In this blog, we’ll deep dive and predict the GW1 lineups of all 20 PL teams going into GW1 of the 2023/24 Premier League season.

Predicted GW1 Lineups of All 20 PL Teams

Arsenal

Arsenal have made some big signing in the summer window but have also lost Gabriel Jesus for the beginning of the season due to injury.

Arsenal won the community shield game vs Man City playing Havertz in the False 9 role with Odegaard, Rice, and Partey in midfield. However, Trossard could come in for Partey against Forest in GW1.

Zinchenko is back in training but GW1 will be too soon for him to make a return especially give the fact that he did not feature in pre-season at all.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa had a brilliant pre-season scoring 14 goals in six games, the additions of Diaby, and Pau Torres have further strengthened the team as they’ll be playing in Europe as well this season. When everything was going well, bad news struck Aston Villa with Emi Buendia sustaining a significant knee ligament injury and will be out for a long time. The Aston Villa midfielder scored 3 goals and picked up an assist in pre-season!

Jacob Ramsey is ruled out for GW1 as well after sustaining an injury in the U21 Euros, Alex Moreno too is out until September

Bournemouth

Bournemouth are one of the teams outside the top six who have been very active in the transfer market and also have a new manager, Andoni Iraola. He’s known to be an attacking manager and the Cherries failed to score in only one of their 5 pre-season games. In a total of 5 pre-season games, they scored 10 goals!

The defence is settled for Bournemouth and they should go in with Anthony, Sensei, Zabarnyi, and Kerkez as their back four.

Attack and midfield could see a lot of close calls with Rothwell, Brooks, and Moore all capable of starting over Billing, Kluivert, and Solanke.

New signing Alex Scott who joins from Bristol City is injured and will be not in consideration for selection.

Max Aarons has also joined Bournemouth from Norwich City but GW1 might be too early for him to feature.

Brighton

Brighton are once again one of the teams who have been heavily talked about ahead of the new season. Brighton have lost World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister and Goalkeeper Sanchez. But the seagulls have also signed Joao Pedro, Bart Verbruggen, and Dahoud.

Joao Pedro has been heavily preferred in the 2nd striker role over Enciso in pre-season and Welbeck has been preferred over Evan Ferguson.

Brentford

Brentford have lost Raya to Arsenal and will be without star striker Toney who is suspended. The Bees have got Flekken as a replacement for Raya and have also added Collins from Wolves.

Flekken was slightly shaky in the initial few games but looked good against Lille and made some good saves. He should be the first choice GK going into the new season.

“We expect both of them to be available on Sunday. Of course, we need to assess them over the next couple of days” Thomas Frank on Mbeumo and Onyeka who were both subbed off early in their pre-season game vs Lille.

Mbeumo was also spotted in training during the week which all but confirms that he’s fit and available for selection.

Burnley

Burnley are once again back in the premier league and are a completely different side compared to the previous Burnley team in the Premier League. Under Man City legend, Vincent Kompany, Burnley broke a lot of Championship records last season to make their way back to the Premier League. They have also added quality signings over the summer to strengthen their squad.

Chelsea

A lot has changed at Chelsea in the last few months with Pochettinho taking charge of Chelsea as their new manager. Poch prefers a 4-2-3-1 system and the backline should be James, Silva, Colwill, and Chilwell. The injury to Nkunku means the number 10 role is most likely to be fulfilled by Chukwuemeka(4.5 Million Midfielder in FPL), there is also a chance that Maatsen could play there too. Nicolas Jackson should start as the first-choice number 9 after impressing in pre-season scoring 2 goals and picking up three assists.

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace ended the season strongly under Roy Hodgson and he has extended his contract by another season. The Eagles have lost club legend Zaha but have been good in pre-season with Eze picking up the talismanic duties, he registered 2 goals and five assists for Palace in Pre-season and is also on set piece, corners, and penalties for Palace.

Talented Chelsea youngster Lewis Hall is expected to join the Eagles on Loan but that deal will not happen in time for him to play Sheffield United in GW1.

Olise is still injured and not available for selection, New Palace signing Matheus Franca will also miss the start of the season as he’s carrying an injury currently.

Crystal Palace Predicted Formation

Everton

Arnaut Danjuma and James Tarkowski are back in training. Dwight McNeil is also out after suffering an injury in pre-season. A late decision will be made on the inclusion of DCL in the squad according to Dyche in his pre-game presser. Coleman and Dele are also long-term absentees.

Danjuma might play out of position as a forward if DCL doesn’t start(Most likely). Alternatively, Maupay can play up top and Danjuma could start from the LW.

Fulham

Fulham had a rollercoaster pre-season with Mitrovic wanting to leave, Marco Silva being rumored to join Saudi League. But in the end, Silva committed to staying at Fulham, and Mitrovic is also now expected to stay at Fulham. Bassey and Raul are the new signings for Fulham and both are expected to be in the playing 11 against Everton.

