Euro Fantasy Football Quarter Finals | Top Picks, and Strategy

Hey guys and welcome back after a very weird Matchday 4.ย So already a couple of shocks in terms of the underdogs performing much better than we anticipated. A lot of players had 3-4 assets for Netherlands and with then exiting the euros those like me without a wildcard will be scrambling to get those teams ready. France then proceeded to get knocked out by an inconsistent Switzerland side in a penalty shootout which lit up the tournament and surprised everyone. This again similar to Netherlands had a huge effect on squads as managers had 2-3 players from the french. In this Euro Fantasy Quarter-Finals blog, weโ€™ll look at teams/player potential paths, stats, form, and immediate opponents to determine some of the best options to transfer in for Matchday 5. This will help both types of managers with or without the wildcard.

Firstly we know that for those without the wildcard have 3 transfers to play with before the deadline. Itโ€™s also very important that before the semi finals we have 5 free transfers each , knowing we can take a chance on a player potentially.

For me the best teams to target is both England and Spain for both their opponent and likeliness of going further.

Note: As it is now the quarter finals 5 players are now allow to be selected form each team.

Itโ€™s also important to remember that Spain v Switzerland is the first quarter final game playing which means we can coordinate out transfers around the Spanish lineup as we get it before the deadline.

So letโ€™s take a looks at some of the best options out there.ย

Goalkeepers for Euro Fantasy Quarter Finals

Jordan Pickford (England)

Cost: 5.7 millionย

9 clean sheets in their last 10 matches for England and conceding not one single goal since the euros started. This reflects just how strong that backline is for the English.

Playing against an inconsistent Ukraine team losing 2 of their last 4 matches.

Jordan Pickford now with a massive 24 points after 4 games and 4 clean sheets seems the biggest reason for bringing him into your team.

Kasper Schmeichel (Denmark)

Cost: 5 Millionย

After Denmark dismantled Wales in the last 16 and kept clean sheet, Denmark look to have momentum behind them.

The Danes all around team balance from front to back is impressive, with goals being scored by all 3 outfield positions ; defence , midfield and forwards.

We know that the Danes now play the Czech Republic in the quarter finals. The Czech Republic have shown inconsistency, although impressive at the back and have only conceded 2 goals during their Euros campaign they still donโ€™t convince me up top.

5 clean sheets in their last 10 matches doesnโ€™t reflect how good they can be in defence. Before the euros they had kept 7 out of 10 clean sheets showing that the Danes can be very solid at the back.

The Danish have the incident with Eriksen as motivation , the backing of more than just one nation, the team balance and even the quality to make it a long term campaign and so Schmeichel becomes a great option.

Defenders for Euro Fantasy Quarter Finals

Maehleย (Denmark)

Euro Fantasy Round Of 16 ~ Mahele

Cost: 4.7 million

Hands down one of the best assets in the game based on value for money.

What Maehle offers on the game at his price point is unmatched.

We know how good defensively Denmark can be after looking at the stats we did when discussing Kasper Schmeichel. The constant clean sheet potential is fantastic, but letโ€™s get to the good part.

The heat map below is collective data from all 4 matches the Danes have currently played in the positions that Maehle likes to take up. Very attacking. Making countless runs into the box and threatening the goal himself.

23 points totalled so far from Maehle during the Euros. Thatโ€™s just under an average of 6 points per game, absolutely fantastic, especially because of his price.

In the four games played so far in this campaign Maehle has kept 1 clean sheet and scored 2 goals showing that the clean sheets are a bonus and the goals are common unlike most defenders.

Against an inconsistent Czech Republic , with scoring form, cheap and in a well balanced and confident team, Maehle is without a doubt an easy selection.

Laporte (Spain)

Cost: 6.2 millionย

Firstly the price, high isnโ€™t it? Well, Laporte has avoided rotation at the back unlike the likes of Pau Torres, Garcia, Azpilicueta, Gaya, and Alba. This means Laporte comes in as the most nailed defender on the Spanish side. In fact, heโ€™s now started every Euros game that Spain have played in.ย

Is the cost that much of a big deal? Well no because a lot of the pricey options playing for the countries like France and Netherlands have now been knocked out meaning we have more cheap options and less expensive options giving us a bit more money.

