In this week’s article, I will recommend one player that you should look to buy, one to sell, and one to keep. Have a read!

Buy, Hold, Sell Analysis Ahead of FPL GW34

Buy ~ Timothy Castagne (5.7) – Leicester

Ownership: 6.1%

Castange could be a very solid addition to your team and has some amazing fixtures

The Leicester defender has shown an amazing attacking threat lately, partly as a result of being moved to the right flank. As a wingback he has a very offensive role which has resulted in one goal, one assist and one shot in the post in the last two games.

It should be mentioned that the last two games have been against West Brom and Crystal Palace, two teams that on paper should be easy for Leicester to deal with. Yet, it’s impressive by Castagne to deliver 20 points over these two games.

He has superb upcoming fixtures, at least short term, with Southampton and Newcastle up next. Southampton have only won 2 of their last 15 Premier League games, and as Leicester are fighting for an extremely important Top 4 spot in order to secure Champions League qualification for next season, I find it unlikely that they will drop points here. GW 35 is also predicted by schedule expert Ben Crellin to be a double gameweek for Leicester, however nothing is confirmed as of now.

So, if you don’t have any Leicester cover defensively, I would highly recommend bringing in Castagne if you don’t have any problems in your team, such as injured players in need of being transferred out. It’s a short-term transfer, but I believe it will pay off for you.

Hold ~ Diogo Jota (£7.1) – Liverpool

Image
Jota has amazing numbers and worth sticking with for FPL GW34

Ownership: 17.4%

Diogo Jota is quite tricky to deal with as an FPL asset at the moment. Costing only £7.1m he offers a relatively cheap way into the Liverpool attack, but on the other hand he has not found the net since GW 30, where he came on and score a brace against Arsenal.

What I therefore recommend you to do with the Portuguese attacker is nothing. Do nothing. If you already have him, I would not sell. But if you do not have him, I would not rush to buy. Why?

The most obvious reason for not selling him, is the fact that he still gets chances. Against Newcastle in GW 33 he had an xG of 0.74, but unbelievably he didn’t score. This was his accumulated xG despite being taken off after less than an hour, so if he had played to full game he would obviously have created more. So, you basically just must have faith in the stats here and trust Jota in finding the net again, which he should do if he keeps getting the kind of chances he has done. It’s also worth mentioning that Jota’s fixtures between GW 35 and 38 are very good, another reason not to sell him.

However, if you don’t own Jota now, this is not the right time to bring him in. Liverpool face Manchester United in GW 34, which is a quite tricky fixture given United’s solid defensive performances against the “Big Six” teams this season, conceding only once in their last five “Big Six” games. I also have serious doubts about Jota’s game time against United this weekend. We have seen that Jurgen Klopp seem to prefer the old trio of Salah, Mane and Firmino going up against big teams. Jota didn’t play the second leg against Real Madrid, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s benched again this weekend.

Sell ~ Kevin De Bruyne (£11.4) – Manchester City

Time to jump off KDB?

Ownership: 14.5%

Kevin De Bruyne unexpectedly returned from injury and played the Carabao Cup final against Tottenham this weekend, but I still recommend you to sell if you are one of the 14.5% that still own the Belgian.

Firstly, the Crystal Palace fixture in GW 34 might seem appealing but I don’t think it is, at least not for Kevin De Bruyne. Why? Because I can’t see him being risked playing in this game. The Palace game is squeezed in between the two UCL semifinals against PSG, and with the Premier League title already practically being won, UCL must be prioritized by Pep. This means that I can’t see him risk a key player as Kevin De Bruyne in a pointless game against Palace, between two hugely important ones. Given that De Bruyne just returned from injury, I really think Pep want to avoid getting him injured again, if it’s a match that doesn’t mean much.

It also worth noting that De Bruyne might not be the FPL asset he once was. From an xG of 9.76 this season, the Belgian has only managed to score 6 times, which means that he is heavily underperforming. When you see that trend going on for so long as it has done with De Bruyne now, it might just be the level he’s at. Maybe he isn’t a good finisher?

To sum this up, the main reason for you to sell KDB is the expected GW 34 rotation, followed by a tricky game against Chelsea in GW 35. If you are one of the 14.5% owning De Bruyne, you should definitely consider to let go.