“João is out,” our Head Coach confirmed. “He’s been doing individual work but not full work with the team yet. “We have to assess some of the others, some knocks the last few games, last few days as well,” Silva said. “There are some doubts, like Andreas Pereira and some of the other players.

“Mitro was able to play two games last week. He played behind closed doors 60 minutes against Hoffenheim. We played two games against Hoffenheim last week. And, after, he played 30 minutes against Hoffenheim again at the Cottage”

Luton Town

Luton has the interest of FPL Managers- Thanks to bench fodder options. Luton Town will have two 4.0 Defenders(Bell and Kabore) in the starting 11 with Kabore the most attacking at RWB. Nakamba is the nailed 4.5 midfielder as well. Morris is the goal-threat in the team who has a great partnership with Adebayo.

Mads Andersen did not play the last pre-season friendly game but only missed out because of sickness. But he should be back for GW1. Manager Rob Edwards confirmed that Potts and Jordan Clark will miss GW1- “We’re still waiting for a few more tests, but they won’t be fit for the next few weeks.”

Liverpool

Liverpool attackers have also been in excellent form in pre-season in pre-season and all of them are fit which makes it difficult to nail down the picks. Salah, Nunez, Jota, Gakpo, and Diaz will be competing for 3 attacking slots(maybe 4).

Manchester City

Kevin De Bruyne came on as a sub in the FA Cup Community Shield and looked good. But that was the only game he played in pre-season. He might be getting few more games off the bench before starting games. If KDB is fit to start, Alavrez is likely to make way. Pep on new signing Gvardiol- “Yeah, he’s ready. He’s settled in, perfect.” Pep also mentioned that Ake is “training good” and “ready” too.

There are slight chances that Ortega may get a run-in from GW1. So wait and watch for some early team leaks that you may have a starting 4.0 million Manchester City Keeper. Ruben Dias is rumored to miss out on GW1 due to a concussion protocol. Gvardiol could right away make his Premier League debut.

Manchester United

With new signing Hojlund not fully fit now, Rashford is expected to start up front at least for the first few weeks. Antony Martial was not involved in pre-season as he is building his fitness- He should also miss out.

Garnacho is expected to start ahead of Sancho on the left wing. Dalot/Wan Bissaka might be call to make, but against teams like Wolves at home where United will have most of the ball it is likely to be Dalot.

Newcastle United

Schar has missed the last few pre-season games but he is “close” to joining the group and should make it for GW1. Willock is still out with the injury he suffered during last season.

Predicting Newcastle’s front 3 will not be easy this season. Wilson vs Isak(ST), Isak vs Barnes vs Gordon(LW), and Almiron vs Gordon(RW) are all not straightforward calls. For GW1, we are going with Almiron-Isak-Barnes purely based on pre-season minutes and form but could be totally wrong with Wilson and Gordon starting.

Trippier – Schar – Botman – Burn

Tonali – Bruno – Joelinton

Nottingham Forest

Cooper indicated that Niakhate and Awoniyi are likely to miss out for GW1- “Moussa(Niakhate) is just about returning to training, and so is Taiwo(Awoniyi), so the game probably comes too soon for them.” – Steve Cooper via Forest Youtube.

New signing and FPL Favorite at just 4.0 million Turner will be making his Forest debut.

Sheffield United

Sheffield United have lost two of their star players Ndiaye and Berge in a matter of few days. The Man City duo of Tommy Doyle and James McAtee don’t seem to return on loan again as well which has put Sheffield in a spot of bother. Cameron Archer is expected to join the Blades from Aston Villa but the deal is not done yet. 4.5 Million forward Osula should start in GW1.

Spurs

Spurs are a completely different team under Ange Postecoglou and have been playing attacking football throughout the pre-season. But Spurs have lost star striker and club legend Harry Kane days before the season after he agreed to a move to Bayern Munich. To make things worse Spurs attacker Richarlison who could play in the forward role is also apparently injured.

Spurs signed young Argentinian forward, Alejo Véliz but it’s highly unlikely that Ange directly starts him with no pre-season as well for the 19-year-old highly-rated forward.

West Ham

West Ham lost Declan Rice during the summer and have made just one new signing in Edson Álvarez who joins from Ajax. The hammers are also linked with Ward Prowse, McTominay, and Harry Maguire but all these deals are yet to be completed. Additionally, Man City now want Paqueta an he could also be on his way out after just one season at the London stadium.

Wolves

Wolves lost Ruben Neves early in the window and throughout the pre-season, a lot of Wolves players were sold which frustrated Julen Lopetegui who eventually left the role. Forme Bournemouth Manager Gary O’Neil is now th e Wolves manager.
