Mathematically speaking, the significance of the number 29 is immense. 29 is a Lucas prime, a Pell prime, an Eisenstein prime, a Markov number as well as a tetranacci number. For non-geeks also, 29 holds a special fond memory as many of us played the common card game “29” in our college days. And of course, who can forget the birthday of Superman is on 29th February.
But for FPL players, the importance of 29 is the highest as DGW 29 is set to be the biggest DGW of this season. 12 teams have two fixtures in this game week, while some of the non-doubling teams have mouth-watering fixtures as well. Almost everyone will play a chip – Bench Boost being the most common, though there will be plenty of takers for the Triple Captain and Free Hit chips as well. In a nutshell, as much as I hate to say it, but this might really be the week that will define the season for most of us.
In this article, I will cover players to target from the teams which are doubling this GW. PS – this means some of the juicy players like Kane, and Saka will not be spoken about. Please note, they can be tremendous picks as well.
FPL Double Gameweek 29 Key Players To Target Team Wise
So how does the GW 29 fare in terms of FDR? This is how Double Gameweek 29 looks, in order of perceived difficulty.
Leicester City
On paper, Leicester City has the best fixture for FPL DGW29. So this might just be the week where the fortunes turn for Brendan Rodgers and his boys.
James Maddison (£8.2m)
If Leicester City has to survive, then Maddison will need to have a blast in the last few game weeks. He is Leicester’s talisman – nailed, on free kicks and on corners. His underlying stats are encouraging.
Last 6 GWs – Maddison Rank | Overall | Within LCFC |
Big Chances Created | 2nd | 1st |
Chances Created | 5th | 1st |
Key Passes | 4th | 1st |
Cons – Leicester City is in between a wretched run of form having picked up just 1 point in its last 5 matches with a combined score line of 2-9. The chances are there for the taking (which makes Maddison appealing) as evident by the fact that LCFC rank 5th in terms of NPXG. But they have been profligate in front of the goal. Daka and Iheanacho are not at Vardy’s level and the wheels are slowly coming off Leicester’s campaign.
Personal Opinion: Avoid Maddison though he is omnipresent in most of the template and bus teams. There are better MFs for this GW

Brighton & Hove Albion F.C.
Roberto De Zerbi’s men are flying high with 7 points out of a possible 9 in their last 3 games. They are 7th placed in the table. They have 2 confirmed DGWs (29 and 34) and mostly 2 more (36 and 37). This makes their assets immensely attractive from an FPL perspective. So it goes without saying that 3 BHA assets are a must-have. The trick lies in selecting which 3 as the options are aplenty.
Last 3 GWs | FPL Points |
Mitoma | 25 |
Mac Allister | 24 |
Veltman | 20 |
Steele | 17 |
Estupiñán | 15 |
Dunk | 14 |
March | 14 |
Kaoru Mitoma (£5.5m)
If writing his university thesis on dribbling is not cool enough, scoring an astonishing 86 points in the last 13 GWs surely is. No other player at that price point or lower has scored more points during this period.
Cons – Mitoma has been consistently overperforming his underlying stats. Even in the above-mentioned period, Mitoma is not in the Top 15 for any of the underlying metrics like XG, XA, XGI, Big Chances Created, Chances Created, Key Passes, Shots, Shots Inside the Box. But then again, we have seen Lingard in the 20/21 season punishing managers relying on underlying stats.
Alexis Mac Allister (£5.5m)
The World Cup winner has been in scintillating form of late. He is nailed, on penalties and forms a lethal trio with Mitoma and March. In the last 3 GWs, he ranks 4th in terms of FPL points, 2nd in terms of goals scored, 2nd in terms of XGI, 4th in terms of shots, 5th in terms of shots in the box implying his underlying numbers are equally good.