Spain have shown they can be great defensively in recent times. 2 clean sheets in the last 4 matches for Laporte isnโ€™t bad but when you add the goal he scored in that same period we are then looking at 3 returns in 4 matches which is great.

Spain arguably have one of the best ties in the quarter finals against Switzerland who can be very inconsistent.

Laporte has to be considered. At a price we can all afford now , an arguably great tie , with attacking threat from set pieces and great returning form he should be well thought of.

Luke Shaw (England)

Cost: 6.1 millionย

Luke Shaw makes my article for the first time during the euros.

His nailedness has been questioned along with all of the other wing backs due to rotation. After 3 full matches started in a row for Shaw he now seems to be first choice.

With 9 out 10 clean sheets for England and 4 clean sheets out of 4 during the Euros the England defence looks as solid as itโ€™s looked for years in a competitive competition.

Luke Shawโ€™ price reflects that of the fine defensive record but offensive potential as well. You will see below heat maps for both club and country showing how ambitious Shaw likes to play in terms of moving forward.

Club:

Country:

With 3 clean sheets and an assist in the 3 matches played , accumulating to 4 returns in 3 games shows Fantasy gold in terms of form.

Against an inconsistent side Ukraine who like to push their wing backs forward Shaw could really punish them.

With money to utilise in every position on the pitch, playing for a solid defence , potential for attacking returns and returning 21 fantasy points in his last 3 games averaging 7 points per match Luke Shaw has to make that quarter final team.

Spinazzola (Italy)ย

Cost: 5.6 millionย

Spinazzola has made nearly every single one of my articles and for many reasons.

Itโ€™s well known how strong Italy are defensively. Keeping 9 clean sheets in their last 10 matches reflects that. This shows that for the price itโ€™s already really good value.

Going forward Spinazzola has shown the world how good he really is with being one the stars of the Euros already.

You can see below how attacking Spinazzola really is in the heat map. Making darting runs consistently down the wing he becomes a very dangerous asset for country.

20 points including 2 assists and 2 clean sheets in 3 matches shows Spinazzola has potential to return points from both ends of the pitch.

Meunier (Belgium)

Cost: 5.7 million

A pricey defender but potentially a good option.

Over a long period of recent history Belgium havenโ€™t been fantastic when it comes to clean sheets. However more recently have only conceded 1 goal in their last 5 suggesting their backline could be well and truly be strengthening. The clean sheet against Italy may look unlikely but stats suggest otherwise.

We havenโ€™t paid all that money for just the likeliness of a clean sheet though have we?

Youโ€™ll see how attacking Meunier likes to be in the heat maps below for both club and country.

Club:

Country:

In fact scoring a goal and creating 2 assists in his last 3 games shows that he doesnโ€™t need clean sheets to return points. 27 points returned in his last four matches during the Euros, averaging just under 7 points per game , which is fantastic.ย

Meunier becomes an option for both reasons defensively and offensively. Belgium could well make it all the way to the final aswell , looking like an all around team, similar to England.

Midfielders for Euro Fantasy Quarter Finals

Damsgaard (Denmark)ย

Cost: 6.1 millionย

Damsgaard has now started the last 3 matches in a row now Denmark due to good form. Showing reliability of minutes.

Letโ€™s just address the most important thing combined with form here and thatโ€™s his price. 6.1 million is a fantastic price point to allow you stock up on the more expensive assets playing in the quarter finals.

Itโ€™s also a factor that although labelled a midfielder in the game simple to Berardi in price and the fact they both play as part of a front 3. Representing a great opportunity already in cost and position on the field to up his potential of returns.

As you can see below Damsgaard shows versatility in his position playing for his club Sampdoria.

The young 20 year old looks hungry and well suited to a world stage like the Euros already. Within a healthy, well balanced team , Damsgaard has both scored and created an assist in his last 3 matches for Denmark.

Before the Euros the Czech Republic conceded 12 goals in the last 10 matches. Although theyโ€™ve tightened up now defensively they arguably got to this point by playing โ€˜stronger countriesโ€™ and how sure we are the Czech Republic will be defensive/counter attack minded is debatable.

There is a chance Czech Republic like Wales attack this game , therefore leaving space to the clinical Danes who have now scored 9 goals in 4 games. One of the best in the Euros for goals.

