FPL GW38 Scout Picks

FPL GW38 Scout Picks- Goalkeeper

FPL GW38 Scout Picks- Goalkeeper

Forest are hands down the worst attacking side in the league while on the road. They have scored only 10 goals from 18 away games this season- Worst in the league. They also have the worst npxG away this season. With all this, Forest are also confirmed to stay in Premier League which could see Cooper giving fringe players some minutes.

This is why Johnstone makes the cut in our FPL GW38 Scout Picks who has 3 clean sheets from 8 games since he became first choice.

FPL GW38 Scout Picks- Defenders

FPL GW38 Scout Picks- Defenders

Trent Alexander Arnold did blank in GW37, but it was the first time he has blanked since GW30 showing how good he has been- 6 assists and 3 clean sheets from the last 9 games. He has been excellent since the tactical tweak by Klopp which allows him to occupy midfield positions and play higher up the pitch. Since GW30 when he started playing a bit higher up the pitch, he’s the second-highest in the league for big chances created(8), 2nd highest for xA(3.72), and registered the most assists(6).

Everton need a win to confirm their Premier League status. They are up against a Bournemouth side who are on the beach losing their last 3 games scoring only one goal in the process. If Everton score a early goal, they would sit back fully and would look to close out the game. If it’s 0-0, you could well see Tarkowski playing as a center forward in the final minutes based on the game state. Either ways, it works out well for Tarkowski in most cases.

Matchup alert: Since the World Cup, Bournemouth have conceded 29 shots from set-pieces, 65 shots from headers- Both 2nd worst in the league. We all know where the Everton set-pieces are aimed towards and Tarkowski could reap rewards.

Defenders is completed by Rico Lewis who we feel will be at the right end of Pep Roulette. Walker has played 90 minutes in both the games in GW37- Might get a rest this week. Stones played 83 minutes in the 2nd game of DGW37 and was taken off due to an injury scare. Both Walker and Stones are key players for the 2 important Cup finals(FA Cup and UCL) and may not be risked in GW38. This pushes up Lewis’s expected minutes. Lewis at just 3.8 million can be a great enabler as well if you plan to make multiple moves to bring in your attackers.

FPL GW38 Scout Picks- Midfielders

FPL GW38 Scout Picks- Midfielders

Salah looks to be having an ordinary season by his lofty standards but he already has 234 points with 19 goals, 12 assists. He has also peaked over the last few games- 3 Double Digit hauls in the last 4 games. Since GW31, Salah tops all the underlying data among Midfielders- xG, Big Chances, Goals, Shots inside the box. He has also returned 68 points from these 7 games averaging close to 9 points/game.

Odegaard makes the cut ahead of the home game vs Wolves. With Martinelli ruled out and some injury “issues” with Saka, Trossard and Nelson as quoted by Arteta- Odegaard is the Arsenal midfielder to punt on. Arsenal perform really well when there is no pressure on them and they are expected to keep loads of possession against Wolves at home and this is the ideal situation for Odegaard to thrive on.

Matchup alert- Wolves have conceded 30 chances down the center over the last 6 games which is the highest among all the teams in the league. This should work well in Odegaard’s favour.

Odegaard has been quite in the last 2 games but has had a remarkable season with 15 goals, 8 assists and 209 FPL points with 9 Double Digit Hauls(Only Salah and Haaland have more). This shows that he is capable of a monster haul anytime.

Son has been registering good numbers over the last few games, in fact amongst mids since GW30 he has registered 4 goals in 8 games with an xG of 3.46 which is the 5th highest amongst mids. He has also had 7 big chances during the period which is also the 4th highest amongst the mids. Only Salah(11), Rashford(9) and Mitoma(8) have more big chances during the period!

Key Matchup:

Leeds also have conceded 22 chances from the right flank over the last 6 games which is the 5th highest among all teams. With this favorable matchup and Leeds possibly going all out attack to get a win(minimum required to stay in PL), they could leave spaces behind which should work out well for Son.

Maddison and Eze are owned by less than 10% FPL managers and could be excellent punts going into the final Gameweek. They have great underlying data and excellent matchups. Both of them are analyzed in detail in our FPL GW38 Differentials(<10% TSB) article. Do check it out!

Kane takes the armband ahead in our FPL GW38 Scout Picks. He has been consistent all season but been particularly impressive off late blanking only once since GW27- 10 goals, 2 assists, 84 points during this time averaging 7.63 points/game. No player has matched his FPL points during this time. He is one of the Differential yet safe Captain option for GW38. At minimum he can get 6-7 points but he if he goes big, he can get a 10-15 point haul.

Kane also has a particular liking to the final Gameweek of the season. He has 8 goals, 2 assists, 10 bonus, 58 points from his last five GW38 appearances over the years averaging 11.6 points/game.

In the reverse fixture against Leeds, Kane got a goal, assist for 11 points in the 4-3 win. Expect a similar scoreline this game with both teams defensively bad and both team requiring minimum a win to meet their final day ambitions.

Alvarez completes the Scout Selection. He is expected to get a start in GW38 with Pep likely to give rest to other players. His ability to play anywhere in the front four pushes up his expected minutes. Alvarez has 9 goals, 3 assists this season despite starting only 12 games. He averages 0.6 xGI, 0.92 Goal Involvement, 6.58 FPL Points per start which are extraordinary numbers. If Haaland does not start, Alvarez is expected to play as the striker which increases his goal threat.

No Haaland in our Scout Picks for the first time in ages. We do think he will not be risked ahead of the 2 important cup finals coming up. It is now or never to take these punts especially if you are chasing. Disclaimer alert: Go without Haaland only if you are willing to take those risks/get leaks that Haaland does not start.