Cons – Mac Allister’s dependency on penalties is evident as when we look at metrics like XG non-penalty or XG open play, the Argentine slips out of the Top 10
Solly March (£5.1m)
Brighton’s highest FPL scorer this season, March was unlucky not to get more points in DGW 27 as one of his goals was controversially awarded as a Leeds own goal. March costs £0.4m less than his more popular teammate Mitoma but has scored more points and more goals than Mitoma since the restart post World Cup. Even at an overall level, March stands tall
Since World Cup – March Rank | Overall |
FPL Points | 7th |
Goals Scored | 6th |
Big Chances Created | 4th |
XA | 7th |
Cons – Mac Allister’s return in GW 21 has hampered March’s returns to a little extent
Per Match Stats for March | GW 17-20 | GW 21-27 |
FPL Points | 11.0 | 4.4 |
Mins per FPL Point | 7.4 | 19.4 |
XG | 0.3 | 0.2 |
Mins per XG | 269.4 | 344.0 |
XA | 0.3 | 0.2 |
Mins per XA | 293.7 | 358.3 |
XGI | 0.6 | 0.5 |
Mins per XGI | 140.5 | 175.5 |
And the reason for the same is evident in the slightly subdued role he is playing as a playmaker, taking on a little more defensive duty
Per Match Stats for March | GW 17-20 | GW 21-27 |
Total Touches | 44.8 | 61.6 |
Mins per touch | 1.8 | 1.4 |
Total passes | 27 | 38.9 |
Total passes received | 31.2 | 39.3 |
Mins per pass received | 2.6 | 2.2 |
Total Dribbling | 2.5 | 4.4 |
Total Take Ons | 2.5 | 4.1 |
Crossing | 3.0 | 6.7 |
Through Balls | 0.0 | 0.3 |
Tackles | 2.2 | 2.6 |
Jason Steele (£3.9m)
A £3.9m GK of a team which has kept 2 clean sheets in the last 2 home matches is a steele (pun intended). Brighton faces Brentford at home while their away fixture is against Bournemouth which has the least XG of all teams.
Cons – Steele blocks one of the 3 spots of the in-demand BHA players. There are other GKs that can produce similar returns. Not to forget the rotation risk with Sanchez.

Pervis Estupiñán (£4.8m), Lewis Dunk (£4.7m) & Joël Veltman (£4.6m)
Estupiñán is the most exciting of the trio. He has blanked only once in the last 8 games. In fact, in that period he is also the highest-scoring FPL defender.
Dunk on the other hand is more nailed. Among BHA defenders, he has played the most mins and has the highest BPS and the joint highest no of clean sheets.
Veltman is the highest-scoring BHA defender this season in terms of FPL points, goals, and clean sheets (joint highest). He is not a dull boring defender either as is evident from the fact that in terms of BPS or bonus points, he is 2nd amongst BHA defenders.
Cons – Estupiñán will play a friendly against Australia and then fly for 23+ hours before the first of the two games in FPL DGW29, which puts him in some sort of doubt.
Dunk’s heatmap this season shows why he is not the most attractive defender to have. His only threat to score points on the opposition’s half is from corners
Veltman is not as involved in attacks as his Ecuadorian colleague
GW 17-27 | Veltman | Estupiñán |
Total Touches | 689 | 895 |
Touches in Opp Half | 315 | 466 |
Touches in the Final 3rd | 132 | 240 |
Total Passes Received | 434 | 590 |
Passes Received in Opp Half | 204 | 321 |
Passes Received in the Final 3rd | 81 | 159 |
Penalty Area Touches | 9 | 23 |
Goal Attempts | 5 | 8 |
Mins per attempt | 154.8 | 118 |
Goal Involvement | 11 | 14 |
BPS Total | 173 | 247 |
Personal Opinion: Choose 2 of the 3 Ms in midfield along with Estupiñán or Veltman
West Ham
Two home games against teams that have kept a combined two clean sheets in their last 10 matches make a certain Algerian in the Hammers’ squad exciting
Saïd Benrahma (£5.5m)
Benrahma scored 18 points courtesy of 1 goal and 2 assists in his last two home games for the club (GW 25 and GW 27). He is also on penalties
Cons – Benrahma played only 18 mins in GW 24 and was hauled off at halftime in GW 26, both albeit in away games. Not to forget the fact that West Ham are 18th in the table, just 1 point off last-placed Southampton. They have scored just 6 points in their last 6 games. They are also the 3rd lowest-scoring team in the league.
Personal Opinion: Avoid Benrahma
Newcastle
Not so long ago, Newcastle’s assets, especially the defenders, were hot properties. That entice has subsided a bit courtesy of the absence of a clean sheet in their last 6 matches. Hence, it comes as no surprise that the name from the Toons who find a mention here is not Trippier (who was once projected to break Andy Robertson’s FPL points tally as a defender) but a certain FWD
Alexander Isak (£6.7m)
Isak has scored 20 points in the last two games. He is nailed, on penalties and a bonus monster having racked up 5 bonus points in these two matches. His form has made him the most transferred in FWD (second most transferred in after Mitoma). I won’t be surprised if he rewards his new owners against a Casemiro-less Utd and relegation-battling West Ham
Cons – Man Utd has kept 3 clean sheets in their last 4 matches and the absence of Casemiro might not have as big an impact as initially thought. Casemiro’s last 4 starts have not resulted in clean sheets. On the other hand, 2 of the last 3 matches he has missed due to suspension have ended up as clean sheets. West Ham also has been surprisingly tight in home games having conceded just 2 in the last 4 home games.
