Current World Cup Fantasy Chip Strategy
I have my ‘12th Man’ chip ACTIVE for Matchday 1. My strategy is to attack top teams having good fixtures in MD1. Mbappe has a great fixture in Matchday 1, and with him playing Denmark in Matchday 2, I can easily play the booster on him and take advantage of one good fixture.
Then I plan to use the Wildcard in Matchday 3 as there will be more information about which teams need the points and which have already gone through. Depending on results/injuries to key options, I can switch my Wildcard to Matchday 2, but it looks like Matchday 3 for now.
The advantage of an MD2 Wildcard is that I can avoid teams with tricky fixtures.
Tricky MD2 fixtures
- 🇪🇸 ESP v GER 🇩🇪
- 🇫🇷 FRA v DEN 🇩🇰
- 🇵🇹 POR v URU 🇺🇾
- 🇧🇷 BRA v SWI 🇨🇭
Coming to the Power Captain chip. The two options to play the chip are either in ‘Matchday 2′ or otherwise in the ‘Knockout’ games.
I am favouring the knockout games (QF/SF/F) right now as predicting hauls becomes more challenging at that point as games will be a lot tighter. The chances of getting it wrong manually are much higher, and the Power Captain can help then.
Watch out my detailed video on the different chips available and how to make the best use of them.
The fixtures I am targeting for my MD1 team!
Good World cup Fantasy MD1 fixtures
- 🇦🇷 ARG vs KSA 🇸🇦
- 🇵🇹 POR vs GHA 🇬🇭
- 🇳🇱 NED vs SEN 🇸🇳
- 🇩🇰 DEN vs TUN 🇹🇳
- 🇫🇷 FRA vs AUS 🇦🇺
- 🇧🇪 BEL vs CAN 🇨🇦

My Current WC Fantasy MD1 Team
I am playing a 3-4-3 right now with a few defender options on the bench and a budget midfielder.
Defence
- Goalkeepers are quite a decent bunch. Costa is my preferred Goalkeeper from Portugal. Remko Pasveer from the Netherlands ($4.5m) could also come in if he becomes nailed in the Dutch team.
- I am going for defenders who all have good fixtures. It allows me to target clean sheet potential, to begin with.
- All defenders are attacking in nature, and all of them have a substantial attacking upside.
- Right now, I have three defenders in my playing XI. They are Dumfries, Maehle and Trippier.
- All three players are nailed, and Dumfries + Trippier also have an excellent MD2 fixture.
- Maehle can be taken off in MD2, and Matty Cash is a possible replacement. I can even go for Gvardiol from Croatia, who is up against Canada.

Midfield
- It’s a midfield with one premium option in KDB, which is the best possible attacking option.
- KDB should start every game. He is the creative engine for Belgium and has massive potential against Canada in MD1.
- Bergwijn is here to stay. One of the best picks in midfield. Six goals in 9 matches for NED. He plays up front!
- I am not 100% sold on Olsen, as he might start only some games. Perisic is another one, but I am more confident with him. He is a sure-shot starter in the Croatian team.
- Zielinski is my differential pick in this draft, which can be a replacement for Olsen/Perisic. He is in decent form this season and could be a good option in a not so heavily scoring Poland team.
- Other options include Musiala from Germany, who is slightly higher priced, and I might have to arrange some additional funds to get him on my team.

Forwards
- We have a premium front three of Messi, Kane and Neymar Jr.
- All three are solid options. I am still considering getting Mbappe instead if there is some news about Messi starting from the bench.
- Another slightly cheaper set of options includes Martinez/Nunez. Depay can be an option, but he will likely miss MD1. For MD2, he is worth considering.

I am confident with most of my team. There are still 1-2 names that might change before the deadline, but the core looks pretty solid for WC Fantasy MD1.
Captaincy options for my team ahead of Matchday 1
Captaincy for MD1 looks very interesting. There are options like Messi and KDB, who have good fixtures. I can also go towards Neymar, as Brazil is up against Serbia. Still, the fixture is tricky, as the Serbian defence is quite decent.
If not, Mbappe is another pick that could be an excellent captaincy option. He looks good for a big attacking haul in Matchday 1 against Australia. I don’t have him, but I am considering getting him on the ‘12th Man’ booster chip.
If you are looking at differential options, forwards Martinez/Nunez are great players to go for as captains. You can even look at Dumfries as a captaincy option. It’s a bit risky as he is a defender, but the potential for a massive haul is there in MD1.
That will be all from my side! Let me know if you are confident with your Matchday 1 team. Also, who is your favourite captaincy option for this week?
All the best for Matchday 1, and I will see you all very soon!
