Alonso is far more attacking from his wingback position than the previously mentioned players, he is my choice.

During his last six games, Alonso has averaged 1.67 goal attempts in box per game, and 0.5 big chances created per game. These are great stats, and we can therefore state that the chances of an Alonso attacking return is quite high. There is an obvious rotation risk regarding Alonso, but I believe he will start since Tuchel will want his offensive threat against a low-standing West Brom defense. In the absolute worst-case scenario you get to use your first substitution which for many FPL teams is a good alternative considering how many managers are having benching dilemmas this week.

Kai Havertz vs West Brom (H), £8.2, TSB: 2.8%

FPL GW 30 one week punt ~ Kai Havertz
Kai could have a big haul against West Brom🚀

We stay in Chelsea for the second one-week punt, but this time it’s an offensive option. Kai Havertz is only owned by less than 3% of the managers as it stands and presents a great alternative to climb the ranks this week.

Havertz assisted twice against Everton in GW 27 playing almost as a striker, a role that Tuchel wants to play him in again. He also scored for Germany during the international break and it really looks like he is hitting form right now.

It’s worth mentioning that Havertz stats this season have not been extremely good, however if you watch the games he plays you notice that he is very involved in the Chelsea attack as of lately and he has a potential of exploding very soon if he can capitalize from his and his teammates chances.

West Brom have not conceded a huge number of goals lately but they have found it difficult against the top teams, losing 5-0 to Man City earlier in GW 20, and with Chelsea looking constantly better and better, a Chelsea midfielder or attacker will have great potential this week. Mason Mount and Timo Werner are also worth mentioning but with Havertz picking up form and with lower ownership, he would be my preferred pick.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin vs Crystal Palace (H), £7.6, TSB: 35.9%

FPL GW 30 one week punt ~ Dominic Calvert Lewin
Back in form and up against a poor Crystal palace team🌟

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (DCL)’s Everton has a great fixture in GW 30, as they face Crystal Palace at home. Despite picking up all three points against West Brom in GW 28 this is the Palace team that conceded four goals to Spurs in GW 27 and I expect Everton to grab a win here. And if they do, DCL is likely to be on the scoresheet.

He has an FPL goal involvement of 55% this season, including 3 goals and 2 assists in his last 7 games. DCL is the key in Everton’s attack and costing only £7.6 million he’s a great option for this week. His ownership might seem a bit too high, 36% is not really a differential, but I am sure that the number of inactive teams that own DCL is remarkably high, which makes his TSB higher.

Everton have as I mentioned a great fixture in GW 30 but after that their fixtures take a turn and from GW 31 and on, they face 5 defensively quite solid teams in Brighton, Spurs, Arsenal, Aston Villa, and West Ham. However, this is not a reason for not bringing in DCL if you have your wildcard left and can transfer him out after FPL GW 30. This is what you want in a one-week punt and when we combine all the factors I have mentioned here, I think we can agree that FPL GW 30 is a perfect time to transfer in DCL as a one-week punt.