Personal Opinion: Worth a punt
Chelsea
There’s some excitement around Chelsea assets after The Blues picked up 7 points in their last 3 games. Potter might have finally found the magic wand…or has he? Two homes games against teams who are not in the Top 5 sounds interesting on paper at least
Ben Chilwell (£6.0m)
19 points in his last 3 games and the FPL managers are all excited about Chilwell again. But the bigger stat is he has started 5 league games in a row for the first time this season. We all know how explosive Chilwell can be on his day. Fun fact: Chelsea kept clean sheets in both the reverse fixtures.
Cons – Chelsea has kept only 1 clean sheet in the last 6 games. On the other hand, Aston Villa has scored in every game since GW 15. Liverpool too was flying high with 13 points in 5 games before the shock defeat against Bournemouth. Salah operates on Chilwell’s flank and having scored 49 points in his last 6 games (along with an uncharacteristically missed penalty against the Cherries), Chilwell might not get the usual freedom to bombard forward.
Personal Opinion: Buy Chilwell
Kai Havertz (£7.6m)
With 2 goals, 5 bonus points, and 17 points in his last two games, the buzz around Kai Havertz is understandable. His underlying numbers are also great. He is ranked 1st in terms of shots, shots in the box, XG, and XGI during this period.
Cons – Liverpool had 5 consecutive clean sheets before the Bournemouth shocker. Even Aston Villa has 3 clean sheets in their last 4 games although those were against Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, and Everton
Note: Havertz left the Germany camp midway through the international break due to a flu infection.
Personal Opinion: Buy Havertz
Aston Villa
As mentioned before, Aston Villa has scored in every game since GW 15. They face two tricky fixtures on the road against Chelsea and Leicester City. But what makes these two fixtures interesting is both Chelsea and Leicester have kept a combined 3 clean sheets between them in their last 12 matches.
Ollie Watkins (£7.5m)
Watkins has amazingly blanked only 4 times during the above-mentioned run of 14 GWs. The Aston Villa talisman in on penalties as well making his appeal all the more exciting.
Cons – Watkins is non-explosive evident by just a single double-digit return even amidst the red-hot run mentioned above. He has picked up only 9 bonus points in these 14 GWs, something which you wouldn’t expect from a consistent FWD.
Personal Opinion: Worth a punt
Manchester United
The 3rd ranked team in the league was gaining some momentum with 10 points out of a possible 12, when catastrophe struck at Anfield. They were about to come shake it off as an off day when their midfield engine Casemiro got suspended for 4 matches when he picked up a red card against Southampton. As mentioned before, the absence of Casemiro might not have as big an impact as initially thought. Also, add to this the sublime way the Red Devils brushed off Real Betis in Europa and Fulham in the FA Cup.

Marcus Rashford (£7.3m)
The Mancunian lad is in a red hot form after scoring 27 goals and 9 assists in 44 matches for the club this season. FPL managers who played the TC on his in the last DGW in which Man Utd played were duly rewarded with a 20-point haul. Since the restart, he is unsurprisingly the highest-scoring FPL player.
Cons – There is an orange flag against Rashford for an injury that kept him out of the England international matches. Although insider news is he will be fine for the game against Newcastle
Personal Opinion: Must Have
Bruno Fernandes (£9.6m)
Given the kind of season Rashford is having, it is surprising to note that Bruno has the same number of bonus points as Rashford with a higher BPS. In fact in between GW 24-27 (since Man Utd had a BGW 28), Bruno is 1st in terms of big chances created, 2nd in terms of chances created, and 5th in terms of XA. He is the Utd captain and is on penalties, free kicks, and corners.
Cons – Bruno is a classical example of falling short of his own high standards. He took the league by storm in his debut (half) season and then again in the next season in 2020/21. The last season was a little quieter one by his standards, though 151 points is anything but shoddy.
Personal Opinion: Must Have
Luke Shaw (£5.2m)
Man Utd have two more DGWs and 5 fixtures against relegation contenders and Shaw can return at both ends in these fixtures. Since the restart, Luke Shaw is the highest-scoring FPL defender. He is also on corners thus increasing his appeal.
Cons – Without Casemiro’s presence, Shaw might find his attacking play cut down a little to provide the much-needed solidity to the back line.
Personal Opinion: Must Have
