FPL GW28 Differential Picks to Consider Ahead of Deadline

Welcome to the FPL GW28 Differentials blog, the last one before an international break. It’s an exciting week for this blog considering that it’s a blank gameweek with only 7 fixtures, a lot of managers are looking at short terms options from the teams who have a game in GW28 and double in GW29. There’s been quite a few options in our consideration this week and in the end, we have fine-tuned it to five differentials and one ultra differential for FPL GW28. Without further ado, let’s look at the six options featured in this blog.

Top FPL GW28 Differential Picks (<10% ownership)

Kai Havertz vs Everton(H), £7.5m, TSB: 4.3%

Top FPL GW28 Differential Picks (<10% ownership) ~ Havertz

Over the last few weeks, Kai Havertz has quickly emerged as the number one Chelsea attacker ahead of Felix. The reasons being:

  • Havertz is a nailed asset and is a guaranteed starter, Felix meanwhile has an xMins risk and was subbed off at HT vs Leicester in GW27
  • Havertz is on penalties as confirmed by Potter
  • Havertz is in good form, goals in the last two games including a crucial goal vs Dortmund.
  • He has a good fixture in GW28(vs Everton(H)) and doubles in GW29. Note: He could blank in GW32 vs Man United if Man United beat Fulham this weekend.

Potter switched to a 3-4-3 vs Leeds and since then Chelsea have won all three of their games. The 3-4-3 game also favors Havertz and he has a great link-up with Chilwell and record signing Enzo who could play a bit higher up the pitch if Kante is back. More on Havertz and Chelsea’s attack on @SnakeFpl‘s Twitter Thread(Highly recommend reading it, give him a follow!)

In the last two games, Havertz is second amongst all players for xGI(2.1) with only Salah(2.4) recording a better xGI than him. Felix in the same period has an xGI of only 0.4!

Havertz in the last two games:

Goals: 1
xG: 1.08
Shots: 6
Shots inside the box: 4
Shots on Target: 3
Big Chances: 2
Big Chances created: 2
Key Passes: 3
xA: 1.0
xGI: 2.1
FPL Points: 11

At his price, he’s a great short-term option if you’re looking at FPL BGW28 + FPL DGW29!

Fun Fact: Havertz also loves a double gameweek, last season in FPL DGW26 Chelsea played Burnley & Norwich both away from home and he scored a total of 26 points from 3 goals and an assist.

Havertz vs Watkins Comparison

We discussed Havertz and Watkins in our FPL GW28 video this week with stats and heat maps. The video will play exactly from the comparison part of the video. Do give it a watch and If you like our content then Do consider subscribing to our channel, it would mean a lot to us:)

Ben Chilwell vs Leicester(A), £5.9m, TSB: 4.7%

Top FPL GW28 Differential Picks (<10% ownership) ~ Chilwell

Chilwell was in our differentials blog last week as well and he’s back once again this week because he’s really good and still owned by less than 5% of managers. He got a brilliant goal vs his former team Leicester in GW27 and has been benefiting from Potter’s switch to a 3-4-3. He’s got a brilliant goal-scoring and assist potential too along with decent CS prospects. In GW28, Chelsea have the second best CS odds with a 56% chance of a clean sheet vs Everton.

Chilwell(21) average position and heatmap vs Leicester via Sofascore

In the last two PL games since the switch in formation, Chilwell is second amongst Chelsea players for xGI(0.47) only behind Havertz and has had 3 shots inside the box along with a big chance. He has also made six touches in the box(2nd behind Havertz amongst Chelsea players) and has registered 15 penalty box entries(3rd amongst all defenders only behind Trippier and TAA), classic full-back characteristics.

Chilwell is also on corners duty which adds to his assist potential, he got an assist from a corner vs Leeds in GW26(Fofana header). All in all, he’s an excellent option to consider in your team for the upcoming weeks especially to replace a Brentford defender!

Alexander Isak vs Nottingham Forest(A), £6.6m, TSB: 1.6%

Top FPL GW28 Differential Picks (<10% ownership) ~ Isak

There has not been a great flow to Isak’s season due to injuries. Isak had a great game in GW27 vs Wolves and gave a good indication of how good he can be when fully fit. In GW27, Isak played 68 minutes and had 4 shots(3 shots inside the box), xG- 0.35, and got a goal and 2 bonus points as well. In the limited time, Isak has been on the pitch this season(532 minutes), He has a better goals-per-minute ratio when compared to Wilson.

