What is Gaffr? What Are The Rules and How to Play?

Gaffr at the outset is a Fantasy Football game based around the EFL Championship, the second tier in the English Football League system. It was developed last season by a group of individuals from Dublin, Ireland with the goal of getting more Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers involved in the game and bringing the EFL Championship and its players to a wider audience.

HOW DOES GAFFR WORK:

Much like FPL, you start off with an initial budget of 100.0 and you must select a team with the following structure:

2 goalkeepers, 5 defenders, 5 midfielders and 3 forwards, with the stipulation of having only 3 players from any one team.

When it comes to picking your captain, there is a slight difference between FPL and Gaffr. In FPL you can only have either a captain or vice captain, whereas with Gaffr you get the addition of the emergency captain.

Captain: Points are doubled

Vice Captain: Points will be multiplied by 1.5 and rounded down if result is not a whole number, for example, 5 would become 7

Emergency Captain: Will fill the role of captain or vice captain if either players play 0 minutes. If both captain and vice captain do not play then role of captain will be prioritised, i.e, emergency captain will receive double points and there will be no vice captain multiplier for team.

In Gaffr you are issued with performance points for a player, unlike that of Fantasy Premier League.

Each player’s performance will be rated according to the below table.

The 4 highest rated players will receive +4, +3, +2 and +1 points respectively.

If there is a tie at any rank then all players at that rank will receive the same points at that level. A minimum of 4 different players will receive performance points. For example, if four players tie for the highest score they will all receive +4 points and no further performance points will be allocated.

Boosts:

Boosts in Gaffr are kind of along the same lines as Chips in FPL.

There are a number of different Boosts you can play to give yourself an advantage in a given gameweek.

You have the option of playing any 3 Boosts from a pool of 6.

These can be played at any time but you can only play one Boost in a gameweek. The pool will refresh every 15 gameweeks so you will have 9 Boosts (3 per pool) in total to play across the entire season:

• Gameweeks 1 – 15
• Gameweeks 16 – 30
• Gameweeks 31 – 46.

Not every pool will contain the same boosts so don’t count on being able to play three Multi Captains in the season!

Overhaul: You can make unlimited transfers for the Gameweek. These are permanent changes to your team. They will not revert the following gameweek.

Super Subs: All substitute points scored count towards total.

Captain Fantastic: Captain will score triple and vice captain will score double. Normal Emergency Captain rules apply.

Park The Bus: Defenders score double. No captain multipliers applied for any player or position. Midfield Generalsx1.5 multiplier applied to all midfielders (score rounded down if not a whole number)No captain multipliers applied for any player or position.

Multi Captain: Captain, Vice Captain & Emergency Captain all score double.

Optimal Captain: Optimal captain choices will be applied automatically. Only players in starting eleven are included.

Goalfest: Each goal scored adds an additional 5 points to total. This includes penalties and goals scored by substitutes. Captain multipliers do not apply to the 5 point bonus. Midfield Dynamos x2 multiplier applied to midfielders. No captain multipliers applied for any player or position

That is just a small overview between the similarities and differences between Gaffr and FPL. We hope you all come, play and enjoy this season.
