2021/22 Gaffr Championship Fantasy GW1 Team Reveal

After many weeks of changing my gaffr team around and looking at different options and strategies, I have finally locked in my team ahead of the GW1 deadline on Friday evening. I am hoping that I have made the right choices within my squad and that I have chosen a good strategy. I have decided to play the ‘Away Day’ boost in gameweek 2 which has had a massive impact on my gameweek 1 selection. I will explain and justify my decisions in this article, let’s get straight into it!

GW1 Gaffr fantasy team ~ Goalkeepers

The goalkeepers I have selected are Travers and Moore. Travers will be my starting goalkeeper and this is because at 5m I think he will be of great value assuming he is the number one at Bournemouth. I expect him to get a lot of clean sheets and also a few save points throughout the early stages of the season.

I have decided to go with Moore from Coventry at 4m as he is the cheapest option and there is a decent chance he starts the season for Coventry. Having a 4m goalkeeper is a great option and I could potentially start him some gameweeks if he has a good fixture on paper, he seems like a no-brainer to me!

GW1 Gaffr fantasy team ~ Defenders

I have spent quite a lot on defenders and I plan to play 4 or 5 at the back most gameweeks as defenders offer great value in this game. Tete is in my team from Fulham as I think he has a lot of potential for attacking returns and at 6m I feel like he is a great option as I expect Fulham to keep a lot of clean sheets this season. Townsend is another fullback I have selected and this is because he is likely to play in a wingback role therefore I expect him to get high up the pitch. He has performed well in pre-season and I expect West Brom to pick up plenty of clean sheets throughout the season.

I have gone for the Cardiff double up in defence with Ng and Flint as I really like Cardiff’s fixtures early on and at 5m I think they both offer great value as I expect clean sheets early on. Ng has a lot of potential to deliver assists in the wingback role and Flint is a massive goal threat from set-pieces. My final pick in defense is Dickie from QPR. I like the look of their fixtures early on and I fancy QPR to start the season strongly. In addition, I feel like Dickie is quite a safe pick and should be good for clean sheet points early on.

GW1 Gaffr fantasy team ~ Midfielders

I am looking to play 3 midfielders throughout the early stages of the season. Harry Wilson is straight in my team as he impressed me last season at Cardiff and I feel like this season he will only get better. Being on set pieces and playing with Mitrovic I feel like he has a great chance of getting a lot of assists this season as well as bonus points.

I have decided to go with Powell from Stoke as I really liked him last season and he is the talisman at Stoke and should be heavily involved in the attacking side of the game. I expect him to get even better numbers than he did last season as I feel like Stoke will be stronger than they were last season.

Willock from QPR is in my team because I feel like he has the potential to offer great value and I fancy QPR to score quite a few goals early on. He has looked good in pre-season and should get in and around the box, I fancy him to start the season well.

The two other midfielders in my team are O’Hare and Ward. Both players look set to start. O’Hare has good potential for attacking returns playing higher up the pitch for Coventry and I feel like at 5m he offers great value from the bench. Ward looks like he will play for Peterborough and I think that he is the best option at 4.5m in my opinion because he seems like he is pretty nailed in the side at the moment.

GW1 Gaffr fantasy team ~ Strikers

I plan to play 3 strikers in the early stages of the season and I have spent a lot on my forwards. I have picked Mitrovic as I feel like he will have a great season due to the fact he always scores a lot of goals in this division which is why he is my captain for gameweek 1 against Middlesborough.

Austin is also in my team as he has looked great in pre-season and I like the look of his fixtures early on, he is another player who has a great record in this division. Austin could also be on penalties too.

He is going to be my vice-captain against Millwall in gameweek 1.  Solanke is the third striker in my team because I think he has the potential to score in any game and he also has appealing fixtures early on. Furthermore, I am confident Bournemouth will score a lot of goals and I expect him to be heavily involved. Solanke will be my emergency captain in gameweek 1.