Isak vs Wilson

  • Minutes per Goal– 133 vs 178
  • Goal Involvement for Newcastle when on the pitch– 80% vs 46%

When on the pitch, the Swedish international has been involved in 80 percent of Newcastle’s goals, which is a staggering number.

Key Matchup-

Over the last 6 matches, Forest have conceded 20 chances through the center which is the 7th highest among all teams during the same period.

It is to be noted that Isak may not play the full 90 minutes as suggested by Howe in his post-match press conference. But the comments on his fitness were mostly positive. He is still a good option considering how clinical he is. Wilson was also not fully fit(for GW27) and was suffering from illness recently which should work in Isak’s favor for more minutes. Newcastle are also one of 6 teams confirmed to not blank in GW28+GW32 and also Double in GW29.

Howe on Isak’s minutes

“He’s very, very fit. He’s got a little bit more to go to be a 90-minute fit for us but that’s because we demand so much from our players. That’s no slight on him at all.”

James Maddison vs Brentford (A), £8.1m, TSB: 6.1%

Top FPL GW28 Differential Picks (<10% ownership) ~ James Maddison

Leicester City are struggling and 16th in the table avoiding the relegation zone only on Goal Difference. Maddison is the talisman for them and would depend on him once again if they are to stay in Premier League. In the 19 appearances he has had this season, Maddison has 9 goals, 5 assists, and 101 FPL points averaging more than 5 points a game. He is also involved in 42% of Leicester’s goals when on the pitch.

Maddison has been unlucky not to return in the last 2 games despite excellent underlying numbers- 6 shots, 7 key passes, 3 big chances created, xGI- 1.80. He is surely due a return!

Maddison is not just a Differential Pick for GW28. He should be a solid pick even after GW28 considering the fixtures they have. Leicester City are also one of 6 teams confirmed to not blank in GW28+GW32 and also Double in GW29.

Leicester City fixtures from GW28-GW35

After GW28, Maddison literally faces the league’s 3 worst defenses(since the World Cup break) in the next 3 games.

Son Heung-Min vs Southampton(A), TSB: 6.7%

Truth to be told, Son is not in the best of form this season but is slowly getting back to the groove with a good display vs Forest in GW28- 4 shots, 5 key passes, 0.6 xGI, 1 goal. He is a good one-week punt if you are willing to punt on as we know how explosive he can be on his day.

Note: Do consider bringing in Son only if you are considering a one-week punt before Wildcarding in GW29 or using the Free Hit chip in GW28.

Historically, Son has a terrific record vs Southampton. In fact, Southampton are one of his favorite opponents against whom he has 12 goals, 6 assists from 16 games, and blanking only twice from the 14 starts he had vs Saints.

FPL GW28 Ultra Differential Pick (<1% ownership)

Dango Ouattara vs Aston Villa (A), £5.0m, TSB: 0.0%

FPL GW28 Ultra Differential Pick ~ Dango Ouattara

We have picked soo many ultra-differential picks in the past but very rarely do we have someone with 0.0% ownership, this time we have one from Bournemouth!

That’s right, Dango Ouattara is our ultra-differential pick for BGW28. The Cherries attacker has produced some impressive performances for Bournemouth since moving there during the Jan transfer window.

Dango Ouattara in the last two games:

Goals: 0
xG: 0.74
Shots: 2
Shots inside the box: 2
Shots on Target: 1
Big Chances: 2
Big Chances created: 1
Key Passes: 1
xA: 0.46
Assists: 1
xGI: 1.2
FPL Points: 8

In the last two games, he’s 2nd amongst all Bournemouth players for xGI(1.2) only behind Billing(1.4), great numbers considering they played Arsenal and Liverpool in the two games. Solanke during the same period has only an xGI of 0.6!

Ouattara was unlucky not to score against Liverpool having rounded up Alisson but he could only hit the side netting. If he continues this form he should easily get his first PL goal soon and add to his two assists on his tally already!

Matchup alert:

Aston Villa concede more chances through their left flank(Ouattara’s flank). Over the last six matches, Aston Villa are ranked 4th worst for most chances conceded through their left flank(24) among all teams in Premier League. This is also higher than their chances conceded through the middle(19) and right(18) for the same period.