Damsgaard becomes a fantastic option in every sense of the word. Cost is cheap , form is great, opponent debatable and inconsistent in the past and in a danish side that canโ€™t stop scoring. For that reason makes that quarter final draft.

Sarabia (Spain)ย

Cost: 6.7 millionย

Serabiaโ€™ risk of starting was questioned heavily due to not actually starting any of Spainโ€™s first 2 matches in the euros, but after starting both of the last 2 appears nailed as well as in form which weโ€™ll discuss.

Youโ€™ll also see the price tag. A great price for a midfielder of his quality in a free scoring team who have scored 11 goals in their last 4 matches. One of the highest in the euros.

Sarabia only started 13 games for PSG and only featured in an additional 14. Scoring 6 goals and creating 4 in an out of sorts PSG who failed to pick up the league title in the Season gone.

Check out his heat map for PSG this season highlighting his versatility to switch wings and make big runs into the opponents box

A huge 21 points in his last 2 matches for Spain, scoring 2 and creating 2 assists accumulating to 4 goal contributions in 2 matches is fantastic.

Serabia and Spain play an inconsistent Switzerland who shocked the world by knocking the World champions out. Although in great scoring form Switzerland show a lack of form at the back shipping 4 goals in their last two games.

Showing a great enabling price , against an inconsistent opponent, in great form and seemingly nailed to the Spanish team, Serabia becomes a fantastic option.

Sterlingย (England)

Cost: 9.7 millionย

Sterling has had a questionable form with Man City this year struggling to maintain a long period of time in English champions first team.

Some questioned whether he was the same player and if he still had it in him.

For Southgate sterling has become a player he can trust which indicates that heโ€™s likely to be nailed to the England first team every match.

Although labelled as a midfielder Sterling often ends up in forward positions. Check out his heat map from this Euros campaign so far below.

3 goals in his last 4 matches for England proving to be a major tool in Southgates attack and instrumental in Englandโ€™s progress during the Euros. Accumulating 27 points one of the highest scoring midfielders in the game so far.

Playing against a Ukraine side that have conceded 6 goals in their last 4 showing they can be defensively poor.

In a what seems to be an unstoppable England team who havenโ€™t conceded a goal yet , indicating the clean sheet point could also be up for grabs, in great scoring form himself , at a nice price , sterling becomes a great option.

Ferran Torresย (Spain)

Cost: 8.1 millionย

We already know a lot about Spain in terms of going forward. When they dismantled the Croatia team 5-3 they had 5 different goal scorers and Ferran was one of them, even better also created an assist for another one.

11 goals in their last 3 games for Spain suggest they are the opposite of the wild opinions of them not scoring. In fact Spain create that many chances their always going to miss a few and even after that their still putting plenty of goals past their opponent.

Ferran similar to Sarabia is labelled as a midfielder in the game but takes up a forward role for large parts of the game due to the dominance of Spain recently. Youโ€™ll see Torresโ€™ versatility and hunger to attack all areas of the opponents half in the heat maps below for both club and country

Club:

Country:

Although Torres has become rotational he has featured or started in every match for Spain so far.

20 points so far with only 2 starts and 2 features averaging 5 points per game.

Luckily we get to see the Spain lineups to decide who we choose to bring in and whether Torres starts or not he could be a lethal player against a Switzerland team conceding lots of goals.

Kevin De Bruyneย (Belgium)

Cost: 10.7 millionย

Although the Euro Fantasy app suggests KDB is doubtful Sky Sports have cleared him as fit and ready to start against Italy.

Italy are very strong and capable at the back we know this. However cracks may have started to appear in the backline after the Austria fought back. Austria we know were very inconsistent and probably not even in the top 10 in the tournament in terms of going forward. This suggests Belgium, the team ranked number 1 in world can really get to the Italians.

KDB is so instrumental in the team and we saw that in how poor the Belgians were when he came off against Portugal. When playing though Belgium come to life.

Firstly Belgium have not failed to score a goal since 2018 29 matches ago which straight away is fantastic.

4 goals and 7 assists in the qualifying stage , creating 11 goals in 6 games.

For me Kevin De Bruyne has been an option every matchday and rightly so. 17 point so far in the only 180 minutes (2 games of football) averaging 8.5 points per game.

For me KDB becomes an option, again.

