Best FPL Budget Enablers

FPL Budget Enablers DefendersΒ (Β£4.5 or below)Β

Rico Henry BRE Β£4.5

Rico Henry was as reliable as they came for Brentford last season, starting 37 games and providing 3 assists from an xGI of 4.70. As shown in the heatmap, Henry has the license to go forward, which makes him a great assist threat adding to his overall value. Β Brentford also has great defensive fixtures with the 6th easiest defensive schedule over the first 8 GWs Henry does not face Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, or Brighton in the first nine GWs. Brentford also rotates perfectly with cheap defenders from Aston Villa like Pau Torres and Newcastle with Sven Botman. With a decent attacking threat playing for the defense that finished 6th in xGC last season, Henry is the perfect defender to enable to high-priced assets.

Joachim Andersen CRY Β£4.5

The Crystal Palace defensive options have not been spoken about enough this season due to them being labeled as β€œboring options.” Andersen is still a good option going into this season as he is nailed on, has an attacking threat, and the schedule is decent to begin the season. Andersen is a threat from set pieces with a 0.09 xGI per 90 minutes and had the 3rd best xG amongst Β£4.5 defenders. Andersen also has the 5th easiest schedule for defenders for the first 8 GWs of the season. Not the sexiest pick, but when you need to fit in multiple premiums, then a nailed-on defender like Andersen might be the answer.

James Tarkowski EVE Β£4.5

I know, I know, nobody wants an Everton defender due to how poor they were defensively last season. Nonetheless, Tarkowski offers the attacking threat and has the fixtures to make his selection worthwhile at that cheap price tag. Tarkowski has a decent attacking threat with a 0.17 xGI, as he is the main target from the Sean Dyche Set Piece specials. Lastly, Tarkowski has the 2nd easiest defensive schedule for the first 8 GWs giving him a decent floor. A prime candidate for one of those 15-pointers, Tarkowski could be the budget defender that will allow you to fit in 2 or 3 premiums into your squad.

FPL Budget Enablers Midfielders (Β£5.5 or below)

Julio Enciso BHA Β£5.5

One of the late-season gems last season, Enciso is expected to take a bigger role within the Brighton squad as the departure of Mac Allister opens up the 10 role for Enciso. Enciso scored 4 goals and provided 3 assists in just 7 starts last season, showing just what he is capable of when given the opportunity. Enciso’s underlying stats were off the charts, with an xGI of 0.79 per 90 minutes in his limited appearances last season. Brighton has a great schedule to begin the season with matches against Luton, Wolves, West Ham, and Bournemouth within the first 6 GWs. Those managers that need that extra 1.0 in the bank can go for Enciso and use that extra money to fund other premium assets.

Andreas Pereira FUL Β£5.5

One of the heroes from last season, Andreas smashed his Β£4.5 price tag with 123 points thanks to his 4 goals and 10 assists. Pereira is on set pieces for Fulham and will be on penalties with the rumored departure of Mitrovic. Andreas also produced great underlying stats with an 11.42 xGI last season which ranked 2nd amongst all midfielders under Β£5.5. Fulham also has a decent schedule to start off the season with the 8th easiest attacker for the 8 GWs. Pereira is being overlooked this season, but for those managers trying to fit in those premiums, such as Salah, Haaland, Kane, and TAA, need a player like Pereira in their squad.

Dwight McneilΒ EVE Β£5.5

McNeil showed his explosiveness last season with a 2-goal 2 assist performance against Brighton.Β  McNeil is not the sexiest pick in the world, but he is nailed and on set pieces making him a good option at his price point. Β Since Dyche was appointed, McNeil thrived, scoring the most points, producing the most xGI, and the most expected points amongst any midfielder priced Β£5.5 or below. Lastly, Everton has great fixtures with the 2nd easiest attacking schedule over the first 8 GWs.Β  Managers looking for a nailed option with some decent upside need to look at McNeil as an option to enable budget in their squad.

Honorable Mention: Mathias Jensen BRE Β£5.5

Budget Enablers ForwardsΒ (Β£6.0 or below)Β

Yoane Wissa BRE Β£6.0

Toney’s suspension has opened up a ton of opportunities for other Brentford attackers, such as Yoane Wissa. Wissa is expected to take up a central role and increase in minutes while Toney remains suspended. Wissa did well last season in limited minutes with 11 attacking returns from an xGI of 6.73. Wissa’s fixtures are also good fixtures, with the 7th easiest attacking fixtures for the first 8 GWs. With many managers trying to fit in Salah alongside Haaland, then Wissa’s price point of 6.0 is necessary. With good underlying stats and an uptick in opportunity, Wissa could be just the budget enabler needed for those managers trying to fit in multiple premiums.

Wissa stats and Heatmaps from Fantasy Football Hub

Pre-Season Update: Wissa scored in Brentford’s second pre-season game vs Fulham. Watchout for Brentford’s Pre-season games(Link takes you to Brentford’s pre-season)

Evan Ferguson BHA Β£6.0

One of the most exciting young players in the Premier League, Evan Ferguson was a point-scoring machine when given the opportunity, with 8 attacking returns in 10 starts last season. Ferguson’s underlying stats were also great last season, although in a small sample size with a 0.44 xG per 90 minutes. Ferguson now has a great schedule to begin the season with the 9th easiest schedule for attackers over the first 8 GWs. Managers looking to fit in Salah will need a cheap forward to pair with Haaland, so a player with the high upside that Ferguson has fits that bill.

Ferguson stats and Heatmaps from Fantasy Football Hub

Another budget Brighton forward to have an eye on is Joao Pedro(Β£5.5). Pedro got a goal and an assist in Brighton’s first pre-season friendly vs Chelsea. He looked really good on the eye test. Watchout for Brighton’s pre-season games(Link takes you to Brighton’s pre-season stats) to confirm who is the nailed forward. With 3 good games to start the season, it might be a good move to go with Ferguson/Pedro if any of them is nailed.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin EVE Β£6.0

With only 10 attacking returns in the last two full seasons, it is very hard to trust the often-injured Dominic Calvert-Lewin. However, DCL does have the pedigree to outscore his Β£6.0 price tag, as shown by his 29 goals scored from the 2019-20 season to the 2020-21 season. DCL still showed decent underlying stats with a 0.38 xG per 90 minutes and will still be on penalties raising his value. DCL also has great fixtures with the 2nd easiest schedule for attackers over the next 8 GWs. I know the big caveat here is DCL’s ability to stay healthy, but with good fixtures and decent underlying stats, he is a good, budget enabler to fit in those pricey premium assets.

Honorable Mention: Carlos Vinicius FUL Β£5.0 (if Mitrovic leaves)
