Let’s dive right into it. We will start with the first one.

FPL GW30 Tips – Key Questions/Dilemmas Answered

1) Is it okay to play the Wildcard this week?

Managers who didn’t play their Free Hit in GW29 might have loaded up on players from Luton, considering they had a double gameweek in GW29. Luton now has a terrible run of fixtures. It does make sense to get rid of their players if you have double- or triple-ups. Using the Wildcard this week will help you do that.

Also, Salah is expected to return after his involvement in AFCON, a hamstring injury, and a couple of Blank Gameweeks. He faces Brighton and Sheffield United next, and a double is confirmed for Liverpool in Gameweek 34. Many managers might have to make some transfers or even more to bring Salah back, and a Wildcard lets you get him straight away. This is the biggest plus for using the Wildcard right now.

The disadvantage of using the Wildcard chip right now is the lack of information between GW30 and GW35/36. What I mean by that is there are a few injured players who are out who may/may not come back for this run between 30-35. We still don’t know who plays LB in Robertson’s absence or when Trent will be back. There is no return timeline on Jota as well right now. We also need to consider whether we can really trust Gusto from Chelsea, especially when James is nearing a return.

These are all legit concerns most FPL managers may have right now, and you will have to do a bit of guesswork if you are Wildcarding right now.

Arsenal, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Everton, Liverpool, Sheffield United, and Wolves are doubling in Gameweek 34. For many managers, getting these players with “Free Transfers” may reduce the effectiveness of a Wildcard in GW30.

Lastly, the fixtures for teams like Aston Villa, Fulham, Tottenham and West Ham are all right this week. There is no need to panic just yet, and you can easily play your players from these teams this week.

It is still very team-dependent, and if you have loaded up on Luton players, Reguilion or some other injured players, you can’t get Salah in one move. Using the Wildcard in GW30 makes sense. You can wait for more information for all different scenarios and use the chip accordingly.

2) How do you structure your Wildcard team in GW30?

GW30 is the start of a Wildcard playing window for many FPL managers. Nailing the right team has become easier this week as we got clarity on the doubles in GW34.

You have a few decisions to make. The most important is what to do with Haaland (have him/ignore him) and whether to go with premiums like Salah and Son or a more balanced approach that involves some guesswork for GW35 and GW36.

Let’s finish the easy bits first. I still don’t think spending much money on goalkeepers is worth it. It’s still okay to look for a cheap rotating combination or have 1 cheap playing goalkeeper in your team. Areola/Dubravka is a decent playing goalkeeper combination.

If you are looking for one playing keeper with a slightly higher budget, look at Neto (£4.7m) from Bournemouth. The team is doubling in GW34, and he can be okay with that. The other option is Pickford from Everton, who also doubles in GW34. Even Petrovic can be an option if you have some faith left in Chelsea. Chelsea is confirmed to have 2 double gameweeks, and you can benefit from the number of fixtures at the very least.

Going with one defensive cover from Chelsea is okay. You can choose Malo Gusto (£4.2m) as a budget defender option. His position can be threatened once James returns to the team, but I feel he is okay with that price.

My next suggestion is to have an Arsenal defender (Gabriel is still the cheapest). Arsenal has a tricky GW30 fixture against Man City, but Arsenal’s defense has been the best in the league this season, and Gabriel can score goals as well. Saliba will be the alternative defender from Arsenal if he is confirmed out.

Regarding other defensive options, Rayan Aït-Nouri and Branthwaite could be cheaper defensive options from teams likely to double during the remainder of the season. The most significant advantage of all these picks is that you can invest more money in midfielders/forwards, where the actual points are this season.

You need to decide in midfield. I think keeping Salah and Son makes sense. You are looking at two talismans for their respective teams, who are expected to do well in attack. Bukayo Saka is also a keep if he is fit despite the challenging game against Man City in GW30.

Other potential options include Palmer, a strong-budget midfielder from Chelsea. He provides excellent value at that price point and has two doubles until the season ends. The 5th player is Foden, who gives you an additional Man City attacker cover. Like Palmer, he provides much value at his respective price point. Accordingly, this is the best and most robust midfield five.

Haaland, for me, is still a good pick! You can also retain the likes of Watkins and Solanke for your attackers if you already have them. If you still need to, get both on your team. Both have been in good form and are among the top 3 attackers in the game. If you can’t afford one of Watkins/Solanke right now, you can even choose Muniz as a cheap option on a Wildcard. This will most likely be the case if you go for the robust 5 midfield options mentioned above.

Alternatively, you can offload Watkins for the likes of Darwin or Isak based on your chip strategy as Aston Villa don’t double again this season.

3) What to do with Mohamed Salah ahead of FPL GW30?

As mentioned in the earlier section, Mohamed Salah hasn’t been in our consideration for quite some time now. First, it was AFCON, then his injuries, followed by a blank gameweek for Liverpool. Finally, we have a window where he is available, playing well, and has some good fixtures coming up.

I expect him to start against Brighton and do well. You should get him if you have an easy route to Salah, i.e., selling KDB or a different player. Even for a -4, considering his potential, he is okay with getting in this week. He is also a strong captaincy option for GW30.

If you have other fires to put out, first see if they can be avoided for now and dealt with in GW31. You can even use your Wildcard to bail yourself out of this situation. If you don’t want to follow that route, take this fixture against Brighton on the chin and get Salah in next week.

But for me, getting Salah is a priority. If he does well, getting on him early and captaining him this week can work wonders for your rank.

4) Is it time to sell Arsenal and Man City players?

Many managers might find this question odd, but there is a genuine conversation to have here. Arsenal and Man City play each other this week; the result could be absolutely anything. It’s tough to predict the outcome, and the potential ceiling for your Arsenal and Man City also may not be very high (unless, of course, one team dominates this fixture)

Injury News Ahead of FPL GW30

The Arsenal defence and Bukayo Saka, in particular, have been excellent from an FPL point of view. Arsenal players can quickly tick along, but Saka withdrew from International duty because of an injury. If there is one, the extent of this knock/injury is unknown.

Deciding whether to hold him isn’t easy, with hardly any proper updates. The same can be said for Gabriel, who also has a flag right now. There is a case to sell him, especially if he is doubtful about GW30. Selling him can fund you some extra money to get to Salah.

Man City players give us a similar dilemma. Any Man City defenders or even KDB are a sell for me. Man City’s defence doesn’t provide any clear upside like Arsenal’s. You can go cheap here.

KDB had a flag but Pep confirmed that he has trained well, but more than that, better replacements are available for Salah and Son. Foden is the other midfielder from City. With a few ideal replacements besides Son, you can hold Foden and reassess next week. You can even sell him if taking him out helps you get Salah somehow.

Haaland is tricky to call. If you sold him to get a Blank Gameweek 29 player, you don’t have to get him back this week. Prioritizing Salah over him is risky, but it could be worth it.

That will be all from my side for this week! I wish you all the best for FPL Gameweek 30, and I will see you all next week.