Forwards for Euro Fantasy Quarter Finals

Harry Kaneย (England)

Cost: 11.5 millionย

Kane comes off the back of a fantastic individual season picking up the golden boot and beating salah scoring 23 goals and creating 14 assists contributing to 37 goals in the 35 games he played which is amazing.

Kane is the designated England penalty taker giving him even more of an edge for points over other options in this article.

With 12 goals and 4 assists in the 8 Euro qualifier games accumulating to 16 in 8 and on average contributing to 2 goals per game is an eye watering amount.

England as a team scoring 19 goals in their last 10 matches with 1.9 goals on average per match is the kind of stat you want when looking at assets from a team to bring in.

Kane himself had a slow start to the Euros campaign after rumours around his future in question really could of been a huge distraction. But now after scoring against rivals Germany heโ€™s back in scoring form and Iโ€™m not sure he can be stopped once he starts.

Although expensive Kane has all the attributes to really take this fixture against Ukraine by the scruff of its neck. On top of that Kane also becomes a captaincy option furthering his appeal for this matchday.

Dolberg (Denmark)

Cost: 7 millionย

Initially the cost again Fantastic.

You wonโ€™t find many nailed in form forwards at this price thatโ€™s for sure and making him and even more of an attractive pick , again similar to the other danish picks, enables you to re vitalise the rest of your squad with pricey options.

Dolberg being nailed to start is questionable however with injuries in the squad he becomes a great option for Denmark.

Scoring a brace against wales reflects both firing form and a high level of confidence which could be impossible to ignore by both the danish manager and euro Fantasy managers.

With 9 goals in the campaign so far Denmark have shown the rest of the countries that they have what it takes to compete and against a Czech Republic who again could attack this game and leave plenty of space in behind could be a fantastic option.

Dolberg has firing form, a fantastic enabling price, an arguably good fixture and the strength of a nation reborn to make him a great pick for the quarter finals.

Morata (Spain)

Cost: 9.1 millionย

Firstly considering a lot of other options within the game in the forward position are quite highly priced 9.1 million seems like a budget player.

Morata lately criticised and sent hate from home fans already suggests the motivation is there.

For juventus playing 32 games, scoring 11 , assisting 9 means a total of 20 goal contributions out of 32 in an off form juventus I think is great.

The only competition for his forward spot is Moreno who had played very limited game time for country during the euros campaign and not even featuring in their last game against Croatia. From this shows a reliability for minutes.

So far only scoring 14 points returned but the points only telling half his story. His confidence was flat and combined with the criticism should of really put Morata down. It didnโ€™t and not only started but scored a goal at top class level showing great confidence in the finish.

Spain have been free scoring as much as theyโ€™ve been criticised for not finishing chances. The fact is their creating so many chances but also scoring. 10 goals scored in their last matches reflects that.

Spain go up against a Switzerland who will feel confident going into the game after a shock win against France. The problem is they also conceded 3 and in their last four games have conceded 7 , this reflects that they really are in poor form at the back.

With a reasonable price tag, huge motivation , new found confidence and in a free firing team, against a conceding opponent Morata has to be considered.

Patrik Schick (Czech Republic)

Cost: 8.6 millionย

Youโ€™ll notice Iโ€™ve already indicated 2 defensive players for Denmark. Spreading the risk could be vital in making sure your not down and out after the quarter finals similar to many of those who owned several numbers of players from France and Netherlands in the last round.

To cover all angles and spread the risk we have to be looking at Schick.

Firstly check out his heat map for club Bayer Leverkusen below showing the areas he likes to operate in. Youโ€™ll see from the redder areas he predominantly lies within the opponents box which is exactly where you want and attacking player in your team.

Czech showed strength in their match against a very potent attack in Netherlands. Suggesting their a much tougher team the majority make them out to be.

Although inconsistent at the back the Czechโ€™ have an appetite for goals scoring 5 in their last 4 matches.

Their opponents Denmark, although appearing to be strengthening at the back have still only kept one clean sheet in the 4 matches played suggesting theres definitely potential for Schick.

4 goals in his last 4 matches for Patrick showing incredible scoring form. Thatโ€™s 27 points in those same matches, just under an average of 7 points returned per match, again fantastic.

Knowing we have 5 transfers after this stage, against a Denmark who arguably still have leaks in their back line, in scoring form and in a team that have fight Patrik Schick becomes a great option.
